For me personally, this was the episode that solidified Hange as my favorite character in AoT. Jean was brilliant but she also had some of my favorite scenes and quotes. Sometimes AoT fandom can treat Hange as “goofy comedic-relief character”. But since season 2 we saw how mature and wise she can be and it SHINES here. She is a mediator for the whole group and such a mum of the Scouts. “It’s silly to talk about the past when none of us were there”
Eren definitely convinced Jean to continue fighting during The Battle of Trost, but its ultimately Marco's death that pushes him to continue fighting. Jean "is" a selfish person, he wants to live a lazy life of luxury, but deep down he could never forgive himself if he sat idly by letting Marco's death be in vain. As he said when he decided to become a Scout: "Those ashy bones would never forgive me".
I wouldn’t say he is one, obviously you’re not saying that but I think a better wording for it would be, he WANTS to be selfish, and live an easy life but he knows he couldn’t live with himself if he did. I wouldn’t say he has been selfish since like s1.
I disagree a little here, because if Jean was truly selfish, he wouldn't give a damn about Marco and his opinion, let alone his "legacy". He's dead. He can't judge him. I think it is more the case of Jean being better than he himself gives him credit for. He had his dreams, but then reality happened and it all slipped away. He could've still had it, but that would've meant to become a person that he doesn't want to be. Marco sort of acts as his own conscience.
Nice interpretation about the branches :) If I'm not wrong, the general consensus on the back-to-back branch shots is to emphasize their location deep in the forest, and that after they'd finished their squabbling, they got out of it. It's an allusion to the whole 'get out of the forest' talk started by Sasha's dad and continued by Nicolo, Kaya and Gabi.
In Jean's fantasy you can see Mikasa's scar on his wife's face when she is playing with their baby. Whenever Jean is overwhelmed he tries to block everything out by holding his hands over his ears. You can see him do this twice in this episode (in the dormitory and again in the forest after he storms away from the campfire). He also does it on the airship after Sasha got shot when Flock asks if they should kill Gabi and Falco, and he also does it at the end of the Battle of Shinganshina near the end of season 3 (I believe its after his suggestion to not kill Reiner right away allows the Cart titan to steal Reiner away.) Magath talks a big game about his racist beliefs, but you can tell he genuinely cares about Gabi and feels genuinely bad that his actions have exposed those children to the horrors of war.
Marley brainwashed Magath as well. I do not believe he wanted/wants to do what he has been commissioned to do. You can see that in how he relates to Gabi. He sees her a a daughter figure, and in his own way he tried to protect her (and Falco). I think he has finally realized the errors of his and Marley's ways.
@@michellescott7516 Oh yeah 100%. Just about every Magath/Gabi moment throughout all of season 4 shows signs that his official position and his personal beliefs are VERY different. Especially if you include Magath's conversations with Willy Tybur.

They messed up. They watched this episode before 4x24. That's why they are so surprised to see all the crew together. You can tell by their clothes. That's their 4x23 clothes and we know they're often watch 2 eps per recording. I'm betting they will wear the same clothes in 4x26 as they did in 4x24 cause thats their next recording batch.
It's amazing how much people dog Reiner. He is one of my favorite characters because I can relate to him in ways. And I'm willing to bet that many who condemn him for what he's done are too afraid to admit the same because of their pride. I have heard you two mention Jesus a few times in your reactions, yet you don't seem to see how Reiner is reflective of Apostle Paul in the Bible. He committed ATROCITIES only to become one of the biggest witnesses for Christ. There is redemption and forgiveness. That campfire scene is one of the most powerful scenes in these series. In case some people failed to realized, everyone around that campfire is a sinner! Not one of them can point a finger at another without first pointing it at themselves. How telling of humanity! All of us! But what they did needed to be done in order to get on the same page with the same focus. The irony of it all, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." I guess when the world is threatened that is the only time everyone cooperates, but, sadly, once the world is saved will humanity go back to business as usual...hating each other for one ridiculous reason or another? Just sad considering we are supposed to be the most intelligent species on the planet.
Rewatching the series from Reiner’s perspective really makes u feel for him. Like the reveal of 2x6 makes u feel for what he has been going through, how much it hurts him, and continues to hurt him.
@@scy07 Hating people is wrong regardless. But I know that many people do hate others. They may hate Reiner for the suffering he caused, but they can chose to forgive. I also find it ironic that some people hate Reiner but love Floch. Are you kidding me?! To me Floch is no different than those he hate. Heck, if you took his guns, swords, and other weapons away, he would cower and beg for his life. His true colors showed when he charged into battle with Erwin and the others against Beast Titan. There is no honor in becoming a tyrant like your enemies. He is a coward with a gun brainwashed to believe that engaging in the same behavior as the enemy is noble. NOT! No more so than poor Gabi being brainwashed by Marley to believe what she "did" about the Eldians of Paradis. This show has really allowed me to see exactly how certain people truly are. I also had to take a long look in the mirror at myself because I did not like what I saw. This Anime is GOATed for many reasons.
@@alexgarcia7643 I agree. And when you think about it, "hurt people hurt people." Poor Reiner just wanted his father to accept and love him. This show also portrays the "one-drop rule." There are a few Marleyan-Eldians (e.g., Zeke, Reiner, and Annie), yet none of them is accepted by Marley because of their Eldian heritage. You're not truly Marleyan unless you are full-blooded Marleyan. So reflective of real society.
No one could imagine they would get together but only possible cuz if erenif you think about it...arming wanted to talk since so long but now Marley in danger we talk altho it looks exciting it's frustrating thinking this would not happen I mean rumbling if they listened before and now they go to save the world against even.

EREN and Rainer are my favourite in aot 😢l feel sad for them all did bad things
Seeing jean look at marco always breaks my heart 💔
One of my favorite moments in the entire show, “Hange san, I’m forever a scout” maybe the most beautiful episode at least with the colors/shots/music

GENOCIDE IS WRONG!
Mum of the scout. Perfectly describe! I am thingking the same as you !!!! This is why she is so precious ever since she became the commander

@warhammer101 thats why i put is in quotes, but you're absolutely right. "Wants to be selfish" is better wording :)

Jean has now made his decision. "I'm forever a Scout", he said. Marco would be proud.

me, back at the screen: 👈👀👈
Jean beating up Reiner was exactly what both of them wanted in order to heal from Marco's death. Jean wanted justice, Reiner wanted judgment.

Blouse said.

I relate more to armin. And people finding him weak but i find him more logical and smart
Very happy they gave Floch the bierber haircut, easy to dislike.
This show gets me in my feelings!😢
