As a new D2 player, your vids are exactly what I have been looking for. Having progressive builds from difficulty to difficulty with the diagram to show how to allocate your skill points / attributes is super useful, and I have not seen any vids that have this lay out. Good job and keep it up, I'll be waiting for the Barb vid!
Summon Necro guide: Pump 20 points into Raise skeleton and Skelton Mastery, some points into Corpse Explosion and one into Amplify Damage and let the skeletons eat= defeating D2R normal mode. It’s easy.
Just beat Normal with the Summoner. Diablo absolutely destroys minions but surprisingly enough, Baal couldn't even get a hit in. Decrepify really takes him down a notch lol
For anyone reading this, Blizzard just announced that Ladder-only game mechanics (events, uniques, runewords) will be available for both normal mulitplayer as well as singleplayer.
Decrepify + Clay Golem + Ice Mage OP against any boss. Not sure if curses stack though. At least in PoE there is a visual cue for what curses you have on mobs.
I kind of screwed up and went half summoner and half bone. I'm level 26 now and am thinking I should just bite the bullet and respec and pick one or the other ...thoughts?
This game Is very complex and diversify In therms of choice, thats nothing to do with diablo 3 , my knoledge on that game doenst mean anything here. I hope diablo 4 be more like D2.
I have played a lot of fishymancer over the years and I not only agree with you but it is an objective fact that clay golem is the best golem until you are crazy rich because iron golem is only better if you make it with a runeword weapon like beast or insight. So to anyone new to D2 and thinking about playing skeletons stick to the clay golem he is great vs bosses his slow plus decrep and they basiclly don't get to hit back, also save your pennies for enigma it is unfortunatly needed to push this build and not having it can be painfully slow in hell.
Summon resist is a bad idea because of its diminishing returns, as you get more +skills you'll easily get sufficient amounts of resist with only one point. Same is true for revive; getting 10 or so revived monsters is more than enough, you don't need more than 1 hard point in that skill. I'd max out golem mastery and clay golem with the remaining points for easier boss tanking, you can just reapply decrepify and together with the clay golem slow the boss will get one attack out per 10 or so seconds, essentially so slow as to become almost completely harmless. Diablo is the only boss that can still be dangerous thanks to those spells of his. Iron maiden is pretty worthless, just skip all that extra nonsense and focus on raise skeleton and skeleton mastery and your skellies will be more than powerful enough to kill any boss for the entire game. If you're having trouble, just grind a few levels and try again with more skeletons. Also go with Nightmare Act 2 offensive merc that has might to further increase the damage of your skellies. EDIT: oh, and skeleton mages are worthless, they're so bad that you don't want to waste the time to cast them, let alone use any skill points on that crap.
I always loved playing Summonmancer ( nothing like walking around with a literal army killing everything on screen....though it tended to be kinda weak against Diablo/bosses ) with at least one point in each curse ( cause who the hell doesn't love Corpse Explosion?! ) It was either that or Trap/Kick Assassin though OG D2 I was all about Frozen Orb Sorc

Yeah necromancer is a lot of fun. I haven't played one in a long time because sorc/hdin is too good on ladder. Feels great getting back into the other classes again.

Fun fact about the Insight Polearm for your A2 merc... if you have the Prayer merc, the Meditate skill from the polearm gets the bonus HP regen from the Prayer synergy, effectively letting you double-down on the regen. For a necromancer who doesn't necessarily want a Holy Freeze aura shattering all the corpses you could otherwise use for minions and/or explosions, it's a perfectly viable minion. Doubly so if you want to chill with your friends, since your merc's aura helps your friends too!
You are heavily breathing into your pop filter starting from the 5:15 segment. If possible, please fix these issues in the following episodes. Thanks for the content :)
This is a great guide i was getting ruined by Duriel because i had no points on curses so i grinded out two more points then i got amplify damage and iron maiden that was all the difference! iron maiden is detrimental to your build
Just killed andi as a summoner nec on normal and she only managed to kill my skels once and goloem once I have 4 norm skels 3 mage skels and had the clay golem
Your explanation and step by step saved my sanity for my necro.. I was doing a build I saw when I googled, but it didnt go into nearly enough depth for me to understand why I was putting points into the skills that was suggested nor how I was suppose to function properly as a summoner. The bosses were decimating my army with ease so I was about to give in and respec -- until this video. Thank you for the detail, gameplay, and ease of information.
Finally going down to mephisto. Hope to hell i can survive this with the bone build. That wand runeword is great my bonespear is at level 29 with plus skills
Don't do the chipped gem/staff thing.. You will use the chipped gems later on to upgrade your runes. And cash has never been hard to get in D2.. I've got 3 shared stashes maxed at 2.5 mil each (I empty it out with gambling now and then, but that's all cash is good for besides potions/scrolls and repairs), and a few hundred K in my personal stash. Even early on, gold hasn't really been a concern. Enough stuff typically drops, that you don't need to buy overpriced staves/socketed armors from the vendor. Also Normal, up to at least halfway through nightmare, is easy enough that you can 'cheese' most of the fights in general if you're on a Sorc/Necro/Pally, Prob Zon as well, and I haven't replayed assassin yet (Barb can get difficult into NM). Only fights I found difficult, was Duriel in Norm, on my Necro and Sorc (especially sorc), but then cheesed him on NM with both. Point being, save those chipped gems, cuz they're harder to get when you're lvl 60-70+ and spending the bulk of your time in Hell difficulty.
@@moumantai6337 there should be 3 shared stash tabs and 1 stash tab unique to each character. Also, upgrade your chipped gems if you have a lot of them. As a rule, I upgrade my chipped to flawed once I have 5, so there's two left if I need them to upgrade runes.
I dunno, personally as a summoner, once I get decrepify I have had no issues with bosses. Most of my skeletons stay alive and they do pretty decent damage. I don't even to looking for Bluders, unless I'm doing ubers.

