    Andrew , awesome presentation of this board. I purchased the CP73 when 1st released. I later sold it due to other inventory collection boards. Ohhh how I regretted selling it. I later purchased another one & liquidated other gear & have not regretted it. As of recently, I bought a 2nd CP73 in which the previous owner sold at a extreme low price . The CP series is unbelievable included with an inter graded interface that allows you to connect directly to either a iOS device or to a Mac Book and used the sounds reverting through the CP board etc. Unbelievable. Keep up the great work

    Hey Andrew! Thanks for the information on the waveforms that came with this new update-- specifically the Live CF3 sound -- I recognize that piano sound from the old school P-200 that a church I played at had all the way back in 2001 but I think the keyboard was even older than that. I love how Yamaha is literally going back in time with the updates and including like a "best of" all their piano samples/waveforms from over the years. I recognize the CF3 piano sound as the Full Grand piano waveform that is on my Motif ES8 a board from 2003 so like I said its kind of a history of piano samples that Yamaha is rocking. Very cool thanks again man, I am looking forward to what Yamaha will do with future updates!

    • @AndrewMcKain
      @AndrewMcKain  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks for watching and I completely agree!! The Live CF3 sound is definitely the piano sound that Yamaha was using on their early 2000’s keyboards that eventually became the Power Grand on the Motif. And the CF3 is definitely either the Full Grand from the ES8 or the Full Concert Grand from the Motif XS and XF. I love that they’re including all of their best piano sounds on here!

      @@anman366 thanks a lot!! I like to follow this kind of thing lol the S700 was originally on the S90 back around 2000, where I think the first Power Grand might have been introduced. On the S90ES it was the same sample that they used for the Natural Grand, Dark Grand, Intimate Grand and pretty much all the pianos on there. I didn’t see it on any keyboards again until the Montage. I wish they would’ve kept putting it on all the keyboards but I’m glad they’re bringing it back

      Recently purchased and sent my CP88 back. There was very noticeable keybed noise on every note while playing all piano samplings (even though the piano sounds were excellent). And the Ab above the octave plinked in stead of resonating. Musicians Friend took it back right away but, all in all a bad experience. Yamaha's has developed a slap together factory mentality and to save money really low balled the Keybed. Cheap aluminum frame as well. There are many great features on it but the above mentioned issue's were a deal breaker.

    You made this keyboard sound great. You play beautifully. Overall the Yamaha sound is a bit too bright for my tastes. But it definitely cuts through and one can tame the brightness with eq, if desired. Definitely one of the best state pianos out there today. But it needs someone like you who can really play well. A nice variety of brightish acoustic piano sounds on this board. Excellent demo. Wish I was one of those who lived near you so I could hear you play more often and learn from you.

    It's such a good review and your way of playing is lovely by all means... and it was so cool to start my day listening to this.
    To me the Black Nord is only second to Red Nord. In terms of authenticity most of these pianos are better than what the FP-90 X and Kawai ES-920 is bringing. They are not too special, they don't leave a good listener stunned but they are more than acceptable, never being more digital than they should. And the fact that Yamaha now samples a steinway is pretty meaningful as well!
    Thank you for publishing this and all the best.

    • @VadimShinnik
      @VadimShinnik 2 роки тому +3

      Hi Stenaldo! If we consider sounds what manufacturers offer, then yes! NORD's pianos are a bit harsh and a bit unnatural in the high register and the higher, the more sounds like plastic. But there is one sleeping and underappreciated beast Prophet XL! It supports samples in 24/48 quality. 50 GB of user samples. I personally sampled grand pianos from the best piano plug-ins and can assure you that the Prophet XL is a couple of heads higher here!!! First: Sound quality and dynamics (supports up to 20 layers)
      Second: the analog filters and the quality of the effects!
      Thirdly: The ability to combine the sound of a piano or any acoustic sample with an LFO and with the well-known snd acclaimed synthesizer engine from Prophet. And here there are already a lot of opportunities open up! Many of the musicians with whom I work on stage confirm that after Prophet, Nord is no longer so impressive, especially in terms of the piano sound. I assure you! One of the piano sounds which I sampled properly you can listen on my UA-cam Channel. Anyway, Nord for me is one of the top instruments along with Prophet XL although on the other hand people see nothing further than NORD

      @@davidmiller3652 I'd be really curious to see the CP88 you had. I've got a CP88, and to me, the action is absolutely first rate. EXTREMELY predictable velocity response from note to note (unlike, for instance, anything Nord makes with a Fatar action). The aluminum frame isn't cheap in any way. Very solid, and the instrument is light weight for the amount of solidity it has. I heard that Yamaha had its motorcycle division help with the structural design to provide the best strength vs. weight numbers. Much better design, IMO, than all the keyboards that are built on a big slab of cheap MDF. Gigging musicians don't want to haul around 60+ lb. keyboards.

      If I may inject here, the reason the keybeds feel different is because the CP73 has a keybed closely resembling an electric piano, while the CP88 has a keybed more like a grand piano.

Please, if you can help me and can you tell me if it is possible to do it, how do I do it? or if you can confirm that it is not possible, I return it to the store tomorrow. Hello, you should be able to connect the CP88 to the computer directly with a usb cord and have the VST audio come from the board itself. You can connect the board to the speakers and the volume should be fine as long as you have the VST’s turned up. If you use the interface, you just have to adjust the settings for midi to midi instead of USB

      @@AndrewMcKain Hello, let me explain, I want to use the cp88 only as a midi controller, connecting the cp88 to the pc via usb. but i don't want to connect the monitors to the cp88, i am using my monitors connected to my dedicated dac. Unfortunately I can't connect the cp88 to my dac, because it doesn't have 5 pin midi inputs and outputs. The problem is that although I set the sensitivity level to 127 on the cp88, I can't get most of my vsts rn kontakt, shine player from orchestral tools, to get anywhere near 120, even if I play the keys hard. nor changing the speed curve in the cp88. I don't know why, but connecting via usb doesn't work for about 127, and since I have vsts of strings that have several layers, I can't touch the last layers with cp88. It's a shame, because I really like the wooden keyboard.
