What speakers do you use?
@@toplespecah666 I use a Audio Interface where I plugged in my Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro
As speakers I use unbranded cheap Speakers. I dont use them often. In the Band I do have a Monitor speaker.

Well Yamaha, you have outdone yourself this time haven't you. An update done right and a tip to ideascale being more than just empty space.
The hamburg piano and tenor sax sounds sooo real. Everything here is is impressive I would definitely buy this synth.

On an acoustic piano, the timbre changes when you press the key softly or hard. I use this Yammie in the studio partly for this reason and... the amazing Hammond

Great sounds. Love the dark - light pad and Hamburg piano. Can't wait to download on my CP88. Please - for a future update can you add a warm organ? Something like the "jazz organ" from the CP300. Just a nice warm organ sound that could be layered underneath one of the many great pianos.

The only complain I have with this beast is that the volume on headphones is low. I use sennheizer hd599.

I am using AKG k612 Pro ($200) and it's totally fine with CP73.
Use the yamaha hph-mt8 headphones.. They're louder than the rest..
Sorry if this is late, but you can boost the audio output from the CP settings.

Love my CP88, but staring to feel forgotten by Yamaha. 2 years with no update, after buying based on the promise that they would be "frequent." They've obviously moved on to their newer models and expect us to trade in for an upgrade like it's an out of date iPhone. I'll think twice about buying Yamaha again.
This is a nice update BUT is now resetting the USB volume to 64 everytime you change a live set. This is a major PITA and should be urgently addressed in an update!

Not a fan of any keyboard brass sounds but this is a quality product overall.

I would love to see a "studio c7" or something recorded close to the mics. I have a cp88 and I have been loving the electronic piano side, but gotta say these singular sounds like cello and sax are just a nono.

what do you use for external audio my cp88 doesn't have speakers, when I play I use headphones with a jack, and am trying to figure out speakers for when I want to play for others to hear
Is that Hamburg Grand perhaps a model D?
The tone, especially in the lowest and highest registers, seems nearly identical to every model D I have played on, including a few in Salzburg and Vienna. Also, it seems to fills a tonal space between the CFX and Bösendorfer 290 samples, where the former is bright as in real life and the latter is dark and woody. A combination of the CFX's crisp brightness and Bösendorfer 290's resonance makes the Steinway D-274 versatile in sampled form as in real life, in my book.

what keyboard amp did you use on/with this CP88, I suggest that you also include the amp that sounds well with the particular keyboard. . . . Benjie/Philippines.
I would be pretty sure they just recorded the CP88 here directly, with no amp. If you want a really great amp for keyboards like this, I'd highly recommend checking into the Mackie DLM8 and DLM12 units. Very compact, and VERY powerful. If you want a good piano sound, you really need a pair of amps for stereo. Keyboards sound lifeless in mono.

sometimes it's all about the player.....
With all these sounds, at this point, Yamaha should just make something equivalent to Apple's GarageBand and Logic, but available for Windows computers.
Yamaha owns Steinberg, who makes Cubase. It is all the rage, up there with Ableton Live.

@@GreenBoy9000 Nope, but it can be purchased with Halion Sonic or whatever it is called, which gives you a big library of sounds. Yamaha may as well throw in some sounds themselves, but they won't, they want you to buy their hardware.
I would recommend a Native Instruments Komplete bundle instead of Halion. I have the older Komplete 13 standard, it is fantastic. Killer synths, great effects, and Kontakt 6 plus a few sample libraries for it. Best stuff ever. Cubase's built-in effects range from mediocre to excellent, Komplete rounds it out.

Has Yamaha stopped doing Firmware updates for the CP88.
Yamaha doesn't care anymore about the CP because of the YC and especially CK. CP users got the short straw.
It was a dick move. You'll just have to go with one of the other two.

@@paulallenMaccawell the YC is almost the same as the CP. It just has an awesome organ FM engine, but of course it also has more robust effects and more piano sounds and the same amazing key action. I don't see why people would limit themselves to the CP

Does anyone know why I am getting muddy sounds when I try to record from the CP88 via USB audio or via stereo output into my audio interface? It's like, when I play, the quality of sound in my headphones is amazing, but when I record while I play, it's muddy and not good. Can anyone help please? I tried searching all forums with no solution :(

Hi ! I fixed it by using 2 balanced TRS cables for each channel, one for left and one for right from the CP88 into my audio interface. I don't know why Audio through USB is not as good@@user-kp2ul7sea

CP4. 😉 If you‘re looking for the best piano sounds, that is. And much more… The UI is better on the CP88 though. The YC only if you‘re into organ playing.

No way, go for YC. That’s what I should have gotten first. Sure the cp has more pianos but who needs 20 pianos? Just one or 2 great pianos is plenty.

I’m not an expert but I think you will need an interface to go between the keyboard and your midi cable to your computer.
You will need a recording program commonly called DAW as well. There are free programs you can use. Google the details.
There are two ways of recording your CP88.
1) You plug in your Cp to a Audio interface and the record this trough the Interface which is sonnected to your PC.
2) the cheaper Version: Get a USB MIDI cabel (USB-A to USB-B) and plug it into a PC. Download the SOftware from Yamaha and you are free to go :)
Roland Go MIxer Pro if you want to record by phone or use audio interface and connect to PC, notebook and record through software.
This one was recorded using XLR out direct into an audio interface.

Maybe, but much much much better keyboard (lightyears ahead) , better sounds, better everything. Sadly not better sounding than the older CP4 but I guess SCM‘s and warmth are not coming back.
Construction of the keyboard is MUCH better than any Nord. Nord gets their keyboards from Fatar, and they're not very good. Yamaha has really deep engineering and manufacturing resources, and they can do things Nord can't dream of doing.
