Far western UP winter... the BEST time of year! No mosquitos, no ticks, no black flies... just quiet & calm, pristine snow, brilliant night skies and the occasional Northern Lights... wolf and fox calls at night.
Reminds me of when i was young. My parents had a cabin in Northern Michigan. In the winter, we would park the car about 3/4 mile away from the cabin and hike to the cabin to get the toboggan. Then it was back to the car, load up the toboggan, and haul all our stuff to the cabin. Good Times.
Oh my goodness! A place I would love to visit for sure. There's gotta be a Holiday Inn somewhere! LOL 😂😂 Poppins is a true outdoors partner! Love you guys 💗💗
Poppins is the right kind of wife. She's not afraid to step up. I did this many times living in the U.P. Most of the time, I didn't have a cabin to go to. That's the best way. Froze my butt off a few times, but nowI'm comfy wherever I go.
I've driven in the UP during snowstorm conditions in the middle of the night. I couldn't see the road, but I could make out the tree line and I just stayed in the middle. I passed three cars the entire night once I got north of Mackinac until I got to Marquette. The UP is truly a beautiful and mostly isolated place.
Jen and I went to Copper Harbor last year. Was a beautiful trip there and back. Course, we prefer to go up there in the summer/fall. Thank you for sharing your trip. Was great to see in the winter.
Almost no snow during the 2023-24 winter. I grew up in Laurium and my daughter and her family live off grid a few miles south west of Delaware as the crow flies. She saw a wolf when XC skiing last week. There were 2 sets of tracks.
My son graduated from Tech in 2004. We have a cabin in Bruce Crossing and my son wanted to go to Tech after falling for the UP. Many fond memories of Tech in the Winter, broom ball and winter carnival.
This brings back memories, me and my family owned 200 acres in the Hiawatha forest in the UP back in the sixties and seventies, spent many winters there and loved every minute
Holy crow does that bring me back. I was born and raised in Hancock and the ride you took on the way up was almost emotional. Hope to move back to the U.P. soon. Been around that area several times growing up. Thanks so much for sharing. God Bless you two.
