hi there could the last gummy smile be effected by scaring on the top lip? I got attacket by a dog when I was little and my smile is gummy and there is vertical scar in the middle of my top lip. I was thinking botox to reduce the amout of gum, but i'm not sure what i can do to improve the look of the scar and overall thinnes on my top lip. thanks for the information in your videos ! very professional. Allison
If tads can move the teeth up into the gum, and then elastics are added in order to keep the mandible from hanging low & preventing the eruption of lower teeth… then does the mandible change angles by the end of treatment/will this correct the vertical height of a patients face? Thanks!
Great question. You are describing "autorotation of the mandible." There are some practitioners who believe this is possible using TADs on the maxilla and mandible. It's tough to say whether that will bring about a noticeable change to facial appearance. For patients with long-face anterior open bite and gummy smile, usually jaw surgery will lead to the ideal esthetic outcome.
Got it! That can come from a number of things. There are options to improve your "smile display" if you're interested. Bring up your concern to an orthodontist and see if they can help. Good luck!
If the upper teeth are moved up, and the lower teeth are held up with elastics (or something) during the treatment (to stop the bottom teeth from erupting further in order to meet the top) then wouldn’t the mandible swing up to meet the top teeth in their new position by the end of treatment?
Control the smile, look in the mirror, don t smile with the mouth so open, with exercise You get used to, think that If You smile with your mouth not so opened You Don t get eye wrinkles that much, smile like a model, not like You re laughing at a joke, IT does work.
Thanks for the question! We'd suggest going back to see your orthodontist and let them diagnose the reasoning behind the gummy smile. Then they can walk through some options with you!
Helllo!can i ask how much is the cost of the procedure?
This is what im scared of because my gums look weird but thankfully lt dont show when i smile
Can the last case be treated by braces instead of Botox ?? As a person already has braces?
Hey John! I love the video! I’m having to present on gummy smiles with TADS and ran into this. Best luck to you!

I hv gummy smile and it's happened now what can I do
So what’s your suggestion for the VME case?
Consultation for orthognathic surgery.
Dr, the second patient smile is my case, does that mean I need to undergo a jaw surgery?
Thanks for the question! It depends on a number of factors. The best thing to do is see an orthodontist for a comprehensive eval!

As in, will the mandible swing up to meet the top teeth in their new position??

I’m sad 😞 I hate my smile
Aww man! Well orthodontics can certainly help improve it!
But how do you actually move a lowered jaw up?
Jaw surgery :)
TADs are an option too?

Hi, I got braces half a year ago because I had a overbite, and now after I got braces I can see that I have gotten a gummy smile. What can I do now?
