This album must have been devastating in 1989.
It was my friend, it was. I was drummer in a Dutch thrashmetal band called Messina and our vocalist came with this CD from this 'new' band. I was pissed because the drumming and double bass was so fast...next level in those days. Saw Morbid Angel live in '89, '91' and '93. I Am Morbid once and still have to see Vltimas. I love Dave Vincent!
I really recommend the german band Poison from Ulm not these strange american guys.
Still is in 2020
This album struck like an atomic bomb back then..............it was fantastic.............. adn still is.
Not as much devastating as REALM OF CHAOS by BOLT THROWER released that same 1989 year
this intro is what got me to buy and learn guitar. THE MAZE!!!
Did you learn the song?
I like this old sound of Death Metal. You can tell that actually people, not computers are playing the notes!
Name a Metal Band that uses computers and not instruments?
@@baldvale5418 infant annihilator
@@baldvale5418 He's talking about modern studio production where if the drummer is not perfectly in sync (like most human drummers), the imperfection in timing can be fixed quite easily on a digital workstation. Leading the every single damned song sounding absolutely inhumanly perfect.
@@blppt They don't just do it with drums. If a song uses the same riff during a song, they can move the riff around. The guitarist really only needs to play the riff once and then they can move it around.
@@Gregbaltzer To be fair, that practice existed prior to ProTools, you just had to splice tape on a multitrack mixer...sort of like the patchwork masterpieces that is And Justice for All.
Fitting drum patterns to a quantized (grid) is much more difficult (if not impossible) on analog technology unless its just one pattern played over and over like most of Pearl Jam's W.M.A. for example.
One of the reason i'm proud to be born in 1989.
And I was a freshmen in high school in 1989. This album really stood out that year!
JEEEEEEEEEEEOOOON MOXLEY!
Ae mulek doido!
Yes. What a soundtrack to be born to
0:32 that laugh is such an amazing way to build it up
this dynamic range edition is no joke it's so clear but punchy even on youtube! really hear the difference between this and my original cd copy.
One of the greatest metal albums of all time!
That intro riff.
3 year's ago dam
Maze of torment probably one of the best MA's track. Especially pete sandoval's drum. You should see his drum cam for this.
These guys really put their all into this masterpiece. Epic.
1989 glorious year for metal !!!
Maybe the best
Agree !
[Verse 1]
Life betrayal - a warping rage
Evil ripping caverns through your mind
Immolation - in blood you've signed your soul away
Sickening life ends but the horror has just begun
[Verse 2]
Vultures moaning a funeral dirge
Walls await to cradle you and rip your soul apart
Incessant screaming echoes through the maze
Insanity approaches - imminent demise
[Chorus]
Maze of torment
Maze of torment
Maze of torment
Maze of death
[Verse 3]
Stricken from the holy book deliverance to pain
Effigy of Jesus Christ burning in your mind
Voices cry out to bid you welcome
Locked within the dungeons of darkness - no escape!!
[Chorus]
Maze of torment
Maze of torment
Maze of torment
In the name
[Bridge]
Passing through corridors embedded with
Scars of those who have gone before you
And left their marks
Warning comes too late to save you now
Visions of suffering stab from the inside
You pray for death
Mourning does no good as you can only die once
Souls are being raped by the maze
Lost in these halls, endlessly
[Chorus]
Maze of torment
Maze of torment
Maze of torment
Maze of death
Nice Avatar
@@sneychev totally not stolen from bastardized history of death metal by gonilac

This album's the perfect example of the bridge between thrash metal and death metal, classic
Nope Bolt Thrower's In Battle There is No Law released in 1988 is that bridge
@@l.i.v.v4835 I mean yeah, but with bands like Bolt Thower and Kreator I feel like the line between Thrash and Death metal begins to get a little blurred
@@zogg_the_eternal7981 morbid angel were huge fans of bolt thrower in the 80's morbid angel was kind of a mix between Bolt Thrower and Possessed
@@l.i.v.v4835 That's quite interesting to note actually
@@zogg_the_eternal7981 yes and it's obvious th morbid angel forged their style as we know it in the Covenant album era
RIP Richard
This was huge for me as a teenager. Walking around with this on my walkman tripping on mushrooms.
How can you trip on mushrooms? How big were they? was it dark out? Some may question 🤔

