Got a question. Before this patch you could use the MPC Live as a audio interface while recording on my PC. Can you leave the external audio interface in the MPC, connect it to a PC and keep recording, on the external audio device, through the MPC to the PC? I only have one external audio interface.
My favorite part of the update that nobody is talking about: my sd card shows up in Windows without having to take it out of my MPC One. Drag and drop samples just got easier
It did prior to the update in Windows too if I connected the mpc live 2, to the computer, it just didnt show the internal drive of the mpc, but it did show the usbstick/sdcard.
Dude. Thank you so much for making this video. You just stopped me from returning this mpc because I couldn’t figure out how to use it with my interface. I watched several videos and you are the only one that got it right the way I needed it. You rule.
This totally helped me figure out my recording for the new 2.11 update. Thank you Matthew!! You’ve been such a godsend for this learning curve. Making easier for guitar players to make music!
I recently got the SP 404 & couldn’t get condenser mic to work on it properly…so instead of buying a mic…got the mpc one. Glad to see how easy it is to integrate everything. Problem solved! Thanks for the video and great guitar playing btw.
This feature is basically what sold me. I have the zoom l-8 and i used to have a full desk of dawless gear and it was a hodgepodge and a mess at times. Now i can use the interface i have and get rid of 3/5’s of my whole setup with the mpc live 2
You are always helpful when I get in a bind…even though my audio interface didn’t work, this video helped me get my irig working aswell as gave me more creative ideas. Thanks for your work and time Matt!
Hi Matthew here’s the coment about the video scarlet interface. Thanks for the question. All Scarlett interfaces are class compliant - can be connected to a Mac without installing additional drivers. I have both the 4i4 and 8i6 and although both are very good, I would recommend the 8i6 as it has its own power supply which can help out if you ever run into rfi or emi issues with your setup. Also, the additional IO vs a 2i2/2i4 is nice to have for for your MPC and other future devices that may become part of your workflow. Hope this helps out and thanks for watching
Installing NOW! Guess I might want to add a Zoom L-20 or Tascam Model 24 now as an Audio Interface and Recorder thanks to USB Class Compliance! Thanks Matt!
Just sold my MPC One and now I feel foolish. Never got a real chance to deal with the audio side of. And now THIS with the interface? That’s it! I’m about to buy another. 👍🏽 Thanks.
This is a really dope feature! I could now see myself using it as a recorder for when I play with other musicians. I can also now use a USB mixer like the Tascam model 12 for mixing purposes. However, it doesn't change the total number of audio tracks I can have in a project on the MPC Live: 8. Still, a step in the right direction, Akai!
Hello! Would you mind if i ask you a couple of questions? I'm currently waiting for delivery of my live 2 and I'm considering getting a Tascam model 12 as well! Could you let me know how well does it work over usb, are you able to assign channels as inputs? Can it output the master from mpc and add effects to it at the same time while you're using it as an input? How does it work? I'd appreciate any info/feedback. Cheers!
@@Me-Lo the answer to all your questions is YES! You certainly can assign channels as inputs, as long as you change the mode on the 12 to PC. Also, the Master outs on the MPC can be routed to the 12, which has its own array of effects that can be applied while recording, and you can even reroute that same audio back into the MPC post-effects. However, the 12 itself can be used as a recorder as well. One way you could use the MPC-12 combo would be to compose your piece in the MPC, record each track to the 12, and then mix in the 12. Or you could record a band via the 12 into the MPC. There’s multiple ways you could use such a combo to achieve your musical goals!
Hey matt thanks for all your content. I watched one of your videos on connected to splice with your mpc one and it helped a lot I watched a lot of your videos and the content is allways good. Thanks for every thing.
Great video! All the MPC knowledge you share is very much appreciated. I've been hoping for this update so I can use condenser mics with phantom power directly into the MPC One!
How did you get on with this? I had the same idea but can't get it working. MPC forced setting the MX1 sample rate to 44100 - after this, the sample rate message on the mpc has gone but after 10-15sec MPC errors and resets back to internal. Tried all three MX1 start-up modes, but keeps erroring. MX1 is on latest firmware 1.05.
@@SimonJones I decided not to rewire my setup too much. I have 3 MX1s connected to each other & run the send out to the MPC & all my instruments are connected by midi & controlled by a Novation SLMK3 keyboard sequencer. I have not tried yet to connect a MX1 to the MPC via usb, however after reading your problem I will give it a go & see what happens.
