    You sir, are a bloody legend! These are some of the absolute best tutorials I've ever come across, THANK YOU SO MUCH for making them! Not only are they really well constructed and easy to follow along, you're also an absolute delight to learn from. In all my years of learning to create with Adobe I've never found anyone else who makes me smile this much while learning what I can do with all the mystical treats these programs have on offer. Thank you for doing a bloody excellent job at being you and for taking the time to share your fabulous brain box x

    • @KurtisBenson
      @KurtisBenson 5 років тому

      @@ECAbrams A 3D approach would be super cool. There's always more than 1 way to do an effect depending on what you're trying to accomplish. I know there's a cool way of doing the trails with Particular but I haven't fully figured out how to do that.

    • @ECAbrams
      @ECAbrams  5 років тому +2

      @@KurtisBenson Ah! Then some #spoilers here, when we revisit this kind of thing we'll definitely be working in the particular aux-particle solution and probably a c4d lite approach for good measure.

      Depends. You can make any layer 3d that you want. Now, is that a stroke with depth? Not really. To make a stroke in 3d space as you would with a sweep in c4d for example is not natively possible and would need 3rd party plugins.

    Thank you very much for your answer. BUT... the first vertex is at its place at the beginning of the line. Nevertheless, the Null object-Trace path starts from the middle. It's driving me crazy!!! On top of this it appears and runs outside and far away of the line.

    • @ECAbrams
      @ECAbrams  3 роки тому

      When you look at the motion path of the null, how does it compare to the shape layer path? Could it be some scale and position change has taken place so the movement of the null needs to be moved and scaled down to match? Or the path needs to be moved and scaled up to match? It sounds to me like something is amiss like that.

    Hello Evan, Is there a way to have more control of the speed dot? accelerate and deselerate as it goes up and down? Before watching this video I was doing something similar by coping the path into the position of the dot, then I was able to manipulate the speed on the speed graph, but using this techique was making difficult to get the trim paths follow the dot movement

    • @ECAbrams
      @ECAbrams  4 роки тому

      Would it be helpful if the position of the dot was linked to percentage of the path? You might use the trace path function of the path to null script to do that.

  • @osfan25
    @osfan25 3 роки тому

    Love this method but I have a question: how do you zoom in without it becoming blurry? If you toggle the continuous rasterize button on the pre-comp, After Effects will look to see what is 3d inside the comp and you can't turn 3d on for the null layer because that screws everything up

    • @ECAbrams
      @ECAbrams  3 роки тому

      Depends. We may have to just solve for these things that get screwed up. What happened specifically in your comp?

  • @pixelthick
    @pixelthick 5 років тому

    In reference to the rectangles that float by, why separate the positioning between the anchor point and position key frames and not do it all with position?

    • @ECAbrams
      @ECAbrams  5 років тому +2

      we could achieve something similar with separate dimensions on position for sure. I prefer to use the anchor point incase I want to push the duplicates around in space without changing any keyframes. But there are no end of methods to employ in this regard. It also gives some interesting parallax should we scale these up and down since the anchor point is left in centre of the frame. But, it's not a method that works with everyone's concepts and workflows.
