Who would have thought, that an 8 minute video, would be the most heart wrenching and best film of the year. The best star trek in a long time without a doubt.
Watching this, I get the sense that William Shatner has made peace with his own death. He's had one helluva run. I wish that I'd had more than one brief interaction with you when we crossed paths on horseback on a hillside in Griffith park 30 years ago, Bill, but I'm grateful for that. We're grateful for the decades of wonderful performances you gave us all.
I saw Robin Curtis (Lt. Saavik Star Trek III The Search for Spock and ST IV The Voyage Home) who played the older version of Saavik here that in the script of Voyage Home it stated that after Spock's Ponn Faar they shared in ST III that she became pregnant with Spock's child and this indeed is their Son. Robin became emotional with the realization that her character of Saavik had a long healthy life and had raised a son. This year marks 40 years since Search for Spock was released in theaters and ties off her character arc quite nicely. William Shatner stood in as himself and they used AI and CGI to make him look as he did in all 3 past time frames. Also it is 30 years since ST Generations this year too and Gary Lockwood who played Gary Mitchell in Where No Man has Gone Before and is in his 80s reprised the role to stand in for Gary also. You will notice the camera focused on a table with a drink but also a compact case next to it. That case was held by Zachary Quinto as Spock in ST Beyond and when opened had the full bridge crew publicity pic from ST V The Final Frontier that older Spock had in his possession and gave to his younger self before passing on. This will most likely be one of the last times we see William Shatner himself although anti-aged playing Captain Kirk and we are so blessed he did this for all of us as he is in his 90s now but still looking great for his age and has all his mental faculties intact. Thank you William Shatner, we have and always will love you as Captain Kirk.
To get Gary Lockwood back, would have been awesome. To get Robin Curtis back, would have been awesome. To get William Shatner back would have been impossible and awesome, for any ST production over the last 20 years. To get them ALL in one Film together , Gary after (nearly) 60 years reprising his role, Robin after 40 and Bill after 30 ....thats such a huge moment in cinematic history, not only ST but cinema itself

The subtlety of the acting is what really sells this. Kirk's mannerisms and how they are different yet totally accurate for each stage of his life. Spock on his deathbed on New Vulcan struggling to breathe and still giving that faint eyebrow raise. Wow! This whole 765874 project has been amazing - Memory Wall, Regeneration, and now Unification. Lots of inside Trek here. JM Colt and her time journey and her mind meld with Spock showing him the future in Memory Wall. the aftermath of Generations and Spock haunted by these future visions shared with him by Colt in Regeneration. And now Gary Mitchell in his omnipotence knowing Kirk is crossing over, Saavik and Spock's son from Vulcan's Heart, and Commander Yor from Discovery somehow getting Kirk to cross to the Kelvin timeline from the prime timeline in Unification. Super cool stuff. If you haven't seen Memory Wall or Regeneration - you need to watch all three now in order.
Wonderful comment. The lack of dialogue threw me, as I was missing some context. I was thinking that somehow Gary had shunted Kirk to New Vulcan so that he and Spock could be together as Spock passed away. But is Kirk dying too???? Who are all those people in the meadow? (I do recognize Saavik), and I assumed the man near her was Spock's son, but are they dead? Alive? This bit confuses me.
It's pretty obvious how far Star Trek has falled spectacularly recently if this empty (if beauifully shot) pastiche can elicit such a heart felt and emotional response from fans. If you haven't already, then go watch Star Trek Continues... if you want to see genuine heartfelt Star Trek. If CBS and Paramount had found people who cared and respected the francise as much as the team that put that show together, perhaps it wouldn't have the dwindling audience it has these days.
Thanks for showing this. This is the best Star Trek I've seen since 1996! The man with the silver eyes at the beginning is Lieutenant Commander Gary Mitchell played by Gary Lockwood in the third episode of Star Trek called "Where no man has gone before". In that episode he became the most powerful man in the universe and Kirk had to fight him. McCoy said, " Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely!". Great episode. Mitchell is looking into Kirk's future which is what this is all about. Very clever connection to the original series.
@@GFMaddog He brought them back and gave them a friends reunion and letting Kirk and Spock send each other into eternity. Lifelong friends deserve the company of their friend as they pass on.

