    Hey Jimmy, ty for all these tutorials. They have completely changed the quality of my edits. Exposure bracketing/blending is 99% of what I need to do when editing photos, since I mainly do landscapes and astroscapes. I have purchased your Rayo Pro software, but am still learning it. I'm just curious as to what wide-angle lens you use. I have the Tamron 10-24mm G2 on my D500, which has been great for me, but I'm just wondering if upgrading to an FX system would have a significant improvement to my results. Do you have any experience with the difference between using DX vs FX glass? Was their a noticeable difference in your prints (I do medium-large prints....40x60 or 60x90cm). The upgrade to an FX system would likely be several thousand dollars, so I was just curious as to what your thoughts were.

    This does produce natural results but for some reason people like using HDR software because of the surreal results that it gives, I am going to experiment with the ways that you teach to see what it does for me, thanks mate.

    Love your tutorials, Jimmy! I mainly use the 32-bit HDR method in PS, and fine tune the TIFF file with luminosity masks. For me, I usually have the best success with that, since I take brackets of seven images. I need to upgrade from CS6, so I can get your Raya Pro panel!

    • @JimmyMcIntyre
      @JimmyMcIntyre  8 років тому

      Thanks for the comment. 32 bit is a decent way to go. It doesn't give us perfect control over the exposure blending process, and isn't idea for more complex scenes, but it is significantly better than most tone mapping options out there

    Jimmy, I have a question and really hope you can answer it, why do the highlights in cityscape images look odd with a bit of grey cast or grey colour after you restore them in luminosity mask or colour range? I mean the colours in the highlights don't look the same like in the original dark exposure where we restored the highlights from. It seems that it is more natural and almost flawless if we actually use the midtones channel instead of bright channel but it is frustrating as you need to brush carefully, any explanation will be much appreciated mate! cheers.

    Great video Jimmy, much better to see the person who is doing the video. I had trouble getting my head around luminosity masks before as i was selecting the mask then running the actions and I wasn't able to "paint" the details where i wanted them as it was applying the full mask but this video has explained where i was going wrong. Just to put this in context...I done a HDR of a shot in Chicago a couple of years ago and then redone it after you uploaded this using luminosity masks and there was a world of difference between them - the HDR now looks complete rubbish but the luminosity one looks much better.......And that got into explore on Flickr!! Cheers Jimmy!

    A question keeps coming up for me when you're using Apply Image with Raya Pro (I'm a new user to your software) - what makes you determine which to use (Dark 1,2,3 or Bright 1,2,3) - are 1,2,3 just different levels of "dark" or "bright" or is there some other factor here? Or is the 1,2,3 a stronger mask selection? Thanks!

    I Jimmy. I've been watching your videos since a long time ago. I really like the results you get after retouching your images. They really looks really nice and natural.
    I have decided to follow many of your online tutorials and also bought a pack about how to use your luminosity masks. I have followed every step very precisely and I ended up with completely different results. Once I select any of channels layers, brights, midtones or darks channels and then return to the image, if i paint over the image to blend layers, the selection is not working and basically the images are not blend correctly. You have patches of the image below regardless of the selection.
    Also, the masks I try to create for a layer are always created on black. Cannot create it on black as you have on your videos. Also, to end up with an image "similar" to yours, I have to paint the mask on the image instead of doing in on the layer as you always do. If I do it like you do, nothing is changed. This is very frustrating! I never get nothing 10% close of what I suppose to get following any of your tutorials.
    I am using a MacBook Pro with 16 GB Ram, OS X Yosemite and PhotoShop CC2014. I am also using your JM Luminance Masks.
    Do you know if there is any missing configuration I have to perform to be able to fix this?
    Tanks in advance and regards,
    Marquicio
