  • We leave Spanish Wells and head down to Eleuthera. We find a great Anchorage, next to Lenny Kravitz's property, however, our generator breaks down and we have to find a marina. We find a fantastic, family owned marina at the Cape of Eleuthera.

    We're currently in the BVI'S, watching one of your fellow utubers with his brand new Cat that's here. Swear he's had as many issues with his new boat as you have with your classic.
    B. O. A. T. (bring on another thousand $) glad you take it in stride, 👍.

      We hear that a lot. Some people think we only have problems because our boat is old. In reality, all boats have problems, and ours more so because of how many miles we put on it every year. Fortunately, I can do a lot of the repairs myself.

    • @carlrhodes9040

      Yup, we also own an older vessel and you're way ahead of the game by being able to effect most of your own repairs. Vintage Hatteras's are outstanding, seaworthy vessels. If you own a boat, not "if" but "when" something will break. Loved the MaGyver like fuel pump fix, ingenious! Be safe!

    Eleuthera is my favorite place I’ve ever been. My Uncle was Married there a couple decades ago approximately 60 friends and family were there with us. At that time it was not a tourist destination it was rare to see anything other than locals. Another trip when I was there a hurricane was coming met a Gentleman that owned The Duck Inn JJ could tell I was concerned about the bad weather coming our way and said the Inn is built of stone and could withstand most anything. He said come stay with me you’ll be safe. The owner cooked steak and seafood opened up his bar and we rode out the bad weather together. What great people on this island well worth the trip. I’ve heard one of the cruise ship companies bought part of the island not sure how much that will change the atmosphere.

      Nice story. Yes, Disney bought part of the island. Close to Cape Eleuthera. There is a lot of construction going on, but it is a tiny part of the island.

    Nice video. Your anchorage looked sublime. I think the Cape Eleuthera marina and a huge swath of surrounding property may be owned by the DeVos family, founders of Amway.

      Could be. Perhaps the people who said they were owners are part of that family.

    And the good, assertive DUAL Roger Out @ 9:16 did not go unnoticed! Dual Roger Out's are just super... MORE than twice as good as a single, really! Yay!

    hello. Randy and Susan here. we are new fans. we found your channel, and we have been power watching your videos every night ever since. it's funny we found your channel right before we took our boat to the bahamas for a nice cruise. anyway, we were wondering how you show your boat's route on the map? BTW, we live on the Banana River in merrit Island, and we look forward to seeing you at anchorage someday. thank you for the great content.

    Ed, how much of this season's unexpected repairs do you chalk up to leaving the boat unattended for so long in Titusville this year vice taking it north where you could run it a bit more at the end of the season and beginning of the season before jumping off to the islands? I think your decision to keep the boat in T'ville over the winter was a wise decision, so much less wear and tear on the boat, not to mention the $$ saved in fuel. Perhaps a little more local sea trial time when you come south after tax season to get the bugs out before pushing off shore?

      Just the algae. We always have a bit of an algae problem, even when we left from Philly, but it usually just required me to change the racor filters after about 500 miles. This year it appeared to be worse. We used algaecide before closing down the boat for the winter but apparently not enough. The bad fuel pump was an indirect result of the algae (me blowing air through it). The only other thing might have been the stuck transmission shifter needing to be lubricated.

    We are looking for our next boat, a larger boat. I never see anything large in these videos. Looking at something with a 6.5 draft. Too big??

    • @tryingnottosink9107
      @tryingnottosink9107  10 місяців тому +1

      We tend to be a smaller boat in the Bahamas. Lots of mega yachts around. 6.5 draft is fine. Most of the sail boats are around that. Draft is not an issue anywhere we go. The ICW is a different story.

    Trying to avoid trespassing on Lenny Kravitz’s land?
    I heard the song start in my head
    “American woman, stay away from me
    American woman, mama let me be
    Don't come a hangin' around my door
    I don't want to see your face no more
    I got more important things to do
    Than spend my time growin' old with you
    Now woman, I said stay away
    American woman, listen what I say”

  • @searay7277

    As a boater with over fifty years of experience, I would say It appears your boat has reached the end of its useful life and it's time to get rid of it or go through a costly refit. Every episode is about repairs.

    • @tryingnottosink9107
      @tryingnottosink9107  11 місяців тому +5

      As a boater with over 20,000 miles under my belt, I can tell you that even new boats have repairs, and usually more costly. Total cost of repairs this year was less than $1000. A spent more repairing my brand new car. The reason many episodes are about repairs is because that is what many of our viewers want to see.

    • @searay7277
      @searay7277 11 місяців тому

      @@tryingnottosink9107Miles are meaningless, it's not the miles. It's the number of years the boat has been exposed to a salt water environment.
