For people having issues, here's the code you put in "Source Text" after you link it to the slider control ( if you renamed Slider Control to NUMBER like in the video then just change that part ). This also includes the bit where it gets rid of the decimals. num = effect("Slider Control")("Slider").value.toFixed(); function addcommas(x) { return x.toString().replace(/\B(?=(\d{3})+(?!\d))/g, ","); } addcommas(num)
This tutorial is 1000% better than I've looking for. I just needed this coma separator. But at the same time I learned some new small features. Like "press Enter to rename", or ctrl+alt+home to center the pivot point etc. Thank you! This tutorial is super useful to me!
Awesome tutorial, when I try and pick-whip the source text to the slider control, it erases the code in the source text expression box and inserts effect("Slider Control")("Slider"). I can't seem to integrate the code to auto-insert commas with the counter. What's going on?
Great tutorial! But what if I need only one number after comma and more numbers before? Like this - 325.1 I tried editing the expression, but nothing good happened. Could you help me? Thank you!
Great video. I'm always reminded of how much deeper my knowledge of AE should be. Also, for newer versions of AE, they changed the name of the "Numbers" effect. This is how mine is set up and working now. num = effect("Slider Control")("Slider").value.toFixed(); function addCommas(x) { return x.toString().replace(/\B(?=(\d{3})+(?!\d))/g, ","); } addCommas(num)
How does this work when you use a smaller number like 17,6 in the expression slider? I want to count from 23 to 17,6 but the "." doesn't get replaced by the ",". Only when using bigger numbers, it does work. Any help would be much appreciated!
Excellent tutorial. Straight to the point and goes over the 3 major elements I needed in the counter I am creating. I liked it so much I am commenting about it and I never do that.
This is EXACTLY what I needed to know!! Side note - is there any way to use expressions to bump up the scale to add emphasis when the numbers pass a certain point? For example, every 100k the text would scale up slightly? Thanks!
Hi, i found the simple easy way is to doublicate the numbers, for example: num = effect("Slider Control")("Slider").value.toFixed() * 2; function addCommas(x) { return x.toString().replace(/\B(?=(\d{3})+(?!\d))/g, ","); } addCommas(num) ------------------this example will give you 2 million as a maximum value--------------------------- and you can use this method to get any number you want, num = effect("Slider Control")("Slider").value.toFixed() * "HERE YOU CAN DOUBLICATE WITH ANY NUMBER YUO WANT"; so again you can just CHANGE the value to get more results, THANK'S.
Hello Sergey, I like your channel and what you do! I learned a lot ;) But I have one question. How do I can format a numbers like 65.550,4 Provided expression can replace "." with a "," only in the tens thousands. Thus final result can be 65.550.4 or 65,550.4 But I need 65.550,4 (first a point, then a comma). I'm trying to play with an expression, but still unsuccessful ;( I will be happy if you show how to do this, or maybe provide an expressions. Thanks
Hi! Thank you for this tutorial. Together with some tips and other tutorials, I got what I wanted with the code beneath. With "Number FUNNEL 1" being the name of the slider. The only problem is, I cannot seem to go up more dan 1.000.000 (one million). I'm no coder and a bit new in After Effects, but I really need my number to go up higher. Any tips on how to easily add something to my code to make the number go further up and not having to change all the work I've already done? Thanks for the help! num = "€ " + effect("Number FUNNEL 1")("Slider").value.toFixed(); function addDots(x) {
I would like to animate a number greater than 1,000,000. How do we do that? I tried adding value.toFixed(2) to have 2 decimal numbers, then I multiplied the result by 100. I got my counter working for numbers above 1,000,000 but unfortunately the number sometimes goes crazy with a lot of decimals. Any thoughts?
Thanks for the tutorial. But I have a question. Each time a number adds a digit (from 9 to 10, from 99 to 100), the number is shifted. I changed the position of the anchor point to the center, but it didn't help. What to do? Help with advice, please.
This was great! Is there any way to add also a symbol like $ at the end of the expression?

This expression is freaking gold! Thank you!

Glad to hear that! Thanks for giving it a try!
this was very helpful! thank you!
Brilliant! Very useful for our dynamic templates. Thank you again.
AMAAAZING, thank you!!
Great tip!
How would you do to avoid this width flickering when number changes?
Use a monospaced font.
Great tutorial! Like many others, it helped me out in a pinch for a project. Thank you for posting!
It was very useful for me, just replaced the commas for dots. Thank you!
How?
This is EXACTLY what I needed to know!! Side note - is there any way to use expressions to bump up the scale to add emphasis when the numbers pass a certain point? For example, every 100k the text would scale up slightly? Thanks!
This expression really helped with an animated graph I needed to make for a project.
How do you work with number greater than 1000000?
Hi, i found the simple easy way is to doublicate the numbers, for example:

addCommas(num)
------------------this example will give you 2 million as a maximum value---------------------------
and you can use this method to get any number you want,
num = effect("Slider Control")("Slider").value.toFixed() * "HERE YOU CAN DOUBLICATE WITH ANY NUMBER YUO WANT";
so again you can just CHANGE the value to get more results, THANK'S.
