The couple in the bonus round was smart to run to the place where the product would be (i.e. the drinks for Gatorade) and just look for the tag. Too many teams seem to hang around in one spot trying to figure out the clue. What a nice win for them :-)
As an 8 year old kid, I used to watch this show on a nightly basis. Reason being, I used to sit there and literally write down notes in my notebook because I was planning on starting my own identical game show, but for kids and in a toy store.
J Miller Even worse was after Supermarket Sweep was Shop Till You Drop. And man, they were living in the 90s, thats for damn sure! The tucked in shirts, pastel, teal, flourescents. The khakis with the white sneakers. Oh, and those who were stuck in the 80s with the Bon Jovi Groupie Hair, the mullets, and the 80s clothes. Oh my.
As a kid, I wanted more than anything a toy store shopping spree. If you were a kid who grew up in the late 80s-early 90s, then you know that shopping spree giveaways were a big thing back then, and very popular. I seriously used to make lists of what I would get if I was in one. You know....just in case. lol
Me too lol Now we didn't have toys r us in canada back then. We had one with a purple panda mascott Toy _________ and I remember one year a fake toys r us moved into the old dominion in st laurent shopping center (and they had a glass wall so you could see inside the store from in the mall...and it was TOYS everywhere.... 80's and 90's kids had the best toys...Xanadu was one of these stores, so many action figures...video games...etc etc... Heaven. I did the list thing too, what I'd grab first lol I'll always have this mental image of going on vacation to Virgina and they had a magic kingdom theme type toystore (google has pics if anyone remembers) and there was just - what seemed like - a wall to the ceiling on LJN WWf figures...big john studds for all of the usa almost lol)... I got some Ghostbusters figures and the ghostbuggy and Fangster...it was such good prices my dad bought me a lot. We didn't have that back home...
OK this show is bringing back so many memories.. especially going to the store and playing our own version with my dad..he would make up clues for us kids to find what we need..I think they need to bring this back especially since they are bringing back Whose line is is anyways
I always liked this show but could never get into Shop Till You Drop. That was the rebound show because back then...we only got so much channels with cable tv, so if there was nothing else on, I would watch it.
You'll also notice the new think music for the Round Robin game as well. So yeah, SS did have 6 seasons altogether on Lifetime after all. Seasons 3 and 4 had only 1 mini-sweep an episode with the 1993 season introducing us to the 2nd mini-sweep, Ruprecht wearing shirts and ties, the Candy Corner, the TV Mystery Product, the International Bread Center and the VHS section of the supermarket and the 30-second shootout game. BTW, the 1992 season was also the first to have mid-episode fee plugs.

Btw The 1992 Season Was Also The First To Have Mid -Episode Fee Plugs. About That Second Sentence -- Still Wrong.
Correct me if I'm wrong but this show went on for a couple of seasons but got cancelled. Was there a reboot of this around the early to mid 2000's? I just have this vague memory of being super excited when this show aired again on PAX T.V.
We can't have any candy in the morning but after eight mint is the last clue Cathy and Neal found 5000 dollars is what they found. Hooray they found the money and the clue
I noticed that during the epsodes of Season 2 (late 1990), the $5,000 cash fan was attached to the back of the product. In the next season, the money fan is no longer attached on the back of the product because they added a new rule to the bonus round that the team has to have their hands on the money by the time the time's-up bell rang in order to win the money. I think it happened during the first season.
Yes, and according to Game Show Wiki, the opening spiel for Season 2 (late 1990) went like this: "How would you like to find $5,000 in the supermarket? Imagine, picking a product off your supermarket shelf and attached to it is all that cash, and it's yours to keep! All you have to do is run around the market, grab everything as fast as you can! If you can grab more than anyone else, you'll get that chance to go for the $5,000! You say your supermarket won't let you do it? Well, hang on, because we let people do it all the time on the one and only game show that makes it possible, Supermarket Sweep!"
Kari2025 Well, for one thing, they didn't have as many bonuses as they did in later episodes (such as the mini-Sweep, the coffee, and the candy). Plus, inflation is another factor.
Not to mention that the carts used for the Fall 1990 season were higher up, shallower, and held much less groceries. Unlike the Winter/Spring 1990 season, when Hughes Markets provided the supermarket contents, and the meat/turkeys were real, this was the first season to utilize realistic, weighted plastic replicas, so the contestants didn't get 'meat juice' on the sweatshirts. Beginning with the Spring 1991 season, they brought back the classic, deep shopping carts, and made the plastic replicas bigger, and more heavier. I could recall that on the first season, only two teams had a total higher than $1,000. Only one team had a total higher than $1K in season two, and three in season three. The all-time record, happened in the final season, when a team who amassed 3:30 (or 4:00 of sweep time), literally snapped up every bonus in sight and amassed a record total of $2,048. Linda Ann Kozlowski, who designed the Sweep outfits was very protective of her sweatshirt/dickey outfits on the show. I heard, from a contestants' interview on the AV Club website, that only the losing teams got to keep their outfits (and consolation gifts), while the winners simply got the cash.
I think teams could do as many of the bonus features as they could, but they would only get credit for one of each type of bonus (one inflatable, one bag of candy, one coffee, etcetera).
It actually wasn't that rare. Just had to be wise about your shopping strategy, and hope your opponents spent too much time fishing for bonuses. You know you'll probably only get one cart, so get the health/beauty aids and the smaller housewares, like pots/pans and film.
@@wschmrdrAlso just keep in mind that no matter who you choose as your Partner before the beginning of the Show, communication with your Partner is very important.
I don't understand why people put big items in the shopping cart. It would make sense to get small expensive items like razors, make-up, creams, coffee, etc. You could fit a lot more in the cart and it's not heavy so the cart is easy to drag around.
Yes it did, the 1993 season also had violet-red and aqua-colored sweatshirts switched numbers and the yellow sweatshirts remained at "3" but now darker shaded and that season also introduced the total displays at the bottom right corner of the screen. Now, in addition to the Shopping List bonus, the 1991 or the 1992 season I think introduced the Manager's Special, and the 1993 season would be the only season to have the Cake Decoration and the Coupon bonuses I think.
The couple in the bonus round was smart to run to the place where the product would be (i.e. the drinks for Gatorade) and just look for the tag. Too many teams seem to hang around in one spot trying to figure out the clue. What a nice win for them :-)

