Crazy cool to watch someone who knows what they are doing. I just put in a double check valve while converting my index sprinklers to electric solenoids. It took me all day. To top it off, it came with one off the test port screws vertical in the open position. I got blasted right in the face.
Steven, I agree with something one of the other commenters said: it's a pleasure to watch a soldering job being done properly. I enjoyed seeing that offset put together with the 45s, all soldered up smoothly one right after the other.
Like I have said before you sure get a variety of things to work on. Could you tell me why you need this backflow preventer device on a sprinkler system. Some sort of a check valve I take it. Thanks for the video.
do they have some sorta timer on the sprinklers or do they just turn the valve at the backflow preventer when they want to water? i replace alot of backflow preventers on commercial dish machines and laundry equipment etc, seems that they get limed up and stuck easily around here with our poor water quality.
there on zones and a timer .like 4 head per zone ..there could be up to 6 zones on some systems .there is a main distribrution box in ground out side with silinoids that controls the flow to zones
That was a great job to have gotten a call for, outside and peaceful with good weather, soft grass to kneel on instead of attics and basements to crawl in and decent looking plumbing to work on to boot. Were you working near an airport with light aircraft? I could hear one in the background.
Can somebody explain how the backflow preventer is useful ? First of all, in the normal condition, the city water has a 50 psi pressure preventing a backflow. Second of all, if something happens like the main water shuts off in the main line , the water inside the irrigation system cannot come back because first it's in lower level and second the irrigation valves are closed preventing the water motion.... It's an unnecessary device which usually breaks due to cold weather adding a burden on homeowners....
Steve Lav works six hours a day, then spends the last two hours of the day at yard sales looking for the "Trinkets" he uses at the end of his videos! :)
hows this an upgrade? you replaced something that need not replacing. Just needed a repair kit. would have taken you 5 min to install and the customer would of had a cheaper bill. Plus why add the 2 45's? why not add to the elbow up top and keep everything straight rather than making bends? prob to add to the labor and parts cost i suppose it you are a licensed plumber, thats how they roll. And winterized improperly? if it was winterized that part would have been the first part blown out. Maybe check the inside shut off valve instead, leaking past the valve refilling the backflow with water after winterizing seeing plug was reinstalled.
all that needed was a repair kit there was nothing bent inside that Back flow you screwed them! and it has unions on it all you had to do was unscrew it
+steven lavimoniere actually Phillip is correct and by ICC plumbing code you are required to install any outside irrigation assembly with unions for removal. Now if you don't live in an area where ICC is the code you can get away without unions but since it was initially installed WITH unions I'm guessing yours should as well. while a repair kit can sometimes repair an assembly I'm sure Steven inspected it and made the determination that replacement was the best value, right Steven? I do have one question; a quality installation includes a downstream blowout valve AFTER the assembly so as to not induce too much air pressure through the assembly, yet you did not include this. Why?
It's amazing how many people do not know how to prepare their outdoor plumbing for winter temperatures. Nice job Steve.
this guy did call the lawn guy to winterize the system something went wrong,it was not done right

thanks for commenting current
Is it just me, or is there something beautiful about a soldering job being done properly? :)
its a art ,,,,if you heat it to much you will cook the joint ,its all about getting it just right for the solder to flow but not to hot ,,to cook it
An artistic job would include not smearing solder all over the bend of the 45....
Easy money. That's a nice quiet location, all I hear is birds.
Nicholas CeeA it froze up over the winter ..never winterized properly
is that pressure reducing valve for the sprinkler only? if so is that the normal flow, pressure reducing valve going into a back flow preventer?
Like I have said before you sure get a variety of things to work on. Could you tell me why you need this backflow preventer device on a sprinkler system. Some sort of a check valve I take it. Thanks for the video.
its a redused pressure back flow preventer ,witch means its safe from back sucking back contaminated water back into domestic drinking water lines.
Why not install compression fittings so you don't have to cut it out the next time it needs to be replaced?
look out boys, he's got the torch again! ;) Nice Work Steven...
e77toe77 the torch is my friend gets me out of a lot of trouble
Nice job steven lavimoniere I don't do sprinkler system's, I would love to learn how-to!
steven what is your thoughts on residential-home fire sprinkler.
Great looking job Steve
thanks harry
Never to old to learn something new.
thanks for sharing this...
thanks for watching wink
Nice, didn't even cook the siding. What kind of torch setup do you use?
for plumbing ,,,turbo torch propane
what kind of torch is that?

it was out in the country beauiful day bird churping ,it must of just been a plane flying over thanks for watching bennett
make it look so easy!!
The code inspector at the end must have approved.
you know it always

Ali Moslemi obviously if you asking a question like that that means you are no plumber
Very helpful Angelo...
Why didn't you put a union vacuum breaker in. It would've taken 2 minutes.
How many times have you used that grit cloth dam, lol nice job
the sand cloth does not last to long ,that one is maybe a week old ,

don't be a hatter seeing your stuck in a dead and job and work crazy hours.i work less and make more :)

I agree on the 45s but the repair if it froze would not work. I like how he tightened the plug at the end with his wrench backward.
What type of pipe dope do you use?
swanell1 megalock
