I never did anything related to wood or metal working, and yet I utterly enjoy your videos. I watch you doing these things and I almost feel like this is something I could love doing
HUS MAN Oh no! What went wrong? I'll help you if I can; I have no intention of misleading anybody, but making things does take some practice and effort.
pocket83 No no, your videos arent misleading and I did (almost) get the end results that I wanted. The only problem is that I'm not as precise as you at anything. And a lot of your viewers are probably not as skilled as you. The only way you could help me is if you could somehow transfer your skills over to me. Which is probably impossible. I guess I'll just have to train more, a lot more.
Very Creative and Beautiful. Thank you for showing us how to make this. I am obsessed with wind chimes and now I want some of these around my porch and garden.
I made three several years ago and just brought them in to fix the propellers which dried out and broke. I get great pleasure from them whirling in the wind. Thanks for the instruction.
Beautiful spinning in the sun. Very nice work . Thank you. Love 💕 from Debbie and Dexter-Dog my sweet tiny rescued Chihuahua companion living a quiet crafty life in southern California.🙋😯🐦😋🏠😄🙏✝️😁🐾👍🇺🇸
Well done!! You really do make some of the most creative, ingenious, and most importantly, well-thought-out DIY videos on the internet. I'm an avid subscriber and only wish you did more! Kudos!
It is amazing that you use the same materials over and over and it results in something completely different. Although I don't care for the actual object in this case. (That is not comparable to woodworking which is essential just making differently shaped boxes) The right one is trying to hard with the grain, more like an artists interpretation
Great trick for stripping the wire by putting an end into a vise. Gotta try that. I hate paying retail for copper wire and I have saved loads of wire from various electrical projects done around our home.
Pocket.. I have filtered through a good chunk of ur videos, and not only am I impressed with the projects you create, but I am utterly awed by the Skill.. Talent.. Intelligence.. and craftsmanship you bring to everything those hands of yours touch. Well done sir* Also, you have a great lair.. Oops, workshop. Thank you for the hard work, and great ideas*
I never cease to be amazed at your work. I wish there was some commentary to this great video as I like the clear step by step explaining. Great video, Pocket!
Very nicely made, especially as it's made from "reclaimed" materials haha. If I were to make it I'd perhaps use some copper sheet in place of the plastic for the vanes, but I get that's not really the point, unless you happen to have something with copper plates in it you're recycling. Anyway, thanks for sharing.
Very nice. Another great use for leftover romex. For anyone doing jewelry crafting, a ring sizer might come in handy here (if you don't have any PVC tubing laying around).
Thank you for your great videos. You never disappoint, they are always entertaining, informative, fun and I love that you put in easter eggs. You're always teaching something not just entertaining us. Please keep it up. I look forward to your videos.
(please forgive my english wrighting, it is not the best)..... im a person that likes to build stuff and create new things.. but not only that, i like making it look good as well as having a purpouse and making it actually work, which for me is just more fun, almost like a puzzle.. so i really enjoy finding other people with that same hobby & i really apreciate when they find time to teach others what they have learned over the years instead of keeping the knowledge to themselves... what really amazed me was the way that you looked at a couple of materials around the house, got an idea and you where able to put together this beautiful decoration in such a simple way too! everything was clearly demonstrated without a word being said & not alot of people can pull that off without confusing the viewers... i can be 100% certain when i say that you have an amazing talent and your a really inteligent guy! (and i dont even know you)! here you have a new subscriber for sure! which probably doesnt mean that much to you but your knowledge and expertees meens alot to me and i look forward to seeing more videos like this from you.. im curiouse to know everything thats inside that head of yours :D haha p.s. im from Puerto Rico and am currently living here now! idk where YOUR from but you can be 100% sure that your work is apreciated even in this little island in the carabean ;) will definetly share this video..
Jose Gabriel Thank you! I honestly appreciate that. I'm all the way up here in Pennsylvania, and I think it's great to imagine this: I had a simple idea for a little spinning trinket, and then I showed others how I made it... and now, maybe somewhere in the Caribbean, one just like it is spinning in the breeze! It's nice to know that so far away, people can still have such similar likes- thanks for letting me know that.
pocket83 I won't argue that VSauce is probably the best, but if you remember my blog, you're in the top few right alongside them! Also, I'm going to say right...for several reasons that I won't put here to maintain the mystery for you :)
Fantastic work! I'm always mystified by your videos, you always make something I thought out of my current skill set into an elegant process and video. And now I might have to get some copper wiring and experiment my own Keep up the great work!
Scott Ellis Thank you. Remember, many hard-looking projects are just a series of simple steps. Break it down into what you _know_ you can do first, and most things tend to fall into place ;)
Typical Cat Thanks! Your pic reminds me of an early Louis Wain painting. Check him out, if you'd like to see some non-typical cats: www.google.com/search?q=louis+wain&biw=1365&bih=635&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=HIhLVd7qMsbUsAWL2oCIBA&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ
