    You've got a great set of doors. Closing out the light is all thats needed, high strength doesn't do anything to make those doors do the job they're intended for any better. 👍🏻

    Cracking job Ann-Elin and thank-you for the detailed video so we can all follow along!
    I love to see a new way of doing things and it'll be interesting to see how it fairs over the season.

    They turned out great. If you want to smooth out the surface to get rid of the fiberglass texture you could try a fairing compound on the doors. Works great for most underwater Fiberglass repairs. You will have to repaint the doors after you sand the fairing compound flat.

    Great job, very innovative using the styrofoam core. Strip of foam would seal that gap between the doors.

    Nice doors! I thought the styrofoam might dissolve with the resin - but it didn’t!

    • @annelinsynnes
      @annelinsynnes  6 місяців тому +4

      Thank you! I know, I wasn’t sure if it was gonna work. Apparently polyester resin melts it but epoxy resin is ok. I tried to put superglue on there and it melted it right away.🙈

      @@annelinsynnes Polyester should be ok seems they have been doing it on surfboards for decades.

    I don't know if it's possible, or if security from thieves is even a goal, let alone attainable, but instead of having the hinges exposed, could they be positioned so that they're between the edge of the door and the edge of the companionway so thieves cannot access the screws when doors are closed? Cuz if they can get at the screws they can just remove the hinges and get in. If they're intent on it, they'll get in anyway, so maybe it's all academic.😅

    • @annelinsynnes
      @annelinsynnes  6 місяців тому +2

      Im not too worried about thieves around here 😅 if i ever sail it out of Skagerrak i will change that door! .. and the rigging… and get a new engine… and probably just buy a new boat 😅

    • @leecowell8165

      I don't believe she's very concerned about theft. Not everywhere is like it is here in the states.

    The clasic drop down wooden door is like that for lasting if wave should hit in to cockpit. Do you think your ligh-versions should do that, agains a small, lets say only 500 litres=kilos of moving power?

    • @annelinsynnes
      @annelinsynnes  6 місяців тому +1

      I don’t think that will ever be an issue for this boat 😂 but i would not cross the Atlantic with it, no!

    • @OKuusava
      @OKuusava 6 місяців тому

      @@annelinsynnes Yes. But now you can imagine why the original was what it was. We can always note, mainly motor boats, relying on car-like black rubber seals on windows. Many times those windows would not widstand even one litre milk can throwed in wihtout just flipping in the boat. You can feel it when jus pushing with you thumb a bit. They are just for a rain...

  • @leecowell8165
    @leecowell8165 6 місяців тому +1

    Commenters here gotta realize that this is her first boat which I believe is 24 feet. And its probably NOT gonna be her last boat. I think she's in Sardinia somewhere too where its pretty safe. This ain't the states whereby you gotta have a massive padlock on everything. So how about cutting her a bit of slack here...

  • @leecowell8165
    @leecowell8165 6 місяців тому

    Ann, Sam... hey I just read about an elderly couple sailing the North Atlantic atta Nova Scotia to the Azores. They never made it. Found deceased on their inflated life raft on an island a few days after leaving port. They probably died from dehydration is my guess. They stupidly removed their diesel engine and installed an electric one... powered by lithium batteries. I think they lost that boat via a lithium battery fire (the boat was never found). NOTHING is worse than a fire onboard in the middle of a big ocean! So please, PLEASE NEVER replace lead-acid with lithium! Once those fires start they create their own O2 and you can NOT extinguish them!

  • @mikeraphone785

    Good idea, but how did you lock the boat? and with the hinges screwed on that way couldn't someone just unscrew the door? But I suppose they could just kick it in also.
    At first I thought this was crazy but then i realised thats how they make surfboards so , well done

    • @annelinsynnes
      @annelinsynnes  6 місяців тому +1

      Haha that’s true, in case of breaking and entering it won’t stand a chance 😂 but this boat is just going to little islands and stuff in the backyard here, and the marina it sits in is very safe so no reason to worry about that really!
