Shops are not closed in early afternoon for resting, that's NOT a siesta. It is simply a way to limit working hours to a reasonable number, since most shops are very small and cannot afford to pay lots of extra hours or additional employees. Proof of that is that bigger companies such as supermarkets are open all day long.
Great one! Thank you very much Stefano 🤗 But still in Palau in Sardegna even the supermarkets were closed from 2pm to 4pm .... I was explained that they do have riposo in small places, and don’t usually work those hours of the day. Is this correct? ☺️
Yes, it depends very much on the area. You may also consider that, if in that time frame almost nobody is around, what's the point of staying open? It's better to save working hours for the moment they're actually needed. For example, in many touristic places in summer, shops are open after dinner, because people go out for a passeggiata. Basically the whole thing is just a different daily schedule for people's activities, compared to other places.

Been in Rome Five times. Go in the off season or better yet the shoulder season and know how much a cab ride should cost you as the cabbies will smile and screw you on the fare. The Antiquites are par excellence and walking at night brings so much of this to life. The window displays of stores are truly artistic but its expected that you dont just window shop. Stay far away from the gypsies and of course secure your valuables. As I remember there are tons of hotels near Termini but there is a good side and a bad side. Stay away from the bad side. Just my two cents. Ciao. PS The Gelato is the best you will have.
Ciao, Anna. A couple of observations. Regarding pharmacies being closed on Sunday, while in Venezia, my traveling companion was in need of medication for cramps. I learned from the gentleman running the pensione where we were staying, that there was always one pharmacy open. He checked in the local newspaper and discovered the designated pharmacy was just down the street. The other thing about pharmacies is that at least one of the pharmacists on duty is a doctor. So when I explained the problem, the pharmacist provided the needed medication on the spot. This is both handy and reasonable. Regarding indoor dining, this goes back 25 years, so I don't know how things are today. We did not know that smoking in restaurants was common. While enjoying dinner, we were soon surrounded by tables of smokers. We ended up bolting down our meal to keep from suffocating, and received disapproving stares for appearing to not savor our meal. From that point forward, we chose to dine only when an al fresco option was available. Grazie, e buona fortuna.
I travelled a few days in Italy. It's not easy to adopt to the italian codes in a few days but one can learn bit by bit. I do agreed with Anna. In Italy it is recommended that you eat italian. Every country I visit, I eat their local food. You won't believe. I was in the shabbiest restaurant in Asia. The restaurant had absolute no commercial potential. The locals ate there. I was the first white man ever to visit them. The owner sat with my table while I had my meal. In England I ate English breakfast. Not continental. In Europe, Italy is one of few countries it is hard to find food from other cultures. Italian food is a treasure. If you feel lost, just ask and follow the local traditions and you'll be fine. They just want the best for you and believe me, they won't disappoint you.
Thank you so much ☺️🤗🤗 I’m so happy you enjoyed it! I totally agree with you! When travelling its so good to enjoy real authentic local food ☺️ Honestly I don’t really get people who are ordering American breakfast in Italy 🙄 maybe I just don’t get it 🙂