@@mickcj2001 Done a little more reading and the issue seems to be that the MX isn't "class compliant" which is a requirement for the MPC audio interface feature.
@@SimonJones I am not even going to try it, I am more than happy with the way I already have them set up & I think going via the usb would be less efficient for my workflow. I have one quick question. If you hook an external USB interface, such as the Focusrite Scarlett to the MPC One, will the MPC's internal physical input/output options simultaneously be available and selectable along with the Scarlett I/O? For example, I have an MPC X with 8 total outputs including the main outs. If I were to hook up a two-channel Scarlett, could I expand my total outputs to 10 by simultaneously routing the 8 outputs from the MPC X plus the two from the Scarlett to be sent to a mixer or computer interface for tracking out? If so, this is really NICE!!!!-----well, it's NICE anyway non-the-less. Thanks for the video. Excellent feature update!!!!
@@matthegan3415 I just tested a class compliant USB interface (although it wasn't a Focusrite) to see if it would work as mentioned on my MPC One. I have not tried it out on my MPC X yet. However, I made two startling and not-so-good discoveries after connecting the interface to the MPC One: 1. The MPC requires me to pick what audio device I want to use. I can either use the USB interface or the internal MPC audio I/O but NOT BOTH AT THE SAME TIME!!!!! Based on this, it seems like it works similar to ASIO devices in Windows in which you can only select one audio interface within a DAW application. THAT SUCKS!!!!! 2. When using the USB audio interface (which is a 4-channel interface 4 in/4 out) with the MPC, I can only get output from channels 1 and 2. When I tried to route sound to channels 3 and 4, I got no sound from those channels. THIS ALSO SUCKS!! Based on this test, I'm not liking the USB Audio implementation of the MPCs. Hmmm. Maybe this isn't the best interface to test it with. However, it's the only one I can test right now. Regardless, not being able to use both, the internal and external audio I/O simultaneously is a real bummer. The USB audio interface I used in this test is a M-Audio Connectiv (designed primarily for DJing).
@@kvmoore1 i can confirm the built in inputs and outputs on the mpc one (including the headphone jack on the front) dont work when i choose an external audio io (Focusrite 18i6). this does suck. imagine if you could buy a $15 behringer 2x2 audio io (those tiny ones on sweetwater, phone size i guess) and make it a 4x4, that would be dope. but its not worth my time/money especially if its quite possible i end up like your 2nd example where the 3rd and 4th output dont work. not worth the gamble. unless i just happen to find a very cheap 4 or more audio io (like $50 or less) i cant see myself bothering, but i get why people would run some crazy amount of inputs into it. Also the digitakt cannot be used as the audio output for some reason, idk. maybe im not doing it right. but, you can go midi out on digitakt to midi in on mpc and midi sync them so thats kinda nice to save a midi port i suppose.
@@MidiFister Yeah. I'm gonna re-test my USB audio interface again with the MPC One when I get a chance. I want to see if I can figure out how to get audio from outputs 3 and 4. I'm really hoping there was just something I missed or something I did wrong because I don't see why this shouldn't work. Several people have not only confirmed, but also proven via UA-cam videos, that multichannel audio outputs work flawlessly on the Tascam Model 12 mixer (which is also USB class compliant) when connected to the MPC One. Since multichannel output is possible on that device, I don't see why it shouldn't be possible on my M-Audio Conectiv. If I can't get it to work on the second try, maybe these class compliant USB interfaces are a hit or miss. But, I'm gonna try it again first before I draw that conclusion.
I have an update to my previous post. I have recently tried my M-Audio Connectiv again with my MPC One and was still unable to get sound from outputs 3 and 4, unfortunately. I guess these so-called class-compliant USB interfaces really are a hit or miss.

This is awesome! So not only can I record into my mpc one via usb on my zoom L12 - I also do not have to rely on the stereo outputs(mpc) to hear bc it will automatically be playing audio out thru usb on my zoom! So thinking out loud.....if I’m using a helix stomp for my guitar tones, based on this update(class compliant)- I should be able to connect the helix via usb as well. This is making me wonder if a usb hub would allow me to connect all 3 via usb(MPC, Helix & zoom) all at once! So cool!! Matthew,If you have any thoughts on if this will/ will not work please comment! Thanks🤘🏼🔥
You need to select what device to use in the settings. I don't think you can use all of them at once. make sure they are class compliant devices. Zoom works fine just need to put the switch in the back to class compliant.
