Brilliant Mikey. Lots of good stuff to educate other operators who are gonna change the sump...or oil pan as you guys call it
What your video cannot convey is the utterly horrible mess as oil runs up your arm and go where oil is not supposed to go. I feel your pain.
So many times I've had the same angst, trying to fit an oil filter filled with oil and screw it on to the housing.
Your fingers are covered in oil and slip like hell on the filter. Once you got it on by a couple of threads, you can clean your hands, and the filter and tighten it tighty tighty by hand.
That slippery oil catches you out all the time. Even although you say at the beginning...this time there will be NO MESS.....there always is a mess. It's the Law.
😂
I wish I could have loaned you my Steril-Koni Lift system. It makes things like this so much easier. Keeps the oil baths from happening. As I was watching I keep thinking Mike's about to get soaked. Good informative video. Take care Mike.
I know Mike you got all the nice ah nice tools!
Great job, Dirt Boss you definitely take pride in your fleet
You got to. You take care of it, it will take care of you. It will cost more money later if it’s not taken care of.
@@erikcourtney1834 I was definitely happy he went with the new oil pan!
Good morning sir!! Thank for a great video!! My motor is a bit older but I got the same oil pan!!! Thanks for what you do brother!!! Have a great day!!!
That was a super tough job Mike, I took an oil bath like that dropping a 5qt Ford flathead V8 pan on my Willys jeep years ago...can't imagine handling that "bath tub" Cummins pan. Glad you replaced it, wouldn't ever want to do that again. But now you know the ins and outs of it.✔💯
Well, that went alright for you, only one bath.... I would have been well oiled 🤣🤣🤦♂️
Bit of an awkward job for one person, you did well to get the sump replaced. Kenworth did a good job in locating one for you, complete with gasket and seals !!
You work hard, glad you are passing this onto Max👍💯. Great job, keep on " truckin"😊
Looking good. I enjoy working on my trucks and equipment. It’s how you learn about your trucks/equipment
👌
Yeah your right. Torque it correctly. Over tightening will cause them to leak. Did it in my 12 valve. It mushrooms the bolt holes on the pan which caused the gasket to not sit down all the way. Then you gotta buy a new pan.
What’s the torque
great job, I'm retired now so thank god never have to do an other pan change, nasty job but an important one
Just replaced a Cat C7 shallow sump oil pan last night. Thanks for your video admittedly 36 1inch identical bolts was alot easier than your big cummins. Hopefully no leaks
Enjoy watching all of your projects. I hope the pan stays dry for a long time.
41NY was my local Union before they merged to local one!!!! You reminded me today of my dad calling me a grease monkey when I was working on the cars 😂😂😂!!!! I wish you had a covered area where you could have gotten this done on the dreaded down days of winter with a heater keeping you warm while doing it!!! But it’s great seeing you getting it done anyway!!!LIKE A BOSS !!! I like it!!! Looking forward to some warm weather content and better conditions than the water hole you have been in during the last few videos!!!! Send my regards to the family oh and it was great seeing Max running the equipment teaching them young I love it!!!!
Thank you for this one big Mike!
Truck looks beautiful, tough job by yourself. Gives you that good feeling when your done.
Haha when you went wooooooo taking old pan off I knew right then an there a oil bath just happened 😂😂 hey it happens more than not, great work Mike, that's nice no major components need to be takin off to get the pan down, thanks for sharing an I look forward to seeing the next video 💪🇺🇲🤙✊👌
NICE! What a great video intro! The BEST looking 'dump truck' used to put ALL sorts of stuff IN IT - NEVER - 'On IT'! Guess I'll watch the video now!
Boss man… it must be a relief to find the pan was clean?
When I was a kid, motor oil was not nearly as good as what we have today. It broke down much faster under heat and didn’t have the Mulit-viscosity characteristics. If an engine went 100k miles, you were lucky.
My dad kept a pencil magnet in his tool box. When he dropped a pan or opened a small gas engine block. He stuck the magnet into a rubber glove and fished around to find metal flakes.
He used kerosene to rinse the pans and sprayed it into the bottom of the block to remove all of the gunk. That was a messy job but one that he believed added life to the engine.
It had to be done often because the gaskets were made of cork. It got hard and brittle. And, the rubber used in the seals was all natural… it broke down too.
There are so many technological improvements in automobiles that have increased their engine life. But, in my opinion, none attributed more than improved oil and seals!
You did a great job filming and explaining this. Thanks for taking the time and putting in the effort!
Hey Mike, great piece of mind doing it yourself. Then you know it’s done 💯% right. Last owner did well by you, and a testament that oil that is made today is way better than the old days. I imagine you’ll be off to the races pretty quick here. Good luck
The best truck motor made as far as I'm concerned. Thanks for the content.
