35 Upcoming RPG Releases for 2023 (JRPG, ARPG, Tactical RPG)
With so many RPGs coming out in 2023, it’s hard to keep up to date with all the releases due out. 2023 promises to be an amazing year for RPG fans, so I wanted to share with you 35 RPGs (mainly focusing on JRPGs, ARPGs and Tactical RPGs) that you could potentially add to your own wishlists!
For the sake of brevity, I’ve kept descriptions of each game short and concise otherwise this could have ended up at around 30 minutes, hope you enjoy it!

All I can say is thank you all for being patient. I finally got my system back today, hopefully for the last time.
I plan to get 1 more video out before I leave for Christmas, and in that I want to give you guys the full rundown of everything that's happened in the past 4 months or so, as I feel I owe an explanation at the very least.
Anyway due to the lack of time that I have left, there won't be a news summary for November or December (sorry Ys X). But I went with the next best thing, I'm hoping that this will give you guys a fairly succinct summary of the English RPG releases that are coming out (at least for now).

That's perfectly fine. I may have been waiting for those videos, but the more important thing is that you are doing well enough to do videos at all. But damn, there are so many great RPGs releasing next year. It's insane! And next year is also a really great year for Anime as well. 2023 is turning out to be insanely great for both JRPGs and Anime. I will spend the weekend playing Cold Steel so I can finally start playing Cold Steel 2 sometime next year. I already played Zero and Azure via the Geofront patch but I will sure as hell buy it again! But damn, some amazing games are coming out and my favorite anime has it's second season airing too. And of course Ys X. Us JRPg and anime fans are eating good next year. See you soon and merry christmas.

I’m very excited for Sea of Stars. What that company did with the messenger was so much fun. Not even a big fan of the genre, yet that game an indie was my GOTY
Mitsuda doing the soundtrack is such a big bonus as well
The Messenger is one of my favourite games of all time.
So much to look forward to between now and next year. Top picks for me are Trails, Ryza, Neptunia, Fairy Fencer, Suikoden. Also excited for FF pixel remasters finally coming to console and the news of
YS X and Felghana which I hope comes to the west and opens the door to release all the previous Ys games for modern consoles.
I expect to at least see them all on Switch if I'm honest, Falcom are pushing that platform hard.

2023 is going to be crazy. Trails, Like a Dragon, Final Fantasy, Suikoden Remasters, Eiyuden Chronicle, Stellar Blade, maybe finally Sea of Stars and Granblue... Just to name my big ones. How am I supposed to find time for all of these games and my backlog is already huge. :O
That is such a stellar list of games, one after another. I cant wait to see how this next year turns out for JRPGs because there is a lot of meat on the bone next year for sure!

Excellent list even saw a few I didn't know about! I do want to mention Sacrifire by pixelated milk, they are also planning on 2023 release.
It's nice to see a resurgence of tactical RPGs, and that so many of all the games in the video will be available on the PC.
Good games are back. Check out the RTS coming out in the next few months.

Thanks for another great video. I'm gonna have to watch it again later to takes notes on the ones that really stand out to me (besides Trails that is of course!). All I can say right now is that my wallet is crying lol
some good titles in there. happy i'll get much to play in the coming months, with ryza 3 and trails to azure finally unlocking myself to start the cold steel series. still working on trails from zero, though that's likely gonna be finished soon.
Next year seems to be packed I can't think of another year that I've ever want to buy that many games at least 10 of what you mentioned I want.

Stellar Blade has piqued my interest, it looks really good visually and combat is so smooth!! Definitely gonna check it when it releases.

Man, there's lots to look forward to! I'm excited to see lots of turn based games coming out too. Really looking forward to Fire Emblem and Fairy Fencer.
I am looking forward to One Piece Odyssey, Trails into Reverie, Stellar Blade, FFXVI, FF7 Rebirth, Nayuta Boundless Trails, and the Suikoden remasters. Next year is packed with JRPGs. Still trying to finish Star Ocean Divine Force. I'll finish it next week. Thanks for all you do in delivering JRPG news.
Hey TKN -- just a quick note, Chained Echoes is AMAZING. As many of your viewers are already commenting :) Personally am about 5 hours in, so far it's literally the perfect retro JRPG. Our game tastes are pretty similar, I think you'd like it (as would many of your viewers). Thanks again for your amazing work!
A lot of people are praising it, and it was on my wishlist anyway! So, all the more reason to play it soon. At the moment though my gaming time has been taken up by something else that I intend to finish before I leave.
@@TheKisekiNut Yep, but then after that! Anyway it's a really good game, at least the first five hours. Relatively cheap too ($25 in the US), should probably be on every retro JRPG fan's Christmas list honestly (esp because multiple platforms). Only problem is no physical release so do you put a discount code under the tree? Ha. Anyway just thought I should let you know. Thx again for the great content!
@@Ronjonbify do note that its on gamepass aswell so if you already have that or are intrested in other gamepass games its most likely better to get gamepass for a couple of months

