Enjoy watching your videos! The majority of my flying was in the early 1980's when I was in the Air Force. I do miss the old planes like the Boeing 727, 707 and Douglas DC 8's. And the fact that most flights always included a meal. But admittedly, flying today is also safer than ever! Keep up the good work!

I grew up in ATL and you should have seen the late 60s-early 70s. I'd pester my Dad to go to the airport to plane-watch - the Delta fleet was crazy! Still had prop planes (Convair 3/440 family) in the old livery - still had the Convair 880 with the "speed king" crown - DC8s - 747s - DC10s - L1011s - just about everything. I only saw the Delta 747 once, but it absolutely floored me! my first sight of one.

The 717s will be around for a while - they are relatively new, and Delta historically saves money by having an older fleet. They are scheduled for retirement by 2025. The 777s were retired by covid. Delta wanted to buy 777x next-gen 777s, but Boeing in its corporate idiocy couldn't guarantee timely delivery, so they opted for the A350.

Delta has a lot of A320’s that are older than the 717’s...Some people seems to think the 717 was built in the 1980s.. The first one flew in 1997 and the last one built was in 2006.

Flew an MD-88 from PHL to ATL and then 717-200 back up to Pittsburgh in Jan 2020. Music to my ears both flights love the power and loud engines on these mad dogs. The flight to ATL from PHL would be my last time I flew on an MD-88 before they retired them during the Pandemic.

Well, lo and behold, it is currently October 2023, and the B717s are still going strong with Delta, with more and more having been brought out of storage and back into service over the last year. I think I read that they now plan to continue using them until 2028 or so. We still get the 717s here at my hometown airport of MDT (Harrisburg), and they are used heavily on routes from ATL to smaller cities and some midsize cities. However, service from ATL to larger midsized cities, like PIT, have mostly been upgauged to 737s, 319s, 320s, 321s, and the like.

While I don't expect to fly a 717 anytime soon,as for your ear pain, reminds me of a flight on a TWA 727-200 long ago IAH-STL where the pressurization at altitude went wonky, pilot was trying to explain the issue and wham! it happened again while he was speaking--we descended some thousand feet until the system decided to behave,no further issues thankfully--Pittsburgh is someplace I'd like to revisit since my family moved to Texas in the early 70's,we didn't live far from the Squirrel Hill area which I understand to be an upscale neighborhood

wow this is a bizarre for me to watch, for over a decade i exclusively flew w/ Delta twice a year from Hawaii to NewYork to see my mama, i do not enjoy flying however Delta made it doable. i am disabled/elderly & travel w/ my medical alert service dog, MY DOG was the unofficial Delta mascot, everyone knew & loved her, she has flown 1st class twice courtesy of Delta upgrading us when we had extenuating health issues, MY DOG was given her own Delta Wings Pin from the Caption, one year when we arrived in Atlanta (after a direct from Honolulu) the Caption let me & MY DOG come up in the cockpit, the copilot got out of his seat & let MY DOG hop up on his chair ...at which point the Caption was smiling ear to ear and said "i think this may be the ONLY dog that has ever been in a Delta Airlines cockpit" WE LOVE DELTA! we flew the exact same flight for over a decade thus we got to know a lot of the Delta staff, who all greeted up literally w/ hugs/kisses...well my mom died Jan 2020 thus i will never fly again and i am thrilled! but seeing this video pop up was kinda wild for me what a huge flashback to our traveling days as we ALWAYS flew thru Atlanta...omg the caption talking before take off, wow this is so weird...so HAPPY i never have to fly again esp because i am anti-masker (i have had breathing issues since 2008) oh the sound of the engines...really this is overwhelming me...i miss my mom! wow i keep typing/listening then i look & then i type...omg taxing on the runway in Atlanta way before they put in all those ridicules inside pet relief stations (what a joke, even though they put in the pet relief they still ALWAYS took us outside) Delta used to pick us up at the gate we arrived at we would then be greeted by Ms. Toni Sutten she drove the vans for the ppl w/ service dogs to take them in our own private van thru the runways to the end of landing strip in a big grassy area where she could run around relieve herself etc (truth be known i have medical marijuana & i used to bring a couple of doobes w/ me & i always used this time for a smoke break ) after about 20-30 minutes we would then be driven to our departing gate...WE LOVE DELTA! yep i learned early on that UNITED SUCKED! way before they DRAGGED the doctor off, American also is rotten! believe me i know as i traveled w/ service dog & Delta was the only airline that treated us w/ LOVE/RESPECT...yep never traveled w/ anyone but Delta! wow i kinda miss it...but happy never have to fly again..somehow i needed this...thanks for posting...happy travel to you! if you ever see Ms. Toni Sutten plz give her a hug from me tell her its from Ms. Fox she will know i am a phtographer here & I am know as the dolphin lady i have many photos of dolphins and blowing up volcano i made/sell greeting cards, i often gave them to folks as tips ( i would offer ppl choice of $$$ or greeting cards ppl ALWAYS took the greeting cards Ms. Toni has a bunch of them hanging in her house & would tell me how everyone she knew, knew about Ms. Fox, oh i love Ms. Toni we did become friends, god bless her...well Mr. jazzyguy thanks again...wow that was so much part of my life for over a decade
