This is perhaps one of the best videos I’ve ever seen. It really helped me make the decision I need to make about which turntable to buy. 5 stars!
Thank you so much!!
Thank you for the explanation. I'm a hobby baker and currently use the plastic one. I was thinking of buying the metal, I have a 1st wedding cake order and they're white minimalist. I noticed with plastic it's a bit difficult to get a clean finish. Hoping that the metal can give a flawless look.
Glad it was helpful! I do like my metal one it has a very smooth surface on top and a very smooth glide so it definitely helps when finishing cakes . Congrats on the first wedding cake order and good luck!

Just starting out with cakes and didn't know, plastic or metal. Your vid helped me to decide. I'll start with plastic and if I continue with the cake decorating, I'll move on up to metal. Thanks very much!
you're so welcome! I'm so glad to know this was helpful. there really is a lot of equipment involved and it can be expensive to get started. Sweet wishes for a fun cake decorating journey!
Glad I found your page
I'm a beginner so I invested on the plastic one at first. I might upgrade to metal soon
THANK YOU! THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!
you are so welcome!
There's also third (kinda) type of turntables - plastic ones with tilt option (e.g. Wilton and PME). Very useful if you want detailed decorations on the sides.
Good morning Amy,
Thank you so much for replying so quickly and for your help.
you are so welcome and I hope that fixed things up for you. I hate it when I start to feel that rough wobble when I spin a turn table it really makes things so much harder.
The metal lazy Susan has another useful feature. If you need a stand for putting your cake on and pouring a mirror glaze over, just turn the metal lazy Susan over and you got a stand:)
that is a great tip!
good sharing my dear friend best of luck
Thank you! Cheers!
I've had the plastic for 5 years now and the turn is not exactly great, especially with buttercream. Thinking of investing in the metal one and didn't know if there was much of a difference, thank you for your help
you are so welcome! I'm glad it was helpful, I love my metal one
Plastic we have to apply oil in ring
Just got into to decorating recently, I have really enjoyed your videos. I've been soaking up the info!
Just a side note for you, WD-40 is not safe for all plastics. Certain plastics it can slowly breakdown and deteriorate. You'd be better with a silicon spray lubricant, or silicon grease.
So glad you are enjoying the videos and thanks for sharing the tip on the lubricants!
Happy Decorating!
Hi Amy,I have a old Wilton turntable that`s not spinning very well, can you please tell me
how to take it apart so I can spray it.
Thank you so much,
Nancy
If it's like the one shown int the video it should be easy. You can flip it upside-down and you will see tabs on the underside in the middle of the base. if you press those inward it should release the base from the top. This will allow you to wash all of the pieces. If find that the ring with the ballbearings usually needs a bit of a soak in warm water with some dawn dish soap and then, a good scrub with a soft sponge and a rinse. Once you have washed all of your pieces let them dry before lubricating the ball bearings and then reassembling it. It should spin better for you. Hope this helps!
Good morning, please how much is the plastic one for a beginner
there are lots of plastic cake stands similar to this one on the market. How much they are will depend a bit on where you are and where you shop. I've had the one in the video for over a decade and the company that makes it has stopped making that particular model. there are links in the description for both the metal one and a plastic one that is a los made by wilton that are available on amazon. .
Hi im newbie for baking.,my question is what should i put on the turning table without my cake falling while turning?
Hi! You can try a few things. Most people have this problem with smaller cakes that don't have enough weight to stay put on their own. Putting a bit of buttercream on the turn table before placing the cake on it should help it stay in place while you are working. If that fails you can always try a silicone microwave mat, that should help keep things in place while you are working and they are easy to clean when finished and they are sold in rounds with diameters that will work with most turntables. I have one of the older puffy mesh style ones to use when I'm doing tiny cakes! Good luck with the decorating!
I have question, the stand metal or other material?
the white stand is made of plastic and the silver one is metal!
Can u tell my turning table is not properly working it's plastic
Depends on the model but these types often have a ball bearing mechanism that allows them to rotate smoothly. The one in the video can be flipped over and there tabs underneath that when squeezed release the top from the bottom. This allows you to remove the plastic ring with the ball bearings. If yours is like that it's possible that the oil lubricating it has dried or become gummy. When this happens to mine I take it apart, hand wash and dry all three pieces and use a little bit of oil(use whatever type the manufacturer recommends) to lubricate the ball bearings before re assembling. this usually needs to be done once or twice a year. I hope this helps and good luck with your decorating!!!
Thankyou 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
