I rather be driving those IMSO GTO than 2020 NASCAR. They are beautiful machines especially Audi Quattro, Nissan 300ZX, and Cougar. Timeless elegance design and the performance to match.
I was there! My favorite race track. I think this was the same weekend Jaguar brought the one week old XJR-10s, with the twin turbo V6, that replaced the naturally aspirated V12s. Beautiful cars. What a great era to be a race fan.
I was at this one and the Quattro turbos were real screamers. They came over the left hand turn hill leading into the esses and were absolutely glued. Waste gate chirping, flames shooting out the sides just a wonderful time.
Everyone bless Hans Joachim Stuck. He was a great driver. And every interview with him was funny and insightful. Hans is a man I would hug. He knew what he was doing, and was smart enough to joke about it. Where is the Hans Stuck channel !
Make the channel.. saw him AvD a couple weeks ago. Speaking with someone in the Team Mücke tent. Think it was Manuel Reuter... he looked jolly.. They have one of his race cars still. A Opel Calibra DTM. Another team had the Rörhl Audi 90 GTO, so saw it raced. Very very loud turbo sounds.. and a ferry size exhaust.
You are so totally clueless. They were good yes but GTO leveled the wt between the makes and the Quitters, excuse me quatro was a good second place car. They chose not to come back.
Totally not, had the audi team contested the full season they would have taken both the drivers and manufacturers titles. If you watch the races all the pit interviews are mainly the other drivers making excuses as to why they won't be able to compete with the "all wheel drive audi's". Considering it was a development year for the car its no surprise the sports car club of america recognised that once properly dialled in the audi would be unstoppable the following season.
Why so butthurt? Audi dominated the TransAm series before which resulted into a rule change. In 1989 Bishop sold IMSA GTO Series. Audi won 7 out of 15 races even they entered the series 2 races late, so your "good second place car" argument is rubbish. They did a good job.
Around 1:00 First time I ever heard 2-time IMSA GTO champion Steve Millen speak. Such a great racer, too bad his career would end at Road Atlanta just a few years later.......
*THHHHHHHHHHANNNNNNNNNNKKKKKKKKK YYYYYYYYYYOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!* I was about to get this exact race in a trade that hasn't been completed in over three years, but you saved me! I've been looking for this and other races from this season and the 1988 Trans-Am season as well. Do you happen to have other full races to post from this great season, including the Sears Point and Mosport races, as well as the season finale at Del Mar?
42:11 talking about the latest telementery computers "not sure if I like it Bob, seems like it's taking away the human element of racing" Hahaha, good ole 1986
This track is Insane! I have a track like this about an hour away from my house. Millville Motor Speedway or South Jersey Motor Speedway. I got to go see it person, I will want to race tho
Stuck was about to smash into the slower running Porsche 944, went right to avoid it, and Dallenbach was already out in the grass by that point. Had Stuck not avoided the 944, he would've smashed it.
The computer in your car right now probably has enough to power everything in these cars. They have switches for fuel pressure and air. Did you see the dial that you turn to get the right functions??
I wish Willy T would have just stuck with Trans-Am and IMSA. The races were so much better when he was in the field ... I get it though, he was chasing a dream
Nothing special about the Audi, they let them have every fucking rule to their advantage for a huge check to infuse a dying series. Then when the rules change they leave like a dog with its tail tucked... Any car that dominates from the start in any form of racing, just follow money that will give your answer

Watching and enjoying racing from 6 years before you were born is really a strange experience :P

I remember talking to Hans and Derek Bell in the paddock on the Friday before the race.

The quattro turned up, wiped its arse with the imsa gto competition then wasn't invited back the following year. Owned

58:31 min
Dallenbach said Hans pushed him out ? thats wrong, they didnt even touched each other 17:01 min.
or tried he to evade ?

I was at this race!!!!
Peak American racing.
Also, Audis so loud you can’t hear the Cougars over them.
Until I watched this, I thought the (over) use of the French word 'sans' by English speakers was only a relatively recent phenomenon.
...still amazing 👍
how the audi destroyed the field holy moly
