Looks fantastic as a toy for a kid too. If I had one of these super articulated anime figures as a kid, I would have worshipped them hard. Articulations make such a difference during play time
I was actually considering this one surprisingly affordable figuart. Great photography potential from the alternate head. And it's really cool how they did the sandles, toe articulation matters here. Watching you mess with it along with scale was very helpful. I think I'm going to get it.
The lack of a string on the hat (or way to keep it on his back) and the knee situation really keep this from being a great figure/representation of the character. I'm going to assume there will be a V.2 of this down the line that will have more accessories and better movement range, but in the meantime this is a decent addition to my SJ figures.

For the hat part you could get the anime heros luffy and take his head off and if im not wrong it has the hat on the back and then js add it to the shf luffy
Nice review! But, I think i prefer more to the Romance Dawn Luffy than this because it can do bunch of poses and actions. We can even try to do the straw hat spinning thing like in the opening. So, I much prefer the Romance Dawn one. Can't wait to get to grab it

Onigashima is an island, both in real life, and on the show. And it all makes WAY more sense in anime/manga form. Check out some of the other figures that have been made as well; There are plenty of others that have all kinds of features! =)
Only thing I don't like about this figure is the lack of the black coat that he wears on his shoulders during the raid on Onigashima, which is what this figure is based on, but other than that it looks good

If you get a chance Id suggest the Imagination Works version of this figure. Its my favorite version. It may be a little larger (and more expensive) but its awesome

I picked this guy up at Walmart this morning. Pretty neat, but I've gotta get some upgrades for him. Way too cool of a figure not to have some stretching effects.
I was looking at those cuts in the back of his shorts that you mentioned, and also at one of the photos on the back of the box. I guess they were originally going to swivel up into the pants leg for a deeper knee bend, but they ran out of budget. It's a shame he doesn't get more bend there, but for $35 he's still pretty nice.

Sweet figure and a cool review. I took a chance and ordered the Variable Action Heroes One Piece figures as they made the characters from a different part of the series (manga/anime) that I identify with more. I do wish that these Luffy figures had more accessories or a deluxe version. Including food accessories (MEAT!) would not have been much of an additional cost. Sort of surprised by the omission. What would have cost more, but would have been cool, are elongated arms or a really big hand/fist. I mean, that's all low-hanging fruit, right?
I got this figure and the shoulders aren’t the best but I’d still love the figure if it wasn’t for how loose the waist on my copy is it can still hold a pose but it gets a tad annoying I still like the figure tho
Bro this toy is complete garbage. The legs are attached by a peg and not a ball joint. So if you have QC qualities with that one little peg you're right or left leg is going to keep falling off or won't even fit.
Be honest with me... Is adding accessories like an elongated leg for Gomu Gomu Axe or elongated arm for Gomu Gomu pistol too much to ask? They dont have to be 1 metre long, just a little longer than the body, so it looks like he's either launching an attack or about to wind it up. He's the rubber man and no figure has anything that shows it lmao

Mine keeps popping off like its a cheap bootleg. Honestly this is one of the worst figures I've ever gotten in long time and it sucks because I was excited for this figure. All of the joints were really stiff and squeaky and his sash kept falling off and like I said is right leg kept falling off. Shit... even his hat wont stay on very well. I was about to start collecting SH fig arts and this is a bit problem if im going to spend alot of money on toys. Even the sailor Moon I bought was barely poseable but definitely didn't have the problems this one has. I dont know how i feel about Sh figs. They're way too expensive to be having any problems like this.

They do this with Goku, too. Cheap entry level options and then variants that cost more later. Hopefully they’ll do that here

Even if we get the other straw hats they're all going to be in their outfits from the end of wano and I don't really feel like they all capture their personalities as well as they do for the monster trio.