This build is decent in normal and nightmare difficulty, but yesterday I tried hell, the survivability of my minion is ok, but the damage output is poor. do you have any tips to kill monsters with my minion faster? PS: I also watched your other videos about other classes, and I can't find a proper word to express my gratitude. before I find your video, most of the guide is: get the Hellfire Torch and Annihilus and balabala then you can kill whatever you want. this is basically telling me to go F myself. your video is different, it is a step-by-step guideline that I can basically repeat the process and win. all in all, thanks for the great content. you are the best

You should have every point in Bone Spear when leveling up, and the game won't let you put more in after that, so it's best to put it in a synergy to indirectly increase its damage.

Fact remains, i know this build is good, but i will still make a poison nova/corpse explosion necro cause its so damn fun and actually effective against bosses, especial’y with the poison dagger, very underestimated!
i do wonder if they changed anything balance wise when going live with the game? i purposely went full noobcake and threw all my points in raising 6 skeleton warriors and the rest into skeleton mastery. thats it. no mages,no iron maiden, no golem, no teeth,no bone spear...no nothing. and those skeletons can pretty much oneshoot everything. 3 hits at most i observed. rocked up at Duriel with 6 skeletons and my merc and my skeletons shredded him within seconds...i lost 3. and on top of that i kinda ignored the money making tips seen here because i was feeling lazy but by the end of Act II i had 225k gold. just by identifying and selling blues/gold items. this just seems too easy.
Sounds like you went a pretty good summoner build for normal. The bone skills are only if you are going a bone build instead of a summon build (don't use both summons and bone spells at the same time, your bone skill will be weak and your skeletons will also be weak). Only thing I would say to your build is maybe 1 into amplify damage to double the damage of all your skeletons and mercenary.
I had a very pleasant time with Malice-made iron golem + Corpse Explosion on normal, though it took a respec at level 24. Maxed Golem Mastery and a few points in Summon Resist is enough to make him tanky enough, and your merc (especially a Frenzy merc from act 5) covers him in damage department. The act bosses and some elite-led groups are still able to kill him fairly quickly even under Decrepify, but you always have enough time to TP out and heal. In fact, I never lost a single metal golem in a fight - but you can easily keep a few replacement bases+runes for Malice. Baal is an exception, Decrepify turns him into a big helpless baby with a lot of HP. The Ancients were also unable to scratch neither my golem nor my merc.
I never knew about the blunderbore thingies. I used to summon all the time. When trying to kill Baal, I'd literally enter the room, walk away, come back 5 min later and Baal was dead. Same as the waves before him. I'll have to try that out!
You mentioned several times to give the merc and yourself multiple thaw/antidote potions before Duriel and Andariel … I’ve been playing D2 since it came out so I gotta ask: do they stack or what?!? Coz I have NEVER used addons or mods other than Pluggy and pluggy only so I can have more stash space 🤷♀️ and I never noticed that/if the potions’ benefits stack or get prolonged

