Very good job. As I have builded a mini plotter and see how all setup works I can say I liked very much.I will order the mising items and will build one like yours. The most important is that easy to build and I have most of the things.P.x. the stepper motors I have are the pm55l.
The only thing I would like to ask for now is how do you atached the stepper motors with the screw rods?If can you upload a closer photo?Thank you and I will be back with more questions.Pol

      Hi Pol.
I tried several aproaches for the stepper-rod joint, but finally i am usig a rigid 3dprinted coupler.
I will do a review of the las changes on the cnc, by now i uploaded a picture of the coupler:
      diyercorner.blogspot.com/2017/11/simple-diy-cnc-version-2.html
If you cannot access a 3d printer my second choice perhaps would be a flexible coupler. You can find cheap in ebay or other places.
I didn't like this flexible couplers because in my case the rod is not fixed in the other side, so stepper must keep the rod in place.
But if the rod is fixed to the bearing in the other side maybe a flexible coupler is the best option.
I first tried something like this: www.thingiverse.com/thing:9326
Is what you can see in other video: ua-cam.com/video/MVcCbdGZtcI/v-deo.html
But it didn't last too long, i had lot of problems with this solution.

This video deserves way more views. Nice work with the tools you have. Congratulations!

Where do i have to connect te probe?? i am using an Arduino CNC shield and grbl 1.1

    • @arcachofo

If you are using last grbl version probe is connected to A5 and GND.

I am going to checkout this leveling tool! Tell me please, is it obvious, in the final carving, that the vgroove goes down in one direction instead of always toward the center of the pipe?

Depends on the curvature of the surface, also angle and depth of the groove i think.
In this case it is not very noticeable, only if you have a close look you can see it.
This method is specially useful for uneven surfaces, don't need to be curved, just something that is not perfectly flat.

arcachofo , thanks! Yeah "flat" (well, mostly flat) surfaces that I vgroove would benefit. It is amazing how much 0.1mm difference in depth is noticeable when vcarving. I subbed!

@@arcachofo two years later, I finally tried installing bcnc, but realized my cnc's xp machine isn't connected to internet so I can't update all the required python libraries. On another machine, the python libraries weren't working/install problem. Oh well. Is bcnc ever going to just be a .exe (that'll work on xp?) (It looks like github removed all the exe that even just run on win10).
Python is such a pain from a user's perspective.

Really cool, I am wanting to try this on my machine currently i am just using universal gcode and cncxpro logic board, not sure if the xpro is compatible with these but keen to explore. have you got any more detail on the probe that you used ? is it just a normal non latching switch on the end or a special type. keen to see what else you come up with , thanks

      Hi..
The probe is just a push button taken from a burnt arduino board (reset button), but any push switch can be used i think. This is normally open, but you can use NC too, just change settings in bCNC.

HA! I wondered about that probe too. Great and simple idea, a pushbutton!! I'll be stealing your idea, thanks.

Is that piece of paper or is the spindle holder cast from concrete? :-)

Lol.. spindle holder was MDF some time ago.
