What a game. Szalami got a bit impatient and sacking his entire army to kill a single landmark ended up costing him dearly.
Almost willing to bet that playing the long game and slowly sieging down from a slightly safer distance, where you don't have 2 towers and 4 TCs shredding your units would have been a bit safer.
Also could have walled his opponent in.
But hindsight is 20/20 and Crackedy's tech switch to spears paid off big time.
Damn, Crackedy might be my new favorite player. He just pioneered a new mongol meta purely out of spite and protest. Gotta love it! lolol

I honestly think crackedy was prepared for rams. That swell of archers was garrisoned in the town centers originally, not villagers. To me that says hes prepared to use them as turrets while the villagers sack the rams. A ram force would be much slower to build/produce and far slower to move around. Making 6-12 of them might have been enough but thats a lot of time and a lot of wood, neither of which the attacker has in great supply. As a Rus player maybe you could do it thanks to the wood drop off bonus but other civs would massively lose out on the wood competition. The optimal play against this might be to delay, contain, and scale your own eco through trade or whatever other advantages your civilization has.
When Szalami was Castle he could‘ve just started trebbing it down

ironic that "trade enjoyer 1" didn't go for trade. szalami hit imp super fast but didn't invest at all into eco so once crackedy's vills hit that snowball it was over.
if szalami had gone for trade and used battering rams instead of just going for mass scouts, IMHO this game would have gone a lot differently. his trade would have been pretty much uncontested for the whole game and by using the battering rams to force the TCs to pack up he could have followed up with a surround from his warrior scouts
He got all tier 1 eco upgrades, got 20 cows + landmark, 4 pitmines. I'd say that's a solid eco investment for the malians. Their units are so cheap you rarely go above 100 vills with them.
Not sure how they could nerf spears. They do a lot of damage for their cost, but they have a *lot* of weaknesses. Cavalry is already extremely prominent in the meta and *always* has been, so I'm really not sold on a spearmen nerf.
What about a TC boom like this, but behind a small number of dark age horsemen to take early map control and try to collect some raid bounties, so the TCs could spread out to collect from hunts and boars with the improved Mongol Survival Techniques, and then move back together for defense if the enemy moves their army out? Would that slow it down too much or not help enough?

Seeing mongol meme TC's makes me think of how I always thought "The mansa quarry would make it really easy to go stealth 2TC without alerting your enemy to you taking stone." Like, you could legitimately probably make it look like you are doing an ordinary aggressive opening, but be building a redundant and well versed economy in the background.
Also "He's not using any eco bonuses," drongo. Malians gather cattle as fast as the boar, 0.9 food a second. If a dudes buying cattle to slaughter they are basically playing with imperial food villagers against your feudal food villagers.

Not gonna lie, I feel like 1 single ram would have ended crackedy's game.

2 or 3 rams would shut down this Mongol strategy so fast. If Mongol packs up the TC, then the garrison fire stops.
Maybe. That's 7-10 scouts worth of resources though, and vills do kill rams pretty fast so no guarantee the rams will get anything done.
@@emissarygw2264 30 scouts plus 3 rams is better than the 40 scouts and 0 rams that Szalami did. Villagers get killed when they try to kill rams that's surrounded by a big army. There is really nothing Crackedy could've done against 3 rams (plus army).
@@fupopanda You could be right. I'm definitely not an expert, I play at relatively low level (gold/plat). But I counted about 30 scouts, not 40, so its a decent impact on numbers. I also noticed that the scouts had a hard time killing vills quickly - they don't do the kind of damage knights do. And the 3-5tc production seemed to easily keep up with any villagers lost. So I don't think it's completely obvious that rams would have made it an easy win.
@@emissarygw2264 You don't need to count. The Caster mode UI shows you how many scout. About 41 scouts at the time of first main push

After hearing DeMuslim talk about getting into casting because the meta is very critical casters, I get it. Aussie is great but he is so damn fast at jumping to conclusions. If he hasn't seen it work, its a garbage strat.