@@Ronjonbify For what it's worth, it's one of the few recent JRPGs with a story that kept me engaged all the way through. Got quite a few where i just got bored in the last chapter or two. It'll throw surprises at you all the way to the very end, too.
mato anomalies looks interesting! I don't know much about Prime matter games or Arrowz but I get a clear AI Somnium/Spike Chumsoft vibe
I had no idea Grim Grimoire had something coming out for it this year, thank you for sharing. Looking forward to ff7: Rebirth, Suikoiden 1 and 2 remastered, Eiyuden Chronicles, and Sea of Stars myself.
The day I watch an "upcoming RPG" video and see Ys 1 coming to Switch...that's gonna be a good day.
Grand blue fantasy relink is my most anticipated game for next year

Stellar Blade does not deserve to be on this list though since its a story driven action adventure not a jrpg, arpg or a tactical rpg
Grand blue fantasy relink has been in development for so many years now. I hope they release it next year.
It’s amazing how stacked January is of all months. I’ll probably get everything except P4G and Monster hunter (already have)
I'm really looking forward mostly for Fire Emblem Engage, Fairy Fencer F and Granblue Fantasy Relink from the list, but also Baldur's Gate 3 and Redemption Reapers.
Can't wait for Disgaea 7 at the end of January hehe, already ordered it and Ryza 3 :D. Next year will have a lot of great games!

one of the most highly anticipated RPG game for decades is releasing next year and it isn't even listed, y'know this little D&D game called "baldur's gate 3?" or never heard of it?

P4G is planned, Trails Azure/Reverie, Eiyuden Chronicls and Loop 8 are all preordered. Digimon, One Piece, Monta, Suikiden are all calling me too.
And one more games, there is Tactical RPG too is called Redemption Reapers..it's look great IMO
Year 2023 is looking great for RPG lovers.. Hopefully everything is as scheduled, and those without release date yet can be released ASAP.
I have a feeling Suikoden Remaster gonna have similar release date to Eiyuden..

I already played Azure with the Geofront Patch but it would be nice to give the game another go with the official localization and then the real hype for me Reverie.
Persona 3, heck yea, really wanna play as the FeMC, also i thought Persona 4 Golden was already released on PC, whats the difference with this? Same with Agarest War.
Honestly Grand Blue Fantasy was delayed alot, hope the wait is worth it, its a pity all FF titles coming out are only for the PS but i dont mind the wait if it means SQ can have the time to properly optimize it for the PC.
There are 2 games i wish for a remake or remaster, Breath of Fire 1-4 and Legend of Dragoon.
Indeed Golden is already on PC - I think it's the same version as the one being ported to consoles. Agarest is also on PC, not sure how the Switch version will be changed though.
Nayuta is also already on PC. And i certainly wouldn't say no to those remakes either, but sadly Capcom seems to hate the BoF series.
Holy crap, if all these games including FF7 rebirth actually come out in 2023, it will become one of the best year for RPGs in quite sometime.

So, regarding Trails of Reverie , its the final game I think but are the games that you need to play also available on ps4/5? I don't really know how Sony does it with ps4 and ps5 games, since I will get my end of january. Can I still play PS4 games on my PS5? Since I got a lot of those niche games on ps4 and would like to pick them up on ps5 again. And do I need any prior games to play Of Azure?
Man, I really need to get cracking on Trails. I'm at the beginning of Azure, and then I have the entirety of Cold Steel to play before Reverie comes out.

I wonder if they will remaster suikoden 3 as well, since there is a save transfer from 1 to 2 to 3 in the originals

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty also comes out in couple of months. PC,Xbox. PS4, PS5 and shows up on gamepass day 1 so for me the gamepass already paid itself back for the coming year.

Bruh, next year looks amazing. I can't wait to start the year with more Ryza and later on in the year i will be playing Suikoden 1 and 2.
There is a lot to look forward to that has been announced in the upcoming year, though I am still holding onto some small hope that Atlus will bring Shin Megami Tensei IV to modern consoles as part of the SMT 35th anniversary.

