This is not an Oakland public school. This is a small sponsored Catholic school for a very specific type of student with a great community. With this high quality community, of course these kids can be successful despite lower income or immigrant parents.

Well, it also begs the question as to whether a kid is "successful" if he chooses to NOT go to a 4 year college. Should kids spend the time and effort to apply to college when they have already decided on another career path?
This might be a case there the school student advisors are giving advice that makes the institution look good but doesn't necessarily benefit the individual student.

@@GilmerJohn College is absolutely presented as the thing to do in these environments and perhaps isn’t always. However, these are smart young people with good habits and that goes a long way regardless. The religious background can also help with raising strong families. Hopefully they see past all the far left indoctrination .

You made it sound no big deal. (I know no one from the school.)

@@BruceMilpitas Setting up a school community like this is the big deal and it took a ton of community support. After that, students can certainly be trained successfully and will want to do well because their peers are on the same path.

Also, the graduating class is less than 40 students.

Two year college or trade school can be the smarter move these days for some of these students.

What an extraordinary accomplishment! (A retired language teacher, I did notice in the report that "principal" was spelled incorrectly. Proofreaders?!)

college and jobs is a prime example of the correlation causation fallacy, good jobs are correlated with college, but not necessarily caused by college, i.e. prior ability may be more important

Oakland needs trades people too, college isn't for everyone - if everybody has a degree then the degree is worthless

You never did. Back in the 60s I recall reading in Forbes that adults that dropped out before even getting much high school made more than those that did finish high school.

Lots of cal states … should do an interview on a school in the peninsula. Lots of students accepted into UC’s and other great schools

Thank you for providing that information that this was not a Oakland school because I was wondering where the blackheads as well as other races of children you made it clear that this is a private school that makes the difference because I was stunned cuz I was looking at all these children are not seeing any minority children and I want all children no matter the race color or Creed to be able to get a fair education because that's what makes the difference in our economic situation so I'm glad you made that clear that it was a private school because I would want to know where my tax dollars are going all children in my opinion again should be able to have a quality education no matter the race color or Creed

Now just make sure they’re not going to go off to college and take out a thousand loans that they will still be paying when they’re 64 years old.

Well, by the emphasis on the admission to the 4 year college, the high school is prepping them into the "Degree or Oblivion" way of thinking. Again, that's been happening for about 70 years but it hasn't done anyone any good. It hasn't helped the students, it hasn't help the universities (aside from increasing heir ca$h flow), and it hasn't help society as a whole.
It's interesting to note that in the middle ages, bright kids with little to no social standing or wealth, were able to be the powers behind the kings.

Getting admitted to 4-year universities like California State University is not really easy. Most of universities accept you if you apply.