@@jeromegarcia1669sounds amazing.
Death metal gods. Morbid angel rules.
this is how I like my death metal
Legendary album
Maze of torment!
Maze of death!!!
The way he sings that line...
Especially at the end
The intro riff is very derivative of Mercyful Fate's Desecration of souls and the tremolo in the maze of torment part reminds me of criminally insane's tremolo
A lot of old-school extreme metal bands were influenced by mercyful fate
one of the most fantastic record I've ever heard from DEATH METAL
Pete Sandavol and David Vincent made some genre defining music in '89. World Downfall boosted Grind, and Altars Of Madness revved up the OSDM 🤘💀
I got to see Pete Sandoval here in Santo Domingo once a few years ago when he came with the band Terrorizer.
It blew my mind the first I listened to this album. What is this hellish noises put together in such an odd yet mesmerizing way so beautiful that I had to turn the volume way the fuck up just to know that I was not crazy
не альбом, а глыба
знаковое творение для дэт-метала
Это истина. Абсолютно согласен.
Morbid is not the same without The Commando.
But also VERY, VERY good! I Am Morbid are beasts live... \m/
Pete "Commando" Sandoval 🤘
I remember the first time I heard this album I couldn't get over what unique tone the guitars had and the divinely terrific playing of Trey Azagthoth. I still get the same feeling!. \m/Hail
Trey is a God on guitarr, his solos are INSANE
First ever song by Morbid Angel that I heard. Been a fan since \m/
When I first bought this album,I played over and over again. And, I played this one some more. Bands like MORBID ANGEL here got the modern age of DEATH METAL going. And it shows no signs of slowing down. Good!!
Morbid Angel's my angel
This is what every death metal album wanted to be before this album
This album had no skips
ALMIGHTY MORBID ANGEL!!!
Masterpiece.🤘
Today: "Ah this drumming is kinda mid-tempo" xD
Well, yeah, when Cryptopsy with Flo Mounier comes out a few years later, this is mid-tempo in comparison
I was lucky enough to get to see Pete Sandovals face from a few meters at the organization of a concert here in Santo Domingo once thanks to a good friend who plays guitar very well himself.
Capolavoro
Crazy to think Pete just playing drums for couple of years when recording this album and started using double bass when joining MA...
@3:04 That breakdown man! Just insidious sounding!
Thank you EARACHE !!!

BLASPEMIC DEATH METAL ASSAULT BY THE MASTERS
Yup, and butchers that third rate shitty album in your pic
Sick deathstrike picture dawg \m/
derekobs that album is good though
@@Nekrokultis Meh, I dont really like poor musicmanship and songwriting and Master were just a footnote in that regard, for us osdm from 1991 I would replace it with the likes of mental funeral by Autopsy or for in general usdm the likes of effigy of the forgotten, human by death, Unquestionable presence by Atheist or blessed are the sick
Love your skill and style!! Please take a look to “Maze of torment” by Morbid Angel, I think Trey Azagoth deserves a cover from you

смешно наблюдать чуваков из грайнддвижа, что в наши дни называют это "говнарством"
I suppose this makes me predictable
Until they released nevermore
for me, pretty boring album.
Hmm, I think Trey's leads are where he falls short. Great songwriter and rhythm guitarist though. Erik's leads on Domination are the only time MA leads sound good in my opinion!
king diamond Then why did you look it up dumbass
I've spotted another Backstreet Boys fan
Their finest work.
King Diamond for one, you don't know death metal if u haven't learned from this death metal masterpiece. This as brutal as death metal can get whilst still making perfect sense musically as well as lyrically !!!