Going to watch but in my experience this never fails in act 1- Get 4-5 Skeletons, clay golem, cast amp damage when needed. Try to find a wand and head with + skeletons or mastery or both. Hit Andariel with corpse explosion for big damage. She is very weak to fire, which corpse explode is %50 fire damage. Amplify damage curse also makes corpse explode better because it is %50 physical. That is actually a good strategy for most of the entire game from normal to hell. Keep making skeletons better, use a curse, usually it will be amplify damage. Decrepify, clay golem and a single ice skeleton mage helps a lot for later bosses.
Put point into skeleton warriors untill you have 4then max skeleton mastery. They will have way more dmg and solo bosses easy and 1 tap almost every minion if you have used amplyfy dmg. At nightmare get act 2 merc with thorns aura since amplify + thorns is GIGACHAD on summen necro. Easy way to beat Even hell. Beside that good video

i remember back in the day using my fire golem to fight diablo at end he was able to be healed when diablo did his fire ring attack and he put out some good dps back then i just stood behind him and never got hit by the fire ring =) and since it was in hell lots of stuff did fire damage so my fire golem didnt die much......i look forward to making a new necro when i get the game
honestly i discovered a Hybrid Build that Rules them both,,Decrepify Breaks Phys immunes and Slows...and Fire Golem ends up with 7k life..skelies and Mages are WEAK as Hell..Revives with 1 point are better ..Corpse Explosion is THE MOST O.P> spell in the game 70-120% monster hit points..better know as Necro Nuke..in conclusion your assesment is weak at best..bone wall as a cynergy will be maxed Prison needs a single point.Golem Mastery is best to Increase Fire golems lifeat about 600% boost your good 7k life Fire golem is a Beast
It made me sad to watch my new Paladin using might aura + sacrifice with a shit weapon smack people for like 20+ damage per hit, and my skeletons do like 2 damage. BUT ITS COOLER AND I SAY BEGONE LIGHT.
Why, for the love of God, did you put a helm socketed with ruby/saphire on your merc? Duriel will deal with merc with or without +10 hp (and with you). I think that TirTir helm will be better, or a 2xSaphire one (of any qual), till you get Lore.
Necromancer/summoner does not need high end items 2 beat the game. Max out ur skelly + some revive, use decripify on every monsters, including elites & boss!
Asome guides for new players ! I wish I saw them sooner! It’s great to see guides that are not strictly based on end game builds. I love to MF but the beauty in this game is SSF in single player imo
It's a huge waist of points investing in anything beyond amp curse, you can use umes lament for decrep and tbh I never use iron maiden ever. edit: edge bow runeword is a fantastic aura (replaces your need to cast iron maiden) you make early on, don't overlook it. my necro runs a edge bow a1 merc in hell, tho i only run the halls. my amy has thorns witch is kinda like iron maiden, so i can cast amp all the time (or decrep since I have umes)
Do you have any advice on summoner build when it comes to map with small hallway? Worst one being maggot lair and even arcane santacury was beyond terrible when I went through it. Only 1 minion can do anything at a time and just feels terrible.

Thoughts on using iron golem for thorns and amp dmg or decrep for summons instead? Unsure which would be better for bosses, I've seen both styles used, iron maiden/clay golem and iron golem/decrep.
You can definitely go with Iron Golem if you find your army survives just fine without the Clay Golem slow. Using Iron Golem on a random insight so your merc can use a better weapon would be pretty GG.

Youll see why those guide dont exist once you have access to the full game. Most people are rushed past all of the mid game ;)

Decrepify works really well on bosses. It can kill Hell diablo with 2 batches of skeletons.

I've had good results running a summoner and a rogue mercenary with a bow with Edge runeword

how do you get shared stashes? my inventory is full of chipped gems, can't even pick up a dagger

Yes, all old “ladder only” runewords are available. You can make a spirit sword.

For the bone necro, why would Izzys point go into teeth instead of bone spear?
You should have every point in Bone Spear when leveling up, and the game won't let you put more in after that, so it's best to put it in a synergy to indirectly increase its damage.

Fact remains, i know this build is good, but i will still make a poison nova/corpse explosion necro cause its so damn fun and actually effective against bosses, especial’y with the poison dagger, very underestimated!
i do wonder if they changed anything balance wise when going live with the game?
i purposely went full noobcake and threw all my points in raising 6 skeleton warriors and the rest into skeleton mastery. thats it.
no mages,no iron maiden, no golem, no teeth,no bone spear...no nothing.
and those skeletons can pretty much oneshoot everything. 3 hits at most i observed.
rocked up at Duriel with 6 skeletons and my merc and my skeletons shredded him within seconds...i lost 3.
and on top of that i kinda ignored the money making tips seen here because i was feeling lazy but by the end of Act II i had 225k gold. just by identifying and selling blues/gold items.
this just seems too easy.
Sounds like you went a pretty good summoner build for normal. The bone skills are only if you are going a bone build instead of a summon build (don't use both summons and bone spells at the same time, your bone skill will be weak and your skeletons will also be weak). Only thing I would say to your build is maybe 1 into amplify damage to double the damage of all your skeletons and mercenary.

