Raspberry Pi Headless Setup - All You Need To Know
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 тра 2020
- *SORRY FOR THE WEIRD AUDIO HICCUPS, NOT SURE WHAT CAUSED THAT* If you don't want to buy extra components to setup your Pi, you can use this ultra-minimalistic method of setting up a Pi without the need of a keyboard, monitor, or mouse. It's called a "headless" setup. A headless Pi is where we will "be-headed"!!! Muhahahaha

Out of the 20+ tutorials I watched. Yours was the only one that worked! Thank you
I very much enjoy how info filled yet concise your videos are!
Straight to the point, just as it should be! You've earned yourself a new subscriber!
Wow I remember following this channel many many years ago, I think you taught me how to design a keylogger hahah, I remember the iconic large curser animations in the tutorials, which I’m happy to see still exist! Hope you’re well gigafide.
I call this tutorial. Thank you very much. I have watched many other videos, but they lack essential information. You have explained everything clearly and by demonstration.
I have needed this video for so long. I've asked so many how to set up a pi without a monitor to start. Everybody has always told me you can't even enable SSH without a monitor.
Damn. I've known this as long as it has been a feature. Welp, now you know
Missed you videos! Glad you're back :)
Fourth? :D It's good to see you making videos again man. Keep up the good work!
First time UA-cam recommandation works
You're video comes in right time
I ordered hdmi cable but because of pandemic it took 10-15
Now i can use this method...🙂🙂🙂
Nutty we missed you man and the videos. Good to see you are okay.
This is exactly what I was looking! Thank you!
This will definitely help me setup my pi a lot faster. Thanks!
Nice one. Quick and dirty. No, quick and easy. Thanks for the wonderful, straight forward, examples.
Thank you so much for this video. I was struggling to ssh into my pi for soooo long. In the end, my mistake was the files had the .txt extension.
So nice and streamlined, thank you verry much !!
I enjoyed watching this video. 👏🏻 Thanks. 👍🏻
You can use SSH in CMD now, on newer builds at least. Also the audio seems to be a bit jumpy
I still keep coming back from long ago watching!
thanks man it was really helpful!!!!👍👍
for anyone who's getting error or cant get pi online. the wpa_supplicant and ssh files dont need to be added if you go to advanced options and select the wifi while flashing the os from the raspberry pi imager (with ctrl+shift+x)
Your pace, video and the music matches perfectly lol.
Long time no see! Missed you man!
If anyone else was having issues connecting to the internet and is using windows, you have to change the line endings to LF(the char used to end lines in Linux), you can do this in notepad++ or any code editor.
This is exactly what I wanna look! Thank you
best video out there for headless thanks.
Good to see another video! Couple optional things to add, recent builds of windows 10 have SSH built in, also, I think Raspberry now has an official program to download and flash Raspbian or select other OS options to an SD card. Just an option.
At least one guy says Etcher is better than Raspberry Pi's downloading tool. Most people think Etcher is the best downloading tool for any OS and i may agree.
Wow. That was so in-depth.
Great video! ^^ very helpfull
A very useful video. Thanks
omg thank you so much you helped me a lottttt👌🏻
he's back! Noice :)
Great video! Thanks.
Hey, Tinkernut, I’ve watched a decent amount of your videos. Any chance you’d be able to do a video about the vulnerabilities about IPhone and how to be more protected?
Thank you! Very helpful
My Raspberry Pi is on it's way. Can't wait to apply this!
You tried ?
@@simpleguy9334 oh yeah, I did. it works.
@@Abdullah-cm1tn as I am new to pi world, can you share some resources that you find extremely useful (if any)...otherwise utube is always there :)
@@simpleguy9334well, I only watched this video for the headless setup and it worked for me. I don't have any resource on the top of my head, rn 😕. Hope u get it working soon, all the best!
@Tinkernut Bro, @3:25 you've used a Power Bank to power Raspberry Pi 4 right. Instead, can we use a USB Type C Cable & connect Raspberry Pi 4 to the same Laptop which can access Pi remotely to power Pi 4 ??
Thank you really much for great tutorial, one thing i couldnt connect or ping "raspberrypi" because there was an error all the time even when i connected it via wifi or ethernet, i needed to plug in hdmi and check the IP for the connection manually and then connect to this specific IP.
hmm this is interesting, would it be possible to game from this? while on the same network, i assume it would be easy to add a Wake On Lan in the front of sthe script too
FYI OpenSSH is enabled by default in power shell. So putty is optional.
thank you, really helpful
For anyone who wants a gui for the changes. The raspberry pi imager has an option to put these infos in before u flash it.
Dude I haven’t watched this channel since years like at least 5
Cool tutorial :)
ooo.. I didn't know about xrdp, thank you!
Yay! The animation is back. What software you use to create these animation
Thank you very much 💪🏻✌🏻
Adding ssh to the boot folder is normally enough, you can do the rest with ssh. I recommend to do it headless, cause with a non english keyboard you suck entering raspi-config cause the - isnt where you think, and the z and y is also mixed up while entering standardpassword. By default it gets a dhcp ip and if mDNS works on your router rasperry.local (if i remember correctly) works fine.
This is exactly how I set up my friend's Raspberry Pi 4 few weeks before.
This worked amazing, thank you. \
Thanks man
Thank you.
thanks mate, also it wasnt working on my wifi and the pi was disconnecting again and again from the wifi so i tried it using the ethernet cable and it worked
Still helpful. Thanks
thanks a lot!
Can you please help. I can't get sound and the video is very choppy running Raspberry Pi 4B headless thru Windows 10 Remote Desktop, by the way I get sound and very good video thru RPI4 hdmi.
Thanks
Joe
great video
can anyone here recommend any links for config file setups ? i've had trouble getting mine to - reeboot after changing prefs...
