As a lifelong Hoosier, born and raised in the Circle City, I wanted to personally thank you for highlighting the city I love. Your video truly did my city proud. If you want the shrimp cocktail, Harry and Izzy's is a "sister" of St. Elmo's and has their signature shrimp cocktail on the menu. One tiny critique, though. I guess it's just a Hoosier thing. The Muesum of Native American Art spelled Eiteljorg, is actually pronounced like "Idol jorg". Named for Harrison Eiteljorg, a philanthropist who donated several of the artifacts on display there.
I was absolutely blown away watching this video! I had no idea about Indianapolis being this clean, manicured, beautiful and cool! I live in Arizona and have lived out west my entire life in other states so I have never been to Indiana.
You barely scratched the surface of the downtown area Mass Ave, Fountain Square, and the area just north of the circle has some beautiful architecture. Hopefully you will make it back soon.
Try walking the Canal on a nice weekend. Completely different experience. Loaded with walkers, bikers, paddle-boaters. Amazing experience. And all the museums and sites like memorials to USS Indianapolis and Medal of Honor exhibit along the canal are awesome.
In the mid-90s I worked at one of the state office buildings that sat right on the canal. Indy was just beginning its renaissance, thus I was able to experience the old and the new. The two or so years I lived there was the perfect time. Beautiful young girlfriend, season tickets to the Lyric Theater on the Circle, dear friends nearby from before my Indy sojourn, and my career advanced greatly. Thank you Indy - you were the best!

My biggest wish list for downtown Indianapolis is that the parking lots immediately north of the State Capital be filled with a mid to high rise development. It’s currently downtown biggest eyesore!
@@Prettyyellagirl22 it has grown on me. I want to move back to Tucson, but that has little to do with Indianapolis. It's the largest small town I've ever been to. Weber grill is a restaurant not a superstore. You were in the Arts Garden when you entered the mall. We’re you staying at the Westin or Wyndam because you said both. I assume the Westin since there is no Wyndham downtown.
As a California native, I’d love to visit Indiana :) I believe each state has its own pros and cons. And I just love how clean it looks. Not like ghetto DTLA 😅 Indiana has soo much potential. God bless the Hoosier state.
Your time would be better spent visiting many other states as options. Unless you’re just wanting to check it off a list.. I don’t see much reason to make a trip here. If you do more research, you’ll see that there’s not much going on here.
Someone else already said it but the Weber Grill is a restaurant not a store front. Not a lot of people shopping for grills downtown. Above St. Elmo is the 1933 Lounge which is part of St. Elmo. You couldn't get a meal up there but you could have got a drink and the shrimp cocktail up there.
Pros and cons of hotels vs Airbnb. You’re right it is lacking in the rewards program, but the advantages I’ve had using them over hotels are: more space, more privacy/quiet, in better locations overall, less sterile/more unique...all the hotels tend to blend into each other and tend to be in the downtown/business districts which usually kind of stink especially post Covid.
Also, airbnb type places you might be more likely to find a place with your own balcony, patio or deck to hang out at and enjoy a fresh breeze and your morning coffee or a beer in the evening. Most hotels unless they're a beachfront resort you have to use whatever outdoor communal space they might have, which if they even have it might just be a small pool area.
@@JeffSchwenke agreed on everything you pointed out! The privacy and space are usually the best features from Airbnb though of course depends what type of place you book. It’s just hard to stick with a boring hotel room after some of the amazing Airbnb stays I’ve had that really allowed integration and exploration!
If you are in Indianapolis around May 26th for soft opening of Whiskey & Rhythm Restaurant and Lounge 2536 S. Meridian Street, stop by and the opening date is around June 5th.
Indianapolis downtown is nice, compact little city center especially for sports events, is not much unique (lots of chain restaurants and not much diversity in population) but friendly people, cheap costs. Don’t expect hustle and bustle of other cities, is spread out and not very densely populated. Great place for family visits
I love the canal, it's great for pokemon go, I just wish it was longer. It takes like 20 minutes to get from one end to the other, id love it to be 40-60.
I am glad to see someone else making a Downtown Indy video. However you didn't come in July or August when the plants and trees are all blooming along the Canal walk. Also the JW Marriott is highly over-priced and overrated ( I stayed here on my corporate account. a burger, fries, drink, and 5 chicken tenders was $56)( Best to walk to Steak N Shake or BWW. if anyone wants a great hotel, I recommend the Staybridge Suites.
Make sure you stay within a mile or so of the circle and it's not bad, outside of that and all bets are off. Most places that are outside of 465 are fine and like most big city's the farther you go the better it gets. Indy's near East, Northeast and North sides are by far the worst so if you're from out of town try to stay within the downtown area.
Hmm, not exactly sure of the locations you are referring to. within 465, near eastside (holycross and lockerbie neighborhoods), northeast side (castleton: not great but not awful), and north side (from 73rd to 96th has some of nicest neighborhoods in the city) are all the places with money and the most expensive houses. east and southeast are probably worst spots, followed by south and west
