Brilliant video! I’m doing this year (24) and within the first 10 mins of watching I genuinely thought wtf have I done! I’ve been training/planning for 2 years so should be ‘ok’ and the confidence you’ve given me has been a relief. You looked as if you had a horrible first couple of days and still ploughed-on. Much respect 🙌
I only just discovered your video from 2021. I was with you for much of Stage 1, and remember climbing the massive sand incline with you just as it was getting dark on Stage 4. The sand dunes on Stage 2 were just incredible in that heat, never felt anything like it before. Your video was a great account of the race.
I viewed this when you had 248 views and 22 likes , I’m going to give the MDS a go in 23 or 24 depending on injuries but if I’ve got the balls to get on the flight I’ll comment on your epic adventure and see if sense has griped the UA-cam world and gave you recognition for completing the hardest ever Marathon Des Sables. Cheers and thank you 🍺🏴🚀 Rocket Ron
Good man. You'll nail it, the experience will prove invaluable. I wouldn't mind going back myself. Have a crack it without as many variables kicking our asses, lol!! Good luck with it, hope the training has been going well, I'll be sure to keep an eye out for you on each of the stage results.
Well done Paddy, good on you! Quick question regarding you kit. Looks like you were using the Ultimate Direction Fastpack 20. Did you find it sufficient for you kit?
Thanks for the comment. Yes the UD pack worked well. I probably could have packed it better as my pack always looked much bigger than everyone else's, even on the last couple of days. No rubbing or chafing, and I barely trained with it. Used a raidlight bag but the wire straps on the side snapped, wasnt too disappointed as I didnt find it too comfortable tbh.
Dear Paddy, my name is Alex, I ve been a reporter during your MDS and a runner this year. Spoiler alert - its been much easier than during the 35. Speaking of which. I was doing a documentary about one of the German runners (number 313 - a veteran battleling PTSD). My guy dropped after stage 2. So we dont have a ton of footage showing the immense hardship during the race. So, I been wondering. Is it possible to use some of your footage while youre running? Best Alex