I saw one of your videos and went through and watched most all of them. I do a lot of projects myself I love some of the subtle subliminal messaging in your videos! Keep posting them I love your work!
I made my mom some stained glass hummingbirds and hung them just like that in one of her trees! Glass and metal are awesome. I just should of saved them till now cuz I've just took a Calc 2 final today, been swamped with studying for that beast. But I still got till Sunday! I have these little glas jewels, might figure out something to do with those.
Awesome video as always! I think I might have added a fishing barrel swivel between the line and the first section of copper though, that way it would keep spinning in the same direction and not need to unwind... Agree with all the others who have mentioned it, your editing skills are really getting better and/or more impressive with each video, and they were never bad! Keep up the great vids man, we'll keep watching and showin' the love. Also...Right is my guess...
Ryan Smith Great minds think alike! I had the same thought, and then I went to my tackle-box: there were no swivels. It turned out okay though, because the spinning builds a reserve (potential) energy. There are four on the back porch presently, and they seem to stay in motion with only the slightest breeze. Thanks for the support.
With several of them together, I guess it would look pretty cool when they were all spinning in different directions...one way with the wind, then against it as they unwind. Would love to have about 100 of these hanging from the branches on the trees in my front yard...I love seeing large numbers of the same thing together...always been a weird quirk of mine.
Is there a ratio between the size of the marble ( I only have a small one ), the length of the wire and the diameter of the prop? I don't drink milk so I'm going to try flattening a piece of beer can aluminum to make the prop.
Nicholas Alderman yeah but think about this the shadow could be painted on where as the shadow being cast onto the table can't be so the one on the left is more possible i think because it has dark sides that match the shadow.
The only problem with this is the use of milk-jug plastic which is not UV stable and will break-down over time if left in the sun. Otherwise, looks great! Very innovative.
69adrummer Irreconcilable differences. She advocates Tao, and I'm on the side of Pi. Also, she ignores virtually all comments, which I find irresponsible. Don't get me wrong- I still think she is a wonderful creature, but I don't expect that we will ever exchange ideas. I'm too small potatoes, anyhow; there are much more important people out there for her to collaborate with. Flattering suggestion, though. BTW, check out her dad, George. He has a YT channel too, and interest wise, he is very similar to me. Had I not quit the math, I think I would have ended up like him. Oh, and thanks for continuing to watch and comment- I appreciate it!
+pocket83 I stand corrected, it is not metric, I had to look it up again as I didn't think it had anything to do with skipping one stud as stated in your description. Yet is has been a few years since I have done any serious specifications for building construction. It is in fact the alternate spacing that is allowed when using engineered floor trusses. The engineered floor truss usually has a flat wise 2 X 4 for the top member offering 3 1/2 inches of support compared to the standard 1 1/2 inch face of the nominal 2 X 4 floor joist. There is 14 1/2" span of floor sheathing in standard joist construction. Using the 19 1/4" spacing with a 2 X 4 flat wise there is 15 3/4" unsupported. With modern plywood or OSB the 1 1/4" difference is insignificant. One should check local building codes to see if this non-standard spacing meets codes.
Looks great! I love the look of copper, and a fun thing for Mother's Day. I guess the one on the left. Also, the picture looks like it was taken upside down. (Your videos are getting so good, your editing is tight!)
I made the hole in the flower spinning part to big and now it doesn't spin nicely, i wire wrapped above and below the plastic flower but it still doesn't spin nicely
easyer way of removing isolation: strip the 2 ends down clamp on of them in the vise pull on the other one real hard the increased lenght means a decrease in width so the isolation can be pulled away easily
pocket83 would you tell me the gauge copper wire used in the project and size marble.....I went to Lowe's got 8 gauge today and did the whole bending thing to the wire,it's so stiff I could use it as a shock absorber : ) cool stuff you do THANK YOU
So how did your Mom like this gift? I liked watching you make it, in fact I really enjoy all your videos. The content, filming, etc. is always great. Just curious: What camera and editing software do you use to make your videos?
finster101 As you can probably imagine, I've made mom lots of novel things in my life, so I think that she _expects_ me to create such; less would be a let-down, I suppose. About the camera, there is already a (recent) video about that, but I use Movie Maker for the editing.
pocket83 Thanks for the reply. Sorry. I somehow missed the video about the camera, I guess I should have searched through your videos again before asking.
Not only is this a neat project but your video should be shown in geometry classes to show that you can have fun with math...algebra...not so much, LOL
Abby Rexroth Haha. Thanks. They are really both the same thing though: Algebra is just the way that we describe geometry! But everybody loves to play with a compass ;)
Next time, just stand on the end of the wire, hold the other end up, and use a carpet knife with a fresh blade, start at the bottom, and gently slide it up the wire. Almost instantly you will be able to peel away the insulation.
The circle is 3" diameter, and the cuts opposite one another are about 1" from connecting to each other. The spacing is simply six even parts, which can be done with a compass. I think all of this is shown in the video, so try watching again carefully.

