    This is why I'd rather work for indie projects. They are more likely to let you use other programs and you don't need a degree.

      Big companies would most likely require people to use specific software since they have a pipeline. Although some would allow the use of other software, it might impact efficiency and workflow further down the line.

    I have a totally genuine question. Is there ever a point when a show or project runs out of new characters that need to be drawn? If that happens, do your responsibilities shift? I genuinely want to know cause I am so interested in how this job works

      I'm not Jackie but I believe so? Like I'm sure there's help in storyboarding, stuff in animation but usually you can't really run out of things to do when creating and designing characters like even excluding the stuff she listed, there's like alternative outfits to the characters (like summer outfits, gowns, suits all that jazz), unused designs (the designers of the owl house recently tweeted stuff about designs for the characters in the finale and they're really good to look at), the characters in different ages of their life (like designing the kid form of a character, their adult appearance etc.). Character design is basically an endless cycle really.
      Everything in animation or anything that requires characters, even in character design, can change on a whim so like you're designing characters one day the next you're helping to storyboard or you may be helping to render the character designs in the actual thing especially in 3d animation or games. At least I believe thats how it works. I'm only just learning animation and currently doing my foundation year of a BA in Animation so I'm only a beginner and not really the person to answer this but I saw a tweet a while ago on the question you asked so I've at least read a bit on it.

      @@chinatsukiseki4210 Oooooh, that is so cool, and a great answer. And you’re totally right, I’m sure that in animation there is always more to do. I had completely not thought about the work of outfits and stuff. I bet with each new one you’d have to make a new turnaround. That is so cool that you’re going to school for animation, too! I can’t draw to save my life, but I’m so interested in the subject. I love watching videos of how people got into animation programs and stuff. Anyway, thanks for the great answer! 😊

      in a lot of jobs people tend to prefer to hire someone with a bachelors degree because it acts as a sort of guarabtee that someone can work responsibly under pressure abd doesn't need to constantly be told what to do. i have seen this in any management and IT jobs (even if the opening is not management or IT)

    Does it have to be on Photoshop or as long as they are Photoshop files? I work on both Clip Studio and Photoshop but I'm more comfortable in CSP. CSP lets u export as PSD Files so is that okay?

    • @dragonsheen3049

      I don’t see why not, but I wouldn’t advertise it to a potential employer if that isn’t what they’re looking for. Some middle manager types can be extremely picky about things that just don’t really matter. Should you find yourself in a position like this, it would probably be fine to just quietly work in CSP and export the PSDs, with the understanding that if you’re found out you may be pressured to switch.

    Have you ever wanted to work in a Disney movie? I’ve always loved the idea of a bunch of people in a room animating together in the 80s, coming to each others little cubicle things for inspiration and partying after making huge hits. Of course, traditional animation is a pain what with the inking process, but why can’t Disney just do it digital?? Idk I just feel like they’re going too crazy with the 3d stuff and should have more variety…

  • @dork7546

    Why do you need to do it in Photoshop? There are plenty of programs out there that are much better now. Sounds like these studios are just ran by old people who still think Photoshop is the only decent art program out there.

    • @neutralbeige01
      @neutralbeige01 Рік тому +32

      it's industry standard. and for studios and companies that have employees all over the world, using one single program will help assets remain seamlessly within their projects without any room for error. "other programs" and the freedom to use them would benefit you only if you're looking to go indie or work solo. if you're looking to pursue work at a particular studio, knowing how to use the programs of their production process is basically bare minimum

    • @dork7546
      @dork7546 Рік тому +6

      @@neutralbeige01 I mean, I still think production would be easier if these studios were to require all of their employees, both in the states and overseas to use something like clip studio. But that's just me.

    • @andrea-kk5ml
      @andrea-kk5ml Рік тому +18

      well the employees themselves most likely aren’t paying for the program. it’s something the studio will give them access to under an organization. phtoshop, toonboom, etc are just the industry standard and are easier to learn as well.

    • @dork7546
      @dork7546 Рік тому +8

      @@andrea-kk5ml In my opinion, programs like Clip Studio and Paintool Sai are both easier to learn and also cheaper. But you're entitled to your opinion as well.

      @neutralbeige01 Рік тому +13

      @@dork7546 im a long time user of sai and i agree with you. sai is straight forward. no subscription, one time purchase with a permanent license. photoshop can be daunting. subscription with fluctuating price, usually pretty expensive for beginners.
      but again it's not really up to the employee. that's the key difference here; these jobs are equipped under the limitations of the company, which tends to only recognize the industry standard. id love, for example, a triple A video game studio to allow me to use procreate for my work but that's unfeasible for so many different reasons.

      Sometimes it comes down to file types. I don’t know if procreate can export to PSD, but if it can’t, that’s a nonstarter. Some of the other programs used by other teams might only accept PSD. That aside, if you’re intending to work for a major corporation, you won’t be and CAN’T be limited to an ipad- you will need to work on a PC.
