- Sometimes it is hard to find price comps for book reselling. Here are 2 examples I got from a local estate sale and how I'm pricing them. Enjoy!

I like to get boxes for less than 70 cents each (shipped), but it is getting harder and harder to do. The *** boxes are my favorites that I use the most.

Very good deductive process on determining the price of the Alexandria Louisiana history book! According to Worthpoint, a copy sold in 2018 and 2017. Both books were priced between $95 - $100. You might want to consider raising the price a bit more and see what kind of offers you get! P.S. Did Worf REALLY drink prune juice? ;-)
Thanks for that input! I may bump to $95. Worf really did like prune juice!!!!
@@curatorofthelostYou're welcome! Worf - You learn something new every day! ;-)
Along with the what you mentioned, I also use biblio. If still nada on the title, I will search author only in Tera. Then go back to the others if tera is nada. If nada across the board, i'll put keywords, genre, subject, type, etc in the title and start at $98 for 5-6 months. Look at the total views over that time and gauge a reprice from there. If over a year, and still only a few total views, it gets re researched and either major price drop or it finds the dump. I'll keep ~$40+ books for a a few years though.
Biblio is good- thanks for that!
There is a comb bound version of one of those books currently on eBay.
I have a copy of “The American Conflict” by Horace Greeley. But it’s both volumes in one book. I cannot find information anywhere on this version 😅 It’s driving me crazy!
Question about keywords!: what about using quotations around titles of books or movies. Does it matter? Does it help or hurt?
I read that it hurts- just put the title without!
Terrapeak is two years, it is excellent for sales data. Lots of unusual stuff hasn't sold in last 90 days, so the standard ebay sold search doesn't always work. On items that don't show up there, Abes books as you recommended can work. Lastly, if it doesn't show up anywhere, I just use my gut, go on the high end. If I am high, it won't sell and I adjust. This assumes none others are currently listed and not sold. If there are other listings, I'll under price mine to look like a bargain. Realize buyers will use some similar tools to see if they are getting a "good" deal, particularly Amazon and ebay last 90 days. Just sold a Waukegan, Illinois history book, out of print, from the 1960s. No sales history, listed for $48. Took over a year. Got full price. With books, you have to be patient. Sold an early Book Club Edition of Dune today. Another super long tail but got big $$. Kind of surprised a book club edition did so well, but the sales history supported it.
Dune is hot! I’ve sold those BCEs for good profit too. Check terrapeak- they have bumped it to 3 years.
Great video and great information. I have a odd question, maybe, what is the mentality behind pricing something at $49.99 compared to $50.00 or $28.45 compared to $28.00. I am a new reseller in 2024 and I have wondered if there is any buyer mentality when it comes to pricing and if they will go for a price that is not an even number. I told you this was an odd question! LOL! Love your channel!
I’ve often said the same thing. Why not just make it 50.00 or if it’s 29.99, 30.00. My way of thinking is people, including myself look at the first digit. 4 is less than 5, even though it’s a dollar off, it’s psychological. I would price it a little higher and deal with the customer if they’re serious. As always it depends on how long has it been sitting around too. Hopefully Shane will chime in. I’m always looking to learn.
As @jimwiskus8862 said- it is a pure psychological thing on the listing. Think of why big box stores price the same way. People look at that first number and it affects their value perception.
I will say when people make offers it is typically a round number. $20, $25, $28, etc.
Congrats on joining the reseller ranks!
Yes, I can see the psychological thinking in seeing that first digit in a price of an item. It does make a case for pricing something at $29.99 as opposed to $30.00. The $30.00 price seems more if only by a penny but more. Thanks for your thoughts!
That is interesting that the offers come in in round numbers. Thanks for the conversation, very helpful!
Great info. When you list eBay and accept best offers do you set a minimum offer, or do you allow any offers; and what are your thoughts on that?
Thanks. Great topics!
I just accept any offer. If too low I just deny flat out. If low but ball park I can counter offer. Works most of the time as long as I don’t get too many offers for 1-2 bucks. If I got swamped with low balls then I would set the minimum for auto reject but haven’t had issue with the interaction.
I also have a absolutely nothing anywhere book: Wes Daveys Memories - signed book. Very, very interesting fonts, styles, bind, etc. I called the historic society of that area. Not much known from there. The book is/was a local publisher [then]. And the entirety, if only one, had to cost well over $200 then to make, print, bind.
I have that at $1K. Gets its views; price keeps coming down every few months.