***** Thanks! I try to film these so that it makes you feel like... _I could do that._
pocket83 But in reality, you probably can't. I *tried* some of your creations.
HUS MAN Well, I promise that the next one is something that you can repeat pretty easily, as long as you have a table-saw ;)
The handmade windcharms are so cute.
Mom is sure to be happy!!❤

Fantastic. I love watching artists do their thing. And super camera.
Great trick for stripping the wire by putting an end into a vise. Gotta try that. I hate paying retail for copper wire and I have saved loads of wire from various electrical projects done around our home.
This video is amazing. Just watching someone do something that they are good at with no narrative is just oddly soothing and enjoyable :D
Wonderful project and original gift, thanks for sharing.

I never cease to be amazed at your work. I wish there was some commentary to this great video as I like the clear step by step explaining. Great video, Pocket!
Che belli! Mai visti dei mulini a vento così, di solito ho sempre visto usare lattine... questo è davvero particolare e bellissimo. Complimenti👏👏👏🔝👍
Very nicely made, especially as it's made from "reclaimed" materials haha. If I were to make it I'd perhaps use some copper sheet in place of the plastic for the vanes, but I get that's not really the point, unless you happen to have something with copper plates in it you're recycling. Very nice. Another great use for leftover romex.
For anyone doing jewelry crafting, a ring sizer might come in handy here (if you don't have any PVC tubing laying around).
I find some sort of satisfaction watching your videos
Another masterpiece, didn't expect anything less from you Pocket.
Such a good sone. This Mom would love it!
I get the same enjoyment watching your videos as I do watching Walter Lewins draw lines on a chalkboard, a feat achieved by few.
Oh my goodness - this mom/grand mom loves it!
The videos I've viewed so dad are amazing thank you Pocket83, keep up the good work.
Beautiful.
Thanks.
Greetings from Brazil.
I absolutely love this. I love spinners. Thanks for sharing.
really like how you always try to do different things video wise. like that little pivot you did with the camera was just a cool shot.
Thank you for your great videos. You never disappoint, they are always entertaining, informative, fun and I love that you put in easter eggs. You're always teaching something not just entertaining us. Please keep it up. I look forward to your videos.
notsunkyet Thank you! I'll have another full-length one out by the end of the week. I'm happy that you like these.
Copper, glass and HDPE. Very cool project!
I say the left, my wife claims the right. Don't let me down.... :)
Peter Brown im here for the puzzle in your vid tbh
Projects like these make me feel like I'm not crazy for hording so many wires.

You have no idea how happy I was when It said pocket83 1 in my sub box. You (In my opinion have the best videos on UA-cam.
Craig Wantuck That comment made my day! But I think Vsauce has the best videos on UA-cam.

So beautiful!
beautifully made
Luv them! We'll definitely be making some.
I'd say the right set of cubes
?
Jonathan Resendi I thought the left one was the illusion because on the right one you could see the shadow
Jonathan Resendi im gonna go with left.
Nicholas Alderman yeah but think about this the shadow could be painted on where as the shadow being cast onto the table can't be so the one on the left is more possible i think because it has dark sides that match the shadow.

MAN I REALLY WANT TO BE A CARPENTER NOW I WATCHED ALL YOUR VIDEOS THERE AMAZING!!!!!
IT LOOKS SO BEAUTIFUL
I think if you and that ViHart gal made a video together the universe would implode!