Hi. Thanks for the video! It was very useful! I'm having an issue. After turn it off and on again (after a few hours), now when I connect via Remote Desktop, it only appears a black screen (but I can still click on right button to open some programs). Please help
How did you turn it off? If you just unplug the power supply, you can corrupt your SD.
I
Hate
That
So
much
I tried everything but it just wont work. Or are things different with the Raspberry Pi Os now???
i had to come back and say thank you for helping with this tutorial! it worked amazing
Is there a way to open a browser on a headless raspberry pi while I ssh into it?
I'm a stickler Meeseeks, you still needed a keyboard, a mouse, and a monitor
Is it possible to do a headless set up on an older RPI 2B? Is it possible with just a USB connection between my laptop and Pi?
You can use a spare Ethernet cable to connect your Raspberry Pi to your wi-fi router. (Although you could also use a supported USB wi-fi adapter.) You won't need the wpa_supplicant.conf file anymore since you won't connect to wi-fi (if you're using the Ethernet cable).
You just need to add a empty "ssh" file to the boot partition to ssh into your pi. Just install VNC (and enable it) or xRDP if you want a full graphical desktop.
Then you should be able to use SSH, VNC, and/or RDP the same way after setting up what you want up.
Dude I required this a few months ago!
Most heinous
I required this years ago. ._.
You can use SSH on the command line in windows 10 since 2017 too.
KindaHOT 🔥🔥
Great tutorial, as usual. Maybe you can slow down the narration so will be ease for we, the old guys. Thanks
You can adjust UA-cam's playback speed if you need to. 0.75× works for me.
Will this headless connection work for Rasp pi 2 ?
I dont think that pi has wifi. You'll need to connect it your router with an ethernet cable and also you won't need the .conf file since that is for wifi only. Just plug it into your router and skip the .conf step but you will need to create the SSH file
Is there a way to change the hostname before boot?
currently no. It's sad that such essential functionality isn't there, but here we are
Well, there are ways to do that. I usually edit etc/hosts and etc/hostname on the sd-card or usb-stick (rootfs) before the first boot.
im having trouble with remote view, it says connection failed when i put pi then my password
it didtn work because i guess i didnt wait long enough for it to connect, id say wait about 30 minutes hahaahahahah fml
my pi delete wpa and ssh file when its getting onn and not connect to my network.
i seen it when i insert sd card back to my pc after not connected.
help me plez.
Edit : - problem solved i just put group line in down :)
anytime I have an idea I want to try I know Tinkernut has my back!
And just like that, 8gb ram RPi comes out!
Pls make a video on LattePanda
Try to take this comment to the top.
Sharad Kumar Singh What’s that?
Braxton Broughton I see. Just looked it up and it looks expensive but has a x86 cpu. Thanks for info.
Mine doesn't pick up the network(im using a mobile hotspot). ssid is correct and password is correct. Dont have a router at the moment. Are there settings im not aware of?
I have the same problem but don’t have but I can’t use hotspot
@@sirlancelotthegreat7453 I've been reading the forums and support sites but they basically give you the tutorial all over again. Working of Danny Staple: Learn robotics and code. Really need this to work
@@StellarArete did you solve the issue
Nice PowerPoint
i can't ping raspberrypi in CMD, unable to open connection to raspberrypi Host does not exist. pls advise
same issue. even tried IP Range Angry IP Scanner and cannot find?
@@randywebb8054 in my case, it seem there some corrupt file, then i use bootloader but you need empty flash disk or sd card separately. it works
SSH is built in on windows
Thank you for anice and informative video.. Sir in my college I have I have wifi user name and password along with the SSID (it's college wifi). kindly let me know how to modify wpa_supplicant.config foe my case... Thanks in advance
Why do I get permission denied when trying to ssh from my iMac to my pi? Using the default password
me too
Little fast but well done
what to do if i dont have a password on my router
To get the ip address of the Raspberry Pi, one could use 'angryIPScanner' app if that helps!
Good video but the filter in the screen capture is unnecessary.
What about the 8 gb ram one
I'm trying this on my early Raspberry pi don't know what number it is, it doesn't seem to do anything and all the files end up in 'overlays' am I doing something wrong? am new to coding to btw :D
Some of the earlier raspberry pi’s don’t have wifi look up a spec sheet and match what your pi looks like the closest to. I think below pi 3 has no wifi but I’m not sure
If you are on windows you can now use ssh (can't recall if you need to add any additional windows extension, but 2 years back there was an experimental extension to get ssh without putty)
Or better yet install Linux (i would suggest pop_os or Manjaro. Pop_is if you like Ubuntu community support (same branch), Manjaro if you like it with newer software)
indeed, ssh is a native app in windows
Where have you been hiding bud?
He's a father now so is probably busy.
@1:43
Though correct that allowing Windows to format the drive will corrupt (erase) the Raspbian image, it might be helpful to mention that if/when this happens you merely need to reburn the image to the drive with Etcher, etc. No permanent harm is done.
I'm not certain that this is still true under the latest Win10, but traditionally Windows has the *default* answer set to format *any* unrecognized partition, so simply hitting the [Enter] key after the dialog pops up will erase the partition! I've been complaining about this dangerous and idiotic "feature" for well over a decade .
Sure wish you'd said Windows in your title. I can't use half of this info
Im an absolute beginner to Raspberrry Pi. This tutorial is far too confusing I didnt understand it.
not working man
Turn down the music a bit, please.
i thought tinkernut is dead
you need to slow down but great video otherwise thanks
Second
The background music was really distracting
It's no longer rasbian. It's called pi os.
Raspberry Pi OS to be precise
"you can set up a raspberry pi without a keyboard and mouse."
*1st step* "use the computer you have to set this up"
🤔
