Enjoy watching your videos! The majority of my flying was in the early 1980's when I was in the Air Force. I do miss the old planes like the Boeing 727, 707 and Douglas DC 8's. And the fact that most flights always included a meal. But admittedly, flying today is also safer than ever! Keep up the good work!
I grew up in ATL and you should have seen the late 60s-early 70s. I'd pester my Dad to go to the airport to plane-watch - the Delta fleet was crazy! Still had prop planes (Convair 3/440 family) in the old livery - still had the Convair 880 with the "speed king" crown - DC8s - 747s - DC10s - L1011s - just about everything. I only saw the Delta 747 once, but it absolutely floored me! my first sight of one.
Fantastic video! I had just been reading on the 717 that went off the taxiway last night at PIT when your video notification came up, so I knew I had to watch it. Keep up the good work!
The 717s will be around for a while - they are relatively new, and Delta historically saves money by having an older fleet. They are scheduled for retirement by 2025. The 777s were retired by covid. Delta wanted to buy 777x next-gen 777s, but Boeing in its corporate idiocy couldn't guarantee timely delivery, so they opted for the A350.
Awesome video. But I’m very glad you were wrong about the 717 retirements 😁 I’m from the UK but tomorrow I’ll get to have my second ever 717 flight from DTW to GSP. Can’t wait. Last time I was in the last row without a window 😂
Delta has a lot of A320’s that are older than the 717’s...Some people seems to think the 717 was built in the 1980s.. The first one flew in 1997 and the last one built was in 2006.
Flew an MD-88 from PHL to ATL and then 717-200 back up to Pittsburgh in Jan 2020. Music to my ears both flights love the power and loud engines on these mad dogs. The flight to ATL from PHL would be my last time I flew on an MD-88 before they retired them during the Pandemic.

I love and miss the B717-200s
Well, lo and behold, it is currently October 2023, and the B717s are still going strong with Delta, with more and more having been brought out of storage and back into service over the last year. I think I read that they now plan to continue using them until 2028 or so. We still get the 717s here at my hometown airport of MDT (Harrisburg), and they are used heavily on routes from ATL to smaller cities and some midsize cities. However, service from ATL to larger midsized cities, like PIT, have mostly been upgauged to 737s, 319s, 320s, 321s, and the like.
@@ianpilkington2037 I know. I have heard of people feel iffy about going through that tunnel but felt astonishment once they saw the beautiful skyline. I would definitely love to experience going through the Fort Pitt Tunnel. Pittsburgh has been deemed as the only city with an entrance.

Sadly I never got a chance to fly the mad dogs or this “mad pup” and I probably won’t be able to fly the 717 before it will retire which will most likely be very soon :(. Cant wait to see what aircraft is next though!
While I don't expect to fly a 717 anytime soon,as for your ear pain, reminds me of a flight on a TWA 727-200 long ago IAH-STL where the pressurization at altitude went wonky, pilot was trying to explain the issue and wham! it happened again while he was speaking--we descended some thousand feet until the system decided to behave,no further issues thankfully--Pittsburgh is someplace I'd like to revisit since my family moved to Texas in the early 70's,we didn't live far from the Squirrel Hill area which I understand to be an upscale neighborhood
Awesome video! I hope to fly on most of the aircrafts that will retire soon, including the delta 717. One more thing I wanted to mention is that from now there’s 3 more days at the earliest till southwest will fly out of o’hare.
Great video! I love the Boeing 717! it's one of the most Iconic airplanes to fly into my home airport. It's going to be a shame when delta retires these.
Curious as why there was an MD-88 without engines at TOC. I thought they were all ferried to BYH after retirement. Unless that one is going to the museum what are their plans for it?
Sorry about the pain when landing, I’ve felt that before and it’s no good! Anyways, I already knew about the MD-88s, MD-90s, 777 retirements but I didn’t know they retired their smallest 737 and are going to retire their smallest CRJ, that’s too bad and they’ll be missed!
Another great video as usual. You always know your stuff well and have interesting facts and knowledge. Yesterday, my family and I booked tickets (I booked mine separately) to West Palm Beach, FL from Detroit, MI aboard a Delta B737-900ER so I’m looking forward to flying it. I was wondering what features and amenities are available (I’ll be seated in main cabin)
Despite being the busiest airport on the planet, Atlanta funny enough it's possibly the best layout I've ever seen. And it's also the easiest airport to get around.