What if it was Q that gave both of them 2 unite together. Never mind, it was Gary Lockwood as Mitchell from the Episode, Where No Man Has Gone Before from the original series. Mitchell played by Gary Lockwood turns into a God like being with super powers.
It’s fitting how Spock gets to see his family literally during death, it’s what his family would’ve wanted for Leonard Nimoy. Film helps in how we deal with loss and those we miss.
I'm sure someone pointed it out, but I don't see it. That was Saavik with Spock's apparent son. First played by Kirstie Alley in The Wrath of Khan, and then by Robin Curtis (who you see playing her here) in The Search for Spock and briefly on The Voyage Home.
@timhowland7103 thank you for telling me as I'm still learning about the original series. She has a striking look. I look forward to watching and re watching the films and original series. Thanks 🙏
@@AdventuresWithJediJezza my pleasure. I revel in sharing Star Trek hah. I'll let you decide who you like playing Saavik more. ST II, III, and IV are one of my favorite runs of film that I've seen. definitely all have a very 80's feel to them, but I thoroughly enjoy them.
I showed my 83 year old mom, who introduced me to TOS when I was a kid and I could tell she got a little choked up. As we both agreed, no words were needed. The reason I enjoy TOS, and to some degree TNG and the new take on the TOS characters so much is because of the depth of the characters, their friendships and connection to one another. It's the quiet moments they have, the dialogue, not all the glitz of the battles that make Star Trek. TOS was known for tackling tough subjects, and how we look at life & death. I loved this short film as it gave fans a better send off for both of them, one they deserved. Although I admit, I had trouble determining if Kirk was alive or not...guessing he was "regenerated." Although I think another take could've been cool if all those unknown people with Savvik & the son could've been CGI / AI versions of all the rest of the TOS crew, Bones, Scotty, etc, his son David, etc. It would've been neat to see Kirk acknowledge all his old friends before he goes to Spock to be with him at the end. Altogether very touching and fitting. I loved seeing the younger Kirks in the time transition section...the facial expressions were so spot on! Oh, and the music was perfect...really brought on all the feels!
Just beautiful, I would love to have a copy of the video, it brought tears. I interpreted that Kirk has passed and he met his science officer/friend in the garden of Eden. I loved Leonard Nimoy, still do. As long as I am alive, he will not be forgotten. RIP Leonard/Spock LLAP William Shatner.

Thank you so much for your commentary. I agree an amazing way for both Kirk and Spock as well as Bill and Leonard to say goodbye. (That relative is Leonard wife). Its a beautiful film.
Well, it *is* Bill Shatner doing the acting. That's why his walk is a bit odd; 93 year olds don't awing their arms much. They're less flexible. But his expressions are the same.
The expressions in mannerisms in Kirk are correct because that is William Shatner himself, he was involved in this.. he was de-aged with AI. Witwer plays the young Kirk.