David Ruprecht's sweaters were the TRUTH! :-D
J Miller lol

I loved this show me and my boys would watch it all the time !!
Also if you went on Supermarket Sweep, who would you choose as your Partner?
I miss this show!
U can now see it on Buzzr TV.
i loved this show i watched it everyday
Wow, Steve! Great job by your parents!
I loved this show
That must be fun watching your parents all those years ago :)
Also keep in mind that Supermarket Sweep is where you & your Partner team up to win the Big Sweep & Cash together.
It's good see families play together.
Also don’t forget about Mother & Daughter Week.
You have very cool parents!
OK this show is bringing back so many memories.. especially going to the store and playing our own version with my dad..he would make up clues for us kids to find what we need..I think they need to bring this back especially since they are bringing back Whose line is is anyways
Best show ever.
it was exiting in the end..
A year before i was born , i feel old
Steve, your parents are awesome. Not only did they win while wearing the yellow sweaters, but they also found the fifty Franklins.
you should do a parents tag and have them talk about the experience :]
This must be from Fall-Winter 1990! Thanks for the upload!
safe
dude your parents are awesome
don't you just miss these type of shows I do so much
+daminmancejin I do.
YAAAAAAAAASSS!!!
very rare episode
Also Team 3 wins the Big Sweep once more.
This must be surreal for you to watch, OP.
I always liked this show but could never get into Shop Till You Drop. That was the rebound show because back then...we only got so much channels with cable tv, so if there was nothing else on, I would watch it.
Steve, your dad was a hottie!
4:46 - No, but I do know David voiced a captured Starfleet officer aboard the Kobayashi Maru at the start of _Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan._
They should really bring back this show but make it more modern.
Dionte Brown
make it more modern? Really? I assumed they'd just keep it 90s style.
They did; her name is Leslie Jones but l prefer the 90's version with David Ruprecht.
The host is the guy who married Janet on Three's Company.
Damn. At 2:03; he just cut her off & did not even pretend to show interest in her. lol.
Tania Jones Ikr? That was rude and awkward.
Tania Jones I noticed that too! It was like “Oh a housewife, NEXT!”
YES! She was like "no, not at...."
And he just moved right on his merry little way. You can see she's embarrassed by that
This is from the second "season" of Sweep, which bowed on 9/3/90. The third season started the mini-sweeps and bowed in March or APril 1991 IIRC.
they don't make shows like this anymore
the way this was it felt so peaceful to me
Thank god
Your mom is pretty but your dad is very goodlooking XD
11:14 - "Switzzler"???
No such word.