Good to hear thanks.. I'm going to be putting a PDI Big Boss Exhaust manifold on it soon
Love you Dirt Boss!!!! Keep up the great work and videos.
Also, love seeing all the work your doing at the Aldis project!!! Great going on that job!!!
You had me laughing so damn hard on this one Mike.
Wires get caught and Mike tells those wires, "Get off my boys". ROFLMAO
Even with the oil bath still easier then a 6.7 Cummins. I had that joy this past winter. Gotta lift the engine to clear the crossmember. Nicely done.
awesome job nicer then a 7.3 oil pan good job Mike
Thats a difficult job! Any job dealing with oil is always going to be unpleasant. Nice ah nice👍👍
Nice sounding Cummins in the K-Whopper! nice truck!
Thanks bro I know how much more of a pain in the ass it is to film this
Nasty job for one guy.
Sorry bro, I laughed my butt off when you dumped that oil on yourself! I've done the same thing to myself numerous times.😁😁
Lol
Excellent 👍
Nice work- oil baths are going for the skin!
Do luv the shine on that chrome. ❤ and to think she ain’t garaged either..
Nice job 😎 lit suggestion add one more gal of oil as you remember that lit bath on the other side of your pan has room for exact one more gal of oil good luck and thank you for a video :)
Wow what a job
I saw that oil hit you well before you felt it. I was yelling at you to let you know but, I guess you didn’t hear me 😆
😂
The Boss knows!
Good job Mike. An extra set of hands would’ve been really handy on that job but I’m glad you installed a new oil pan instead. It’s a better piece of mind. When are you going to build a shop?
Hopefully sooner than later
@@DIRT-BOSS I hope so too. You definitely can justify one
I like to punch a hole in the bottom of the oil filter. Let it drain out. No chance of dropping it and making a mess when it’s empty. 👍🏻
Great job Boss 👍🏻🇺🇸
Pretty cool thank you, 👋👌👍
D-Boss! How’d that oil look after you fired it up? Diesel oil changes leave me unsatisfied…great video as usual!
ehhh, did it last time in winter, -30c, night, on side of service road with flashlight......i remember a lot of swearing :D but hey, two years later aint leaking....
Good job db👌👌
As usual Great Job 🍺🍺🍺
Back on site!!! Kind of lol
Well done, Mike on dirty jobs couldn't do better. Might have been the 📷 but when you were checking for leaks, front driver side, rear of spring, looked like 3rd spring back have was bouncing up and down with the truck running. Maybe my eyes but you might want to look at it. Stay safe.
Thanks ill check it out in A.M.
Hey Boss. Nice job worth getting dirty and the pride in tackling the job yourself knowing it's done right and no wait. If you were out working, all your pay that day will go to someone else. Been there.
Exactly I will always work on my stuff so I know the job was done right, faster, and save money
Nice mess Mike, not your style. Nice job getting this done and explaining your way through it!! Back on the road!! Great work Mike 💪👍🇺🇸
Awesome effort! You got the job done! Do you deliver crusher run to Raymertown? Got a 1/4 mile road to resurface.
Sure email me

Nice a nice 💪💪
Ohh, I hate dirty trucks LOL steam cleaner is a mechanics best friend, better than the mrs LOL
I had an oil pan go porous on me a few years ago. I tried repainting the outside with the appropriate paint and sealer but it was too far gone. It was like a sieve in the end, those oil pans take a beating over winter under a vehicle. Would that new pan not need painting, Mike?
thats a job dang, you will sleep good tonight , i bet 👍👍👍
I allways take out the screw for the back is 1 gallon there
One way to get the pan up is to take your socks off and put the bolt in your toes and screw it in😅😅
Thank you on videos like this of YOU actually Showing while Doing the job (many so far) - and like I've said B4 'CANDIDLY'! QUESTION IS: How do you do the work and get such detailed VIDEO at the same time as you speak? To whom do we give credit? Listen, all these steps you show mean a big deal - THANKS!
I don't know I feel like you guys are sitting there staring at me so I have to talk to you! 😂
Hello sir thanks for video. Could you please share with me the Cummins part number for the oilpan ? Thanks.
I don't have it on hand call your dealer that's how I got it
@@DIRT-BOSS I understand. Here's the thing of it.... I have access to aftermarket truck parts but most of the time they want a dealer part number. Aftermarket is very useful because it's usually way cheaper and comparable in quality
👌👌🤓🤓
A man Pit to change oil and work on the equipment. It hurts when you put a wrench on that truck 😪
😂😅 been there and dumped the tee-shirt. Horrible job on your own.
Lmao
More cummins trash! Never saw that with caterpillar, aluminum pan.
Agreed