One of thevery few memories I have of my father is watching TOS with him on Saturday afternoons sitting on the couch. He was gone before I ever truly got to know him. This - this was like being able to hold my father's hand one last time.
Something that struck me was Shatner’s real life grief and non-closure over the loss of his friend and Nimoy not responding to him at the end of his life….. Could this also represent a way Shatner could honor his friend by being there for him when he passes? Hmmmmm….🤔
Been a fan since just before TNG first aired. I didn't think it was possible to be more thoroughly obliterated than Spock's death in WRATH OF KHAN but here we are...fuckin' 38 years of feels just all coalesced into one 8 minute burst. Still not okay.
Guinen left an echo of herself in the nexus, what if cosmic Gary Mitchell reached into the ribbon for that echo that we see in the garden....to cross over to another universe to say goodbye to his friend. An echo before the end.
Cant remember that aliens name but i know he has godlike abilities cause he crossed from the kelvin timeline to the prime so im guessing he help kirks spirit cross over to be with spock in his final moments not even time and space could keep friends apart
Much, if not all of this reminds me of how many people describe their near death experiences. They describe a profound all encompassing love beyond anything we experience in this earthly life. Virtually all say that no words needed to be spoken, communication was telepathic instant knowing and understanding. Everyone I've ever heard said the following, "I immediately knew I was home" and "our language simply cannot adequately describe the beauty of heaven". I don't know if this is what they were going for or whether it just happened that way because somewhere deep down, buried in a place we cannot consciously reach while we are here, exists a profound truth of who and what we really are, eternal and infinitely loved.
@tekulve2968 let me try this again. There is no afterlife. There is a ressurection but all living things go the same place...eventually. At some point in time Hashem will choose to ressurect some... the bodies will be rejoined to the spirit....the living soul.
Damn, I tear up every time . What Kirk brought to my life. Modern Trek tried to erase the greatest Captain. There is more. Check out The Menmory Wall Unification. Spock retrieves Kirk's body. Gary Lockwood was in the original 2nd Pilot with "No Man Has Gone Before"
Star Trek Picard. Kirk's body at the Daystrom Space Station being experimented on by Section 31. Project Phoenix. While in a stasis chamber there are life signs. Fast forward to this, Gary Mitchell kirks' friend is a man who gained god like abilities. Is hanging out in the Ether. Gary decides to fully resurrect his friend Kirk. Somehow someway people instrumental to Kirk and Spock are brought together. Yor the time soldier gives Kirk the ability to cross time and space to be with his Friend his brother in spirit before he passes on. This wasnt something in the Nexus. Gary Mitchell actually brought Kirk back. Kirk goes thru the Memory wall. And sees aspects of himself at different points in time. Not even time and space could keep them separated. This was simply closure for 2 friends. Terry Matalas said he included Kirk in season 3 that future writers might be able to bring kirk back. Star Trek OTOY did that.
CGI is a wonderful tool it won't be long now before you cant tell the real MC coy from the fake one not to mention self indulgence I wonder how CGI will resolve that issue? 😊
Glad you enjoyed this awesome moment in Star Trek history, but I'm a bit confused as to why you didn't react to it in real time first and then go back and do commentary. I would have liked to see your initial reaction.
I know what you mean bro. I cried my eyes out. It's a beautiful tribute to Leonard Nimoy and also a way for William Shatner to say goodbye to him in real life. But Captain Kirk is saying goodbye to Spock. This can also set up a way for William Shatner to be in the next movie with Chris Pine and play Kirk as prime elder Kirk? There is always possibilities.

There is no life after death.
I love what you have to say. I wonder too. We will all find out one day, and we will be ok. Thank you.
@tekulve2968 let me try this again. There is no afterlife.
There is a ressurection but all living things go the same place...eventually.
At some point in time Hashem will choose to ressurect some... the bodies will be rejoined to the spirit....the living soul.
And the Oscar goes to 🏆🖖
I really wish they had showed The Motion Picture Kirk in the grey jumpers or even the two tone Admiral's jumper
We had such good adventures. Live long.
Live long and prosper
He knows what has to be done ❤❤😢😭
The acting was awesome.
It truly needed no words. 😢
11:25 Her name is Saavik. She first appears in Wrath of Khan.
15:15 “Jim…” 😭
he crossed into the kelvin universe to be with spock as he passed. absolutely beautiful work by OTOY.
deep fake is a bit clunky, but still looks amazing. How did you not recognize Robin Curtis??
At least somebody made a useful contribution what can be done with AI...
Is he coming back as right full admiral???? But in picard era????
Saavik!
Haha I remember now, thank you.
I'm curious why Gary Larson from the pilot episode appeared. in the beginning.. It was so well done... Does anyone have an answer?
Sorry... Gary Lockwood...
Bill s book could have been like this right after generations but they chose not
Damn, I tear up every time .
Was this Kirk going through the NEXUS to all the places & times where he was seeking closure?
Wouldn't have hurt to have Kirk saying something. Talking was Kirks thing.
CGI is a wonderful tool it won't be long now before you cant tell the real MC coy from the fake one not to mention self indulgence I wonder how CGI will resolve that issue?
😊
Aw, the D.
Bridge on the Captain.
Glad you enjoyed this awesome moment in Star Trek history, but I'm a bit confused as to why you didn't react to it in real time first and then go back and do commentary. I would have liked to see your initial reaction.
Proof positive that Star Trek turns your brains to mush.
Well the nu trek garbage will cause brain damage
A.l./CGI will eventually replace the human actor..(said with a heavy heart)..they just have to get the voice's right and it will be a done deal..
I like how you think. Live long and prosper.
Original Link?
Beautifully executed, but a lot of it looked too much like the last chapter of 2001 for my comfort...
I'm drawing a blank. Who is the alien at 3:58?
He's a transdimensional traveler from STD.
Where can I watch this without this guy talking over at it?
