YT is pretty much the future of skate media unless some major change occurs, it just makes sense because it’s so widely accessible. It’s the new magazine rack. I do see a difference between skaters making UA-cam videos and UA-camrs making skateboarding videos, but at this point I’m just glad that we all have easy access to skateboarding and don’t have to hunt down physical media to get a glimpse of what’s happening or to reminisce on old times.
really it comes down to validation: being on a team and in the magazines, having a board, industry sponsorships, probably some contests. those are the only metrics i can think of. if you don't gatekeep what a professional is somehow, then what even is a pro?
tbh after watching this it just seems like this is more of that subtle struggle & victimization mentality society is falling into these days. they literally even said the words "empower" and "inclusiveness". people always trying to redefine the words, meanings, labels that represent the echelons they'll never dwell within or standards they can't meet.
neat video. Why is Leticia on the splash screen for this video, but she doesn't appear in it? Using a pro to validate your talk about non-pro status? Interesting...
UA-camrs are about as far away from punk rock as you can possibly get..what is she smoking?? If its punk then the last thing you care about is making money or clout from online videos.
If people know who you are and your getting mag coverage and your name is on a board your pro. Now how popular you are as a pro and how sales are for your board is the question 🤔
You're not professional just for a name on a board. The skate community has to somewhat agree that you deserve it or it's just meaningless. Also why did Redbull decide to have so many influencers and no actual core pros in these interviews? That creates (within this video) an inaccurate view of the professionalism of skateboarding. Skate culture is diverse theres good and bad people within it but most just want to feel the space is respected and taken somewhat seriously. And all this only applies to pros, as well as people who claim to be or want to be pro and those who wish to be accepted by the skate community. No one cares about a non-pros style, trick selection, and choice in gear, if you aren't trying to be pro you do as you please.
I think not speaking on contest for this documentary was a missed opportunity. As the ability to enter contests is a big deciding factor on where a skater is classified in their "career" if they are pursuing skateboarding as such, being able to enter a pro contest is a big deal, or to me it is. Revive stuff, I see that as merch.. social media merchandise, but then again..maybe it's all merch now? Seeing as their riders don't really take part in the big overall story of skateboarding, ie they miss the big magazines and contest coverage opportunities... And that's really my only issue with a brand like revive... None of their guys are involved with contests OR big skateboarding media, some of them have been on that side (John Hill for instance) but none of them do that currently, no representation in the magazines that are left, or any other core source of skateboarding media, and none of them are involved in core skateboarding contests like Tampa pro. I mean yeah they stay in their lane.... Which is good for business I guess, but I'd like to see them branch out and get more involved with the rest of skateboarding, I find it weird that they are completely in the lane of social media skateboarding and nowhere else. granted yes...that's where majority of skateboarding exists now regardless, that's the way of the world now. Yeah, I want to see one of their riders skate Tampa pro or whatever...from outside perspective it seems their guys shy away from contests like many "core" pro skaters do. But on whatever team, you'll have people that ARE into contests... None of them in revive are, or maybe they aren't invited? Idk. Can a skater like John Hill, who's pro for revive, register for Tampa pro if he wanted to? Or is he not allowed because he's on a brand built off of social media, or some other reason? Regardless, there is something to be said about the relevancy between the ability to enter pro contests, and starting a company and putting people on and deeming them pro skaters. To me it's more than just a following and name on a board. That's why I appreciate contests as much as I do... regardless if it's pro or am or whatever. Its a moment to put some order to the chaos of skateboarding and really puts things into perspective. As much as like video parts, we know things take time to make... In a contest, it's what do you have RIGHT NOW, in this moment in time... you got that? You win. It's a big deal... That performance under pressure on a big stage is a big deal. So if a skater can not register for pro contest if they want to, I can't in good conscious consider them pro.
well they did mention contest being the way skaters turned pro. I can't tell if they will make a video on this topic since they are sponsors of contest.
@@okaylow9124 yeah I think you're right. Some people don't consider contest as being a deciding factor at all, if a skater is considered pro or not. But to me, it's a big deal and one of the leading deciding factors... although not the only one.
A lot easier to become a pro skater nowadays! Hell Lil Wayne is pro! A lot harder back before social media. So many brands popping up and ohhhh lets make u make pro but I believe 90% probably deserve it
Red Bull, you guys have been putting out some awesome content and I'm always interested to know what you are up to, but this segment is not good, it has some vulgar language and a sexually immoral scene that can bring the way of error into the hearts of husbands and wives, adulterous thoughts that separate families and break hearts. I urge you to edit out such things in order to maintain your excellence and productivity. "Wisdom is not for fools." "Can you teach a fool to be wise? No, the wise do not teach proverbs for fools to repeat them." "He who loves folly will not love wisdom and will remain foolish, indubitably, the fruit of his deeds will bring only destruction." The righteous people who repeat such divine wisdom have laid before us a path in life that leads to a productive and fruitful life, and we will be blessed as a race, avoiding the fate of the Nazi regime and of similar fools, if we choose to be wise over being a fool. I will have prayed to God for you to truly understand what is being said here and indubitably, all of you will be blessed according to God's will. Peace to you
Anymore becoming a pro skateboarder is kinda wack! Cause you really don’t Need skill or talent anymore to even become one, especially when you got people Like Skatemoss and Lil Wayne in the mix that really shouldn’t even be sponsored or so called pro For that matter. More Like a Joke really!

Yeah, I like having wide access to a bunch of parts on UA-cam
In case anyone was wondering, the skater that hated on Chris was John Hill...
This video is very insightful, just hearing alot of different perspectives on a topic that they enjoy the most.
I would’ve liked Zach Dowdy on this the king of DIY!
really it comes down to validation: being on a team and in the magazines, having a board, industry sponsorships, probably some contests. those are the only metrics i can think of. if you don't gatekeep what a professional is somehow, then what even is a pro?
exactly. most of these you have to have under your belt just to get your name on a board.
I’ve always heard that you make skateboarding your own art/style. I don’t understand why some people get upset by content creator skatersy
Cause they can't do it themselves.
Consistency and versatility style of producing trick landing effort and turning into a professional skater?!
A lot of times if people are hating on you you're doing something right
Lol what the hell is Sharney doing in this video 😂😂🤣
this was soo good! way to go team!
Being innovative and skating better than 90% of everyone else. Consistency and style matters too. Character points.
90%...

Lmfaooo john hill hating on chris
People are just mad that they had to work harder to get noticed imo

I'll simplify it. She's hot and they knew people would click.
“Splash screen”?… first time I’ve ever seen it called that.
@@goobah1389 Yeah what would you call it? Promo still?
@@tempexrer5627 its called a thumbnail image
I'll give you two guesses.
Using Leticia Bufoni as clickbait 🤌
I think personality is huge. Just like in anything in life . Skill isn’t everything
To be fair. Even the kookiest YT skate video is basically a KOTR video
Love this
First track in the video Tom Knox kickflip down the seven at Redwood High School

Everyone’s pro nowadays.
Well not me.
Putting Mr.Hill behind a filter 🙈 dammmn, that drama was like 5 years ago 😂
@@JohnHill Stay true to the homies always💪 Love ya John. Keep killing it! ❤️
I get it now
Ok the guy that does onlyfans is just a dude who can skate but does DYI porn. What does that have to do with getting paid as a pro skater?
he was a youtube skater that turned to onlyfans to monetize his content because youtubes rules were too strict

UA-camr vs pro skater and c what happens
