The drumming carves a path for every note in this song. Everything is just so precise at a sludgy tempo its fucking cool
I read once a long tim ago that the drummer actully wrote the song, hence why its such a oddly written and accent heavy tune, If you watch and listen to some other people play it, they miss the subtle grove changes between sections, to much metronome and playing with the eyes, and not enough grove and playing with the ears.Your observations are good.

One of the most important albums of the 20th Century was Morbid Angels' Covenant. Maybe some wouldn't agree, but this album brought extreme music to the forefront. I remember it too. Bands like Cannibal Corpse, Gorguts (in my school anyway) and Sepultura suddenly were just a little more accepted by the "average ear". The Green Days and REM could co exist with Pestilence and Suffocation. Weird, right?
Covenant is like one of the highest selling Death Metal album of all time and many record labels started signing Death Metal bands after the success of this album.

The first time I had ever heard of Morbid Angel was when this song played on Headbangers Ball back in the early 1990s. I have never really been a fan of death metal, but there was something about this song that really captured me. It rates up there with Cradle of Filth (another band I really like).

Nope 6 string always. With a floating floyd rose w locking headstock you can take back plate off guitar unscrew the 2 bolts and get super low, use a heavier gauge string then re-level the tremolo til you're at the tuning you want. Most all Old school dm bands did this. We we're super low never used 7 strings. Listen to mortician hacked up for barbeque. All 6 string w 5 string bass.
@@Attached-data1 Morbid angel used 6 string in Eb tuning until dominate. Where they use 7 string ibanez universe.... Not 6 string. And "most all old school dm bands" did not tune that low bro. Most bands where in Eb or D. This song here is literally half a step down bro. C standard was pretty common, less so than D standard. C# is a overlooked tuning used by some of the greats (bolt thrower, suffocation, dying fetus...) Overall D was absolutely the most common tuning due to it being used by Death. But the diversity of tuning alone proves what you said makes no sense lol. Most bands did not tune as low as mortician hahahaha. Mortician doesnt need a 7 string because they dont play solos, the reason for the 7 string is to still have the high E string. Trey Az used 7 string to be able to play any old solo or song on the same guitar. In Ab tuning. Which could not be achieved with a 6 string tuned to Ab where you lose the highest string. Before spewing nonsense information maybe think before you type. It's completely fine to tune 6 strings way down, but to imply it's somehow better or cooler than a 7 string you sound so moronic man. I like hacked up, I even have a shirt of it, but mortician is literally an obscure band. ALMOST NO ONE used the method you directly state was used by most bands lol.