I’ve personally never played Danganroppa, but the art style alone made me excited for Master Detective Archives: Raincode (that’s a mouthful)
I rewatched this on thursday to make a list with all the RPGs I'm buying next year. With some of them habving to wait, because I can't even make the time to play what I already have. But at least I have a list now. Just need to wait for the dates. So many great RPGs coming out next year. And lots of great Anime too. 2023 seems to be a great year for RPG and Anime fans. I'm also really excited for the Cold Steel Anime. You should totally watch that one. It seems to fill the gap between CS 2 and CS 3. I'll be binging after playing Cold Steel 2.
Thank you for the list TKN! Oh my word we're going to be eating good in 2023. My standouts:
1. Sea of Stars - this just looks to me like a game that stand to be a masterpiece, and my single most anticipated title.
2. Trails into Reverie - I'm a Trails fan first and foremost and ready for more! (Already played through Zero and Ao)
3. Octopath 2 - Loved the first one, I'm sure I'll love the second.
4. Eiyuden Chronicle - Similar to Sea of Stars, this just looks like it has every reason to be a massive success.
5. Suikoden I and II - Masterpieces each of which I've beaten numerous times already. VERY ready to play them both again - in their new forms!
P.S. - If you haven't added Chained Echoes to your backlog I HIGHLY recommend it!

I probably will pick Persona 4 Golden, Trails into Reverie and Fire Emblem Engage (I even pre-ordered the standard version of Fire Emblem Engage). I had lots of game to play, but that's the price I had to play for buying Nintendo Switch.
i havent seen anyone talk about the game chained echoes. its a really good jrpg.
its one of the betetr games ive played in 2022. any turn based fans should check this game out as its on gamepass and steam.

Welcome back, there are just too many game to play next year, both JRPG and non-JRPG. It is unlikely most of the JRPG on the list i will buy right away, but these will be top of the list, no matter what, Ryza 3, trail into reverie and maybe FF16, if i get PS5 next year. I am planning to buy some game on Christmas sale, like FF7 remake, Ys9 (last YS to play) and atelier sophie (if it go on sale), plus I bought 13 sentinels (switch version) on black Friday deal to play through. The game I am most looking forward is non-JRPG Legend of zelda: tear of the kingdom, so hype for it!
Im interested the most for Agarest War but its not on PS4 😩

Good to see more games coming for the PS4. Sucks that FF7R part 2 won't coming to the old console. Oh well, as long as there still games to play, I am not in the rush to get a PS5.

Trinity Trigger is on the list, Redemption Reapers didn't have that JRPG feel so I didn't include it.
Looking forward to Tales of Symphonia, Atelier, Pixel Remasters (again), Octopath Traveller II, Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth ^.^
I look foreward to the sequel to Fuga Melodies of Steel.

If Octopath Traveler 2 mix the old characters with the new ones later down the game that will be Epic.

Games I never got to play being ported with Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and Tales of Symphonia Remastered! More lovely thighs that save lives! Octopath Traveler II trailers are making me salivate over that full OST. Three God Damn Trails Localizations!!!!! Bagging waifus to sire your heirs in Agarest, yes please. More Vanillaware remasters of beautiful 2D artwork!!! Even the games I didn't really know anything about look fascinating - that Mato mystery game and Eternights look surprisingly good. And yes, Stellar Blade, truly fantastic culture in that game. Happy to have you back! Sorry the English were knocked out of the Cup, you deserved the win over France.
Since Trails into reverie and Trails of azure are released to the west next year i hope Kuro will follow the year after. I 'm still puzzled Kuro 2 is realesed in Japan before Kuro 1 in the west.
We are seriously lagging behind in the west. It's 3 games already at this very moment (4 if you also count Azure). Sure those Crossbell has been done also, and that would also take resources and time, but they had the advantage that these games already had a relatively decent translation by those Geofront guy's. That must have shortened the development time at least a little. Anyway - I really do not hope that Kuro will take another several years to come to the west. let's hope those game will both be released end 2023, or somewhere in 2024.
Lots of games on here I'm really looking forward to, at the top would probably be Like a Dragon: Ishin, been waiting for it to come west since I saw the Japanese version. It's also a remake of the original game, not a remaster. FFXVI is looking incredible, can't wait to play it. Lots of love for Trails fans in 2023 as well. So happy seeing Front Mission come back, it's my favorite SRPG series.
Where is Forspoken on this list? It's an RPG too. While I don't believe Stellar Blade is an RPG, it's an action game with more in common with DMC or Bayonetta.
Just give me Stellar Blade that game looks sick asf.
Xenoblade 3 expansion is coming at the end of the year too, certainly a stand alone like Torna.

Looks like 2023 is gonna be another banger in the world of RPGs. Switch seems to be the standard bearer for RPGs now, but it is nice to see Xbox making a decent showing, too