I'm new to using more cables for monitoring. What kind of cable do you use for monitor/audio output? I'm confused on if I need a ts interconnect or two separate trs cables. I'm trying to run a Volt 276 into my mpc one plus.

Say Matt, I have the MPC LIVE, as well as the zoom, L12, ZOOM H8, and the ZOOM Z3, and they wont link up in standalone on my Focusrite 212, not even my Focusrite 414 will link. Can you do a full video on how to track out and use the F12 with standalone.
I can’t believe you couldn’t do this before
It is a good option to have.
Great, thanks!!! Do you know if it's compatible with my audient iD44? That would be awesome!!!
Can I plug it to the computer via usb just for midi without going into controller mode?
Awesome video, what if I wanted to send sound from my laptop as well as my MPC one? Is that possible ?
What about 24 bit, 48kHz, 128 samples, for example....Where do we set that on the MPC? Thanks ;)
Did you also checked out the Legato Mode on keygroup ? And how it works? Thanks for sharing.
Not yet, haven't had the time.
Keep doing what you doing💯 Thanks for the tutorial.
Thanks, will do!
Hi!
Do I need, anything other than, the 2i2, to record vocals, into my MPC Live 2?
What cables do I need?
Hey Matt can you do a video using the presonus 24 channel mixer?
Now I get it its like recording in a computer but I Stan alone
I know it’s far-fetched, but any luck with a Thunderbolt interface and MPC standalone?
Where do the audio cables running from Scarlett's Line Output get sent to? Re Time: 1:37
great tutorial. thanks for going through connections usually tutorial just jump right without telling you the ins and outs. sadly I think my interface (presonus 1824c) isnt class compliant
very good video dude, dont use a scarlett though for outputs they don't sound good aka any better than the outputs of the mpc which are already very mediocre at best, take a better interface
So if you're recording only vocals, do you need the audio wires or just the interface USB connected?
I have my interface connected via USB but when I go to preferences - Audio Device - my Scarlett 2i2 doesn't show up? It only has an option for internal✔️
How can I get my interface to show up?
Another awesome tutorial! Thanks!
Appreciate you.
Could you plug say a TD-3, only by USB to the MPC and get audio, midi and power through a single cable? That would be awesome.
mpc live just will not acknowledge the scarlett 6i6. anyone have a suggestion?
If I want to use my iPhone do I hook cable from mpc to iPhone?
I followed all the steps have all the same equipment but I have a massive problem with static while recording! Any advice on why or what to do to solve this problem? Thankyou 🎧
What about the outputs? I record externally and would love to separate the tracks . I use MPC live so and have a Tascam Model 24. Can you use the outputs from MPC to record into the Zoom?
hey did you every fin this out? was wondering the same for my Zoom L-20. If not Id exchange it for a tascam 24 to get that functionality
What do you do if your MPC is not recognizing the interface within the audio device drop down? Thanks
How u getting the interface to work I have a prosonus 24 and they have nothing in the back of my mpc live 2 to plug my wire from the interface up to o. The mpc live 2
Question
Will this be suitable with a unit like the Universal Audio Twin X ? As it’s a Thunderbolt USB type-C cable. Really interested how this can be achieved
For now waiting for a Tascam Mode 24 mixer for a great workflow, but definitely be amazing to cover the UA Twin X
Now how do I connect all of this to my computer? Or in fl
I don’t see “audio device” when looking for the focus rite
Any tips?
I'm new to using more cables for monitoring. What kind of cable do you use for monitor/audio output? I'm confused on if I need a ts interconnect or two separate trs cables. I'm trying to run a Volt 276 into my mpc one plus.
Awesome video, Matthew! Can you confirm if this new function is applied to the Live and MPC X?
Yes.
Like always thank you for all your help your a great teacher. Question though so do I need to run my line out left and right of my audio interface to input 1 & 2 on my MPC live 2 or does it work via usb now that its audio over usb?
Audio works over USB.
now how do I connect all of this to my computer (Mac and my DAW is FL)
Matthew I was wondering could it be used the same way with the mpc if you use the mpc with the mpc software. I have my mpc connect to my lab laptop. I want to connect the interface via USB to the mpc so I have some mic inputs. My main thing is would having the mpc connect to my laptop USB and the interface to the mpc USB cause any problem? I have the mpc live.
Hey do you use two usb cables? I saw you plug the usb into the scarlet and the mpc so I’m a little confused.
Its to bad you cant record a full track on the mpc in standalone. like beat and lyrics and choruses . Hopefully the update comes soon .
