  • “One of the survivors, here in Michigan, would always start out his speech by saying ‘Please don’t let anybody teach you how to hate. And don’t you teach anybody how to hate.’ And I think that’s a pretty good creed to live by."
Jewish survivor, Edith Maniker, survived the Holocaust at 8 years old by escaping Germany on the Kindertransport. In her USC Shoah Foundation testimony, Edith discusses her “mixed emotions” about identifying as a Holocaust survivor and recalls the process of acknowledging the validity of her experience.

What a lovely, gracious lady she is. So sad for young children , bless them, but how lucky for them. But the bravery of those parents who gave up their children - I don’t think it can possibly be believed. How desperate they were. We are so lucky and we keep forgetting it.🙏🙏🙏👵🇦🇺

To hear the stories of children that were sent to freedom via the Kinder Transports amazes me. They were lucky enough to survive while most parents did not. To hand over your children, give them away is heartbreaking enough. But to know that you are being separated for possibly always to safeguard their future is a great decision. Being so young, it's great that Edith can retell her stories, which as a child can become so insignificant. Even though these interviews are from 1998, her story is as relevant today as in anytime in history. Never forget. Baruch Hashem.

Imagine being in a situation where calling your caregiver “Your Ladyship” is preferable to the alternative.
Imagine also the English sent their kids to us in Canada.
This whole thing is so creepy.

I cannot imagine handing over my children like Clara did and for Edith to be a young girl and leave behind your family and all she knew. Thank you for sharing. God bless.

A fine Lady who is telling her story very clearly. She was a very humble person. The trip to England,of her sister. Her aunt was a very brave lady who send her three children to England.Edith came also to England. She was eight years old.

it's a privilege to hear her relay this in english, all these survivors know so many languages due to the many displacements and adaptations they had to experience in their upbringing :( i know only English and it's a privilege not to need more. I want to learn more because it's brilliant to me, but for most who speak multiple languages, it was necessity to survive

I appreciate you sharing your knowledge about history and genealogy. When I do genealogy research it gives me perspective on what my Dad, Fred White lived through and how my life has been a lot easier than my Dad Fred's life was in the 1920's and 1930's and 1940's and 1950's. When I do genealogy research it improves mental health because it develops how I think. When I read and learn about World War 2 and what it was like before they had public assistance, it changes the ways that I think. The government created public assistance which is food stamps and HEAP and cash assistance and SSI in about 1976 which means that my Dad Fred and my grandparents did not have public assistance because public assistance did not exist in the 1920's and 1930's and 1940's and 1950's and 1960's.
Some of my Dad Fred White's family members died in the Holocaust in Europe

This song is for my sisters
Stephanie Tami White-Ignacio who died several years ago in about November 2018
    Alan Jackson Lyrics
    "Sissy's Song"
Why did she have to go
So young I just don't know why
    Things happen half the time
    Without reason without rhyme
    Lovely, sweet young woman
    Daughter, wife and mother
    Makes no sense to me
    I just have to believe
She flew up to Heaven on the wings of angels
By the clouds and stars and passed where no one sees
And she walks with Jesus and her loved ones waiting
And I know she's smiling saying
    Don't worry 'bout me
    Loved ones she left behind
    Just trying to survive
    And understand the why
    Feeling so lost inside
    Anger shot straight at God
    Then asking for His love
    Empty with disbelief
    Just hoping that maybe
She flew up to Heaven on the wings of angels
By the clouds and stars and passed where no one sees
And she walks with Jesus and her loved ones waiting
And I know she's smiling saying
    Don't worry 'bout me
    It's hard to say goodbye
    Her picture in my mind
They'll always be of times I'll cherish
    And I won't cry 'cause
She flew up to Heaven on the wings of angels
By the clouds and stars and passed where no one sees
And she walks with jesus and her loved ones waiting
And I know she's smiling saying
    Don't worry 'bout me
    Don't worry 'bout me

In 1974 to the 1990's, our Dad, Fred White and mother, Carol Jones Springer took our brothers and I to Washington, D.C. every year to see our sister, Stephanie Tami White-Ignacio who worked at the World Bank.
We also saw sister, Stephanie Tami White-Ignacio's children, Brent Ignacio and Chris Ignacio.
We also saw our brother, Joel A. White, Liberty Mutual Insurance Agent and our sister, Michelle "Mikki" White-Pufundi and her children, Jennifer and Georgie Jr

In the 1970's we did not have food stamps and we had to grow food to eat in gardens.
In the 1970's in DeLancey, New York we had a large field that we planted potatoes in to grow food to eat.
The potatoes grow easier than most vegetables. The potatoes can be stored in bushels in the basement for food to eat during the Winters and this is what we had to do in the 1970's to have food to eat.
These females who gave birth to children in 2021 don't have to grow food to feed their children.

In 1974 to the 1990's, when our Dad, Fred White and mother, Carol took us to visit our sister, Stephanie Tami White-Ignacio and her sons, Brent Ignacio and Chris Ignacio we were age 1 to teenage years. We went swimming in the swimming pools and played Marco Polo. Some people dunked me under the water and I didn't swim as well as Brent and Chris. Brent told those people to not dunk us under the water. We all slept in the same room and in the same beds from age 1 to about age 12 or age 13. At about age 11, age 12, age 13 is when we started to sleep in separate beds or on the sofas and floor in the living room

My grandparents went to one room school houses in about the 1940's and 1950's and they went to school for primary school which is about kindergarten to seventh grade 🤓 They didn't get to go to high schools because they had to work on farms or in factories in those days
My Dad Fred White went to night school in about the 1920's and they didn't get to go to school in those days because they had to grow foods to eat in gardens and milk cows for food to eat

In 1974 to the 1990's, our Dad, Fred White and our mother, Carol Jones Springer took our brothers, William F White, David White(White Construction) and I to Jewish places out of town because we are Jewish and Christian.
We went to Temple Beth El in Oneonta, NY and to Monticello, NY to Katz deli and to the Jewish places in the Borscht belt and to NYC to Beth David Cemetery, Museum at Eldridge Street, to bat mitvahs, bar mitvahs, mikveh baths, brit milah(circumcisions).
We also went to Christian churches too. In the 1970's to about 2005 or 2006 or 2008, there was privacy and not this transparency, no privacy stuff so that hundreds to thousands of people can know all our bee's wax.
We were not hiding stuff from anyone :(
Does transparency, no privacy get adults & children to follow the Constitution, rules, laws, criterion, fire codes, H.I.P.P.A laws and to be ethical and honest?
Does transparency, no privacy get people to be monogamous?
Is there less infidelity with transparency, no privacy?
Do adults feel "less threatened" by people when they know everything they can know about that person?
Does transparency, no privacy make adults & children less ignorant?
Does transparency, no privacy teach adults & children how to think things through for the short-term and long-term?
Does transparency, no privacy provide the education and abilities to comprehend? :(
In about 2005 or 2006 the no privacy, transparency stuff started.