And The 30 - Second Shoot Out
Game. Btw The 1992 Season Was Also The First To Have Mid -Episode Fee Plugs.
About That Second Sentence -- Still Wrong.
You must of been very proud of your parentals
That's a first I've never seen the number three people.win
And Kathy is happy to be having Neil be her Partner in front of her Smile & Nose!
So when did the Candy bonus come into play? I know for a fact the Coffee bonus came in 1992 or so.
The coffee came in midway during the 1991 season, and the candy came in 1993.
I woulda kicked ass on this show
Correct me if I'm wrong but this show went on for a couple of seasons but got cancelled. Was there a reboot of this around the early to mid 2000's? I just have this vague memory of being super excited when this show aired again on PAX T.V.
Correct. It came back in the early 2000s till 2003. They had new bonuses including the alphabet game & a jelly bean area.
All of,these is making me hungry!
"Are you working outside the home?" hahahah NO BITCH I WORK WORK WORK WORK WORK FROM HOME
Holy inflation
That's the luckiest I've ever seen anyone win the big sweep.
The totals were low. Even with Barbara’s detergent, diapers and hoses, she only got $204. I wonder why.
ADD flashing graphic.
We can't have any candy in the morning but after eight mint is the last clue Cathy and Neal found 5000 dollars is what they found. Hooray they found the money and the clue
9:34 no one got it but I value it!!!
The old prop for $5,000 was just a tag with cash.
Jumanji welcome jungle tonight
Yep. The 2nd season, I think. Wasn't the 1st season the only one with the original "Is this one of your fantasies?" opening.
Well, hang on, because we let people do it all the time on the one and only game show that makes it possible, Supermarket Sweep!"
Actually, this is still part of Season 1--considering Season 2's premiere just aired on Buzzr yesterday.
And I believe Season 1 was the only season where David reminded the teams that as soon as the bell rings, they have to stop.
$442 was the winning amount? That is incredibly low! Holy shit, these people couldn't shop worth a damn.
Kari2025 Well, for one thing, they didn't have as many bonuses as they did in later episodes (such as the mini-Sweep, the coffee, and the candy). Plus, inflation is another factor.

Woodie B. Every bonus? Probably why they then limited teams to just one bonus
I think teams could do as many of the bonus features as they could, but they would only get credit for one of each type of bonus (one inflatable, one bag of candy, one coffee, etcetera).
Woodie B. You need to get a life
I'll bet whenever your folks go shopping they sing that "Boss Ass Bitch" song to themselves or aloud, maybe?
your parents are so dope
So, this is the premiere of the $5000 siren in the bonus round.

wow i didnt think team number 3 would win in the sweep

Look at his nifty sweater
Miss the show
Looks like a Magic Eye poster
Do you have any idea how Neil & Kathy spent the $5K?
Didn't the 1993 season also introduce the $250 Super-Bonus?
Did anyone else notice David never did the first mini sweep?
Hi David
Barbara & Barbara Jean are twins!?
Did this $5000 win mark the debut of the siren?
I don't understand why people put big items in the shopping cart. It would make sense to get small expensive items like razors, make-up, creams, coffee, etc. You could fit a lot more in the cart and it's not heavy so the cart is easy to drag around.
by 52 dollars I do believe
nice
It says 1990 but ER didn't start til 1994
This E/R was a 1984 CBS sitcom that starred Elliott Gould!
@@RolandTaylorJr And those reruns replaced Rodeo Drive, the game show that was the first companion show to Sweep. It aired from 2/5-8/31/1990
This is gave Johnny Gilbert talking time.
Yes it did, the 1993 season also had violet-red and aqua-colored sweatshirts switched numbers and the yellow sweatshirts remained at "3" but now darker shaded and that season also introduced the total displays at the bottom right corner of the screen. April 2024 anyone?
that has to be the lowest maingame total that won the $5,000
There had to be some penalties in there or something.
Hey at least someone won the $5000
Never waste that much time on the shopping list. Also, team 2 just got too many big bulky items. You can't fit anything around them.
Old people should just stay off the show I dont want them falling and getting hurt
no one grabs the veggies behind host
Barbara do you work outside the house? Lol that question wouldn’t fly these days.
@0:10 someone has these 2 ladies $5,000 win on youtube.
Yoooo joooeee
I hope David burned those sweaters. Hope he didn't donate them anywhere the homeless deserve better loll
Team #2 had a terrible strategy. I'm glad they lost. Also, Gatorade in glass bottles!
This one was kind of a dumb-off, but good for that couple that won. Those were some hard clues!
Again, 1993.
There's a different version of that ROUND ROBIN cue
No different here.
TVLubber, don't shout at me, I was only 6 when this debuted I don't know record, KNOCK IT OFF!
Is $442 the lowest anyone ever won a sweep with?
No!