Los mejores 7:49 minutos de mi día... "060515". Aún no puedo cerrar la boca!!! GRACIAS.👍
The diamond on the tape measure is the metric stud spacing.
Nope. That doesn't work out. Read the description.
+pocket83 I stand corrected, it is not metric, I had to look it up again as I didn't think it had anything to do with skipping one stud as stated in your description. Left and I never knew fire could be so...
...not destructive.
Very NICE indeed!
Que bonitos!! Gracias por compartir.
Looks great! I love the look of copper, and a fun thing for Mother's Day.
I guess the one on the left. Also, the picture looks like it was taken upside down.
(Your videos are getting so good, your editing is tight!)
Mike Warren Thanks! Glad you liked the edit. I was worried it might be a bit on the long side.
pocket83 I usually like to consume videos quickly, but sometimes I like to enjoy watching someone create. I think you struck a nice balance here.
I think I can do that! Yes I can and yes i will. Thanks it was fun watching.....
Thank you my mom loved it:)
I made the hole in the flower spinning part to big and now it doesn't spin nicely, i wire wrapped above and below the plastic flower but it still doesn't spin nicely
easyer way of removing isolation:
strip the 2 ends down
clamp on of them in the vise
pull on the other one real hard
the increased lenght means a decrease in width so the isolation can be pulled away easily
Nice job, I love it!
Today I learned I've been cutting monofilament fishing line the hard way my entire life.
pocket83 would you tell me the gauge copper wire used in the project and size marble.....I went to Lowe's got 8 gauge today and did the whole bending thing to the wire,it's so stiff I could use it as a shock absorber : ) cool stuff you do THANK YOU
pocket83 left. Btw you just got another subscriber. Keep up the creative thinking and the puzzles are fun to solve haha.
Great Idea, Thanks!
Simple but most useful
lovely. Thank you
Must say I love this ♥️
Beautiful glad I subscribed!
LEFT IS THE ILLUSION!
Very cool.. new to your channel..love the marble where do you find them?
Copper is a gorgeous metal but keep in mind it is soft and will stretch out over time. Don't add any weight to hook.
So how did your Mom like this gift? I liked watching you make it, in fact I really enjoy all your videos. The content, filming, etc. is always great. Just curious: What camera and editing software do you use to make your videos?

finster101 (Oops, wrong profile). No problem. I can't expect everyone to be familiar with every post. It's a big internet ;)
I'm gonna go with left.
I bet the back 'cube' is not actually separate from the others or something.
beautiful
There are elements of both that look illusory, right looks more obvious so im going with left.
Love it❤
Not only is this a neat project but your video should be shown in geometry classes to show that you can have fun with math...algebra...not so much, LOL
Abby Rexroth Haha. Thanks. They are really both the same thing though: Algebra is just the way that we describe geometry! But everybody loves to play with a compass ;)
you're a good son.
Nice. Like it.
NICE!!! ❤
Isn't the little diamond for studs?
Next time, just stand on the end of the wire, hold the other end up, and use a carpet knife with a fresh blade, start at the bottom, and gently slide it up the wire. Almost instantly you will be able to peel away the insulation.
I believe the left set is the fake. The shadow cast by the leftmost cube of the right set is enough to convince me.
hang little mirror squares to the hook at the bottom and not only will the wind speak to you but the sun will also
Amazing!
What size are the balls and where do you find them. I am having no luck.
Sooo where"s the description ?
That is really nice. Have you considered using some type of coating (lacquer or something) to prevent corrosion?
Where do you find these copper wire scraps and what’s the gauge on them?
When making the fan, what are the measurements to cut for each fin?
The circle is 3" diameter, and the cuts opposite one another are about 1" from connecting to each other. The spacing is simply six even parts, which can be done with a compass. I think all of this is shown in the video, so try watching again carefully.
Impressive
Amazing!!!!!
Does a rock work for the inside? And all i have is rubber bands is that good?
mooofin9898 Yes, but potato.
I enjoy watching your creativity because you keep your pie hole shut and just do it. Then you get these fuktards who want to tell YOU how you should have done it...while watching YOUR video. LMFNO! Keep doin what your doin dude. And thanks for sharing with us who give a sheite.
It is a studed making at 19.2 inches
Muito bom parabéns amei 👏👏👏👏👏👍
right is illusion: look at the shadows on the table vs shadows on the object