I had a very pleasant time with Malice-made iron golem + Corpse Explosion on normal, though it took a respec at level 24. Maxed Golem Mastery and a few points in Summon Resist is enough to make him tanky enough, and your merc (especially a Frenzy merc from act 5) covers him in damage department.
The act bosses and some elite-led groups are still able to kill him fairly quickly even under Decrepify, but you always have enough time to TP out and heal. In fact, I never lost a single metal golem in a fight - but you can easily keep a few replacement bases+runes for Malice.
Baal is an exception, Decrepify turns him into a big helpless baby with a lot of HP. The Ancients were also unable to scratch neither my golem nor my merc.

I never knew about the blunderbore thingies. I used to summon all the time. When trying to kill Baal, I'd literally enter the room, walk away, come back 5 min later and Baal was dead. Same as the waves before him. I'll have to try that out!
You mentioned several times to give the merc and yourself multiple thaw/antidote potions before Duriel and Andariel … I’ve been playing D2 since it came out so I gotta ask: do they stack or what?!? Coz I have NEVER used addons or mods other than Pluggy and pluggy only so I can have more stash space 🤷♀️ and I never noticed that/if the potions’ benefits stack or get prolonged

Going to watch but in my experience this never fails in act 1- Get 4-5 Skeletons, clay golem, cast amp damage when needed. Try to find a wand and head with + skeletons or mastery or both. Hit Andariel with corpse explosion for big damage. She is very weak to fire, which corpse explode is %50 fire damage. Amplify damage curse also makes corpse explode better because it is %50 physical. That is actually a good strategy for most of the entire game from normal to hell. Keep making skeletons better, use a curse, usually it will be amplify damage. Decrepify, clay golem and a single ice skeleton mage helps a lot for later bosses.
Put point into skeleton warriors untill you have 4then max skeleton mastery. They will have way more dmg and solo bosses easy and 1 tap almost every minion if you have used amplyfy dmg. At nightmare get act 2 merc with thorns aura since amplify + thorns is GIGACHAD on summen necro. Easy way to beat Even hell. Beside that good video

i remember back in the day using my fire golem to fight diablo at end he was able to be healed when diablo did his fire ring attack and he put out some good dps back then i just stood behind him and never got hit by the fire ring =) and since it was in hell lots of stuff did fire damage so my fire golem didnt die much......i look forward to making a new necro when i get the game
Yeah Fire Golem is pretty awesome, I just prefer Clay Golem's slow plus so many fire immunities in hell.
honestly i discovered a Hybrid Build that Rules them both,,Decrepify Breaks Phys immunes and Slows...and Fire Golem ends up with 7k life..skelies and Mages are WEAK as Hell..Revives with 1 point are better ..Corpse Explosion is THE MOST O.P> spell in the game 70-120% monster hit points..better know as Necro Nuke..in conclusion your assesment is weak at best..bone wall as a cynergy will be maxed Prison needs a single point.Golem Mastery is best to Increase Fire golems lifeat about 600% boost your good 7k life Fire golem is a Beast
It made me sad to watch my new Paladin using might aura + sacrifice with a shit weapon smack people for like 20+ damage per hit,
and my skeletons do like 2 damage. BUT ITS COOLER AND I SAY BEGONE LIGHT.
Why, for the love of God, did you put a helm socketed with ruby/saphire on your merc?
Duriel will deal with merc with or without +10 hp (and with you).
I think that TirTir helm will be better, or a 2xSaphire one (of any qual), till you get Lore.
Nice tip about the blunderbores as a summoner, I had totally forgotten about their handy crushing blow.
Absolutely life changing and the very definition of quality of life. Little unique things like this makes D2 so great!
Can enemies have multible curses at the same time?
Only 1 curse at a time.
Necromancer/summoner does not need high end items 2 beat the game. Max out ur skelly + some revive, use decripify on every monsters, including elites & boss!

It's a huge waist of points investing in anything beyond amp curse, you can use umes lament for decrep and tbh I never use iron maiden ever.
edit: edge bow runeword is a fantastic aura (replaces your need to cast iron maiden) you make early on, don't overlook it. my necro runs a edge bow a1 merc in hell, tho i only run the halls.
my amy has thorns witch is kinda like iron maiden, so i can cast amp all the time (or decrep since I have umes)
On ps4 its not a easy like u described, my lvl 2 golem is still almost instantly killed even I using your tactics. I'M ON LVL 31 :(
Do you have any advice on summoner build when it comes to map with small hallway? Worst one being maggot lair and even arcane santacury was beyond terrible when I went through it. Only 1 minion can do anything at a time and just feels terrible.

Spirit is not a 'ladder only' runeword anymore. All runewords work in D2R from jump.

Thoughts on using iron golem for thorns and amp dmg or decrep for summons instead? Unsure which would be better for bosses, I've seen both styles used, iron maiden/clay golem and iron golem/decrep.
You can definitely go with Iron Golem if you find your army survives just fine without the Clay Golem slow. Using Iron Golem on a random insight so your merc can use a better weapon would be pretty GG.
