The one you did a few years back and I copied is still working really well, I have all the parts ready to make another one, portable 100ah is very handy, I take it camping or charge it at home with a portable solar panel! Thanks again from Aussieland!
Thanks for sharing! Made many of these over the years and having a main breaker between battery and fuse block is something I've add in each build. That way I can cut power to the battery no matter what is going on. Lots of options and I never stop tweaking. If you've never done one of these builds before, I highly encourage you do. It's one of the best ways to learn IMO.
Good video. @3:23 I would suggest using the female XT60 since it is for power source output so you do not have exposed male pins that are sitting real close to each other and can be shorted out if piece of conductor gets between the male pin, I know it is protected with 20A fuse.
Thanks Bud for the feedback. I thought about this as well, but that 3d printed port only supported the male xt60, I'll look for a different option next time
I recommend the usb c port be output and input because that would make this a homerun. I think it is amazing to be able to charge a 12v battery using a 5v usb port!!!
a good way to repurpose those batteries you tore down :) i was really interested in the one you put together and it's price back then was very attractive, however i didn't build it, i waited and got a power station and am enjoying it instead.
Thanks P M! I actually tore down the battery for this project, I reviewed this battery awhile back (without a teardown) and I didn't have a specific use for it. Putting it in this case was a great option for my friend and his camping adventures :)
Hey Jason, I'm not sure what "friend" you were referring to but it sure sounded like you were talking about me. I'm so glad you did this video build. It's exactly what I needed to build two more similar to my discontinued Battery Hookup builds. Just one question... Can I use the RadioB Tech Smart BMS instead of the BMS that is built in with the battery?
So how would you charge this battery? I did see the 12v output but don't you think maybe two inputs would be helpful. One solar and the other one a wall charger?
You can connect a charger to any of the output ports. It's like a car battery, charging happens on the main terminals and any connection the the main terminals will charge. My friend will use the XT60 port to charge it up.
I noticed you had a 2.0 version with the connectors including powerpole on top, nice job. I've found all the 12V adapter with locking are way to loose for most plugs, not a fan.
Love this project build! Great idea Jason and very well done! Now, if I could only figure out a similar smallish design with an integrated 500-600w pure sine wave inverter on switch for one AC output it would be perfect. I suppose I could just MacGyver it and mount the AC inverter on the outside of the box. LOL
@@Jasonoid We got to test out that new pecron pv300 300 watt portable solar panel, That is a nice [product, Have you had the chance to see that yet? We pulled 704 watts on the first test we did (long video online but we gave you a shout out for sleeping in the truck video) GREAT PRODUCT !!!!!
They have another cheap 100ah battery that has low charging protection. I'm not exactly sure if it will fit into the box, but the cases look the same so I'd hope it would. It's only a little bit more money: ua-cam.com/video/dd1W8_tdl2c/v-deo.html
With an appropriately sized box one could fit two of these batteries in series to make an affordable 24 volt portable battery. It would be rather heavy I suspect.
Nice build video! You can tell you spent a lot of time putting your design together and it looks super clean. I moved away from NMC after one of my 12v fridge batteries exploded from a charging malfunction while camping. I'm LFP all the way now, it does add a little bit of weight but it's not horrible. Thanks for watching!
To charge it, will your friend put, say, 14v into the cigarette lighter outlet or the XT-60 connection, or will he open the case and put clamps somewhere?
I assume you replaced the original wire leads of the 12V socket with 12 awg ones? Because the socket you linked to doesn't seem to have 12 awg leads. Also, is 6 awg enough for the kind of current this battery is capable of putting out? I know that you probably won't be pulling more than 20 Amps but still.
You can use any battery charger, just connect it up to the positive and negative leads. My friend will be using the XT60 port with a custom adapter to charge the battery with something like this: amzn.to/3kEUqXn
Its the 200w VCUtech panel, you can see it in this comparison video: ua-cam.com/video/Nfll_AwnVZc/v-deo.html Its a great budget option and puts out good power.
Hello I have a question. Can i parallel two deferent brand of lifepo4 100 amp battery for example 100 amp Timeusb brand with 100 amp Redodo brand . Thank you
If the batteries are the same capacity (100ah), you can connect them in parallel just fine. You'll want to make sure they are fully charged before connecting them together.
you just need wires connected to the main terminals that can support a higher amperage (larger gauge wires). For example, if you want to pull 30 amps, you'll need 10 awg wires.
Please respond who can help. We're out of light again. There is no way to even charge the flashlight and sit without light. The gas boiler does not start without light. It's cold. It's hard with money in Ukraine to buy such a device. Please help. Please help. If there is an opportunity to donate to my family. We will be grateful to you. Excuse us for such a request.
Cool build! Using the cell pack from a cheap 12v battery is a smart way to go. I like how compact that build is too - super useful little battery.
I love just bringing this battery pack along with me while camping. TONS of power in this little case.
Some of the most practical builds can be found on this channel - glad to see you that you continue to add this type of content.
Thanks Paul, these types of projects are the most fun! :)

You know I'm here for this! Love a good DIY walkthrough. Really great updates here, Jason!
I built two 100ah battery boxes with those cells from your original video. Thanks for finding replacements!
These fit perfectly and are reasonably priced!
This is so much more affordable! You make it seem so easy thanks Jason 👍🏼
Just take these builds one step at a time, it's not too hard :)
Love watching you do these types of builds man! Thanks for sharing!!
Great idea!!! I'm going to give this a try since I have most of these items except the battery.
Thank you!!
Its pretty fast coming together, enjoy the project!
Thank you so much for doing this!!! These new battery boxes are huge and bigger than they need to be. Ive been looking for this guide

New to the DIY Power Banks. How can you get away from a dc-dc MPPT charger and solar input manager?
So you are wanting to have a more simple setup and you'd like to move away from MPPT chargers and such?

You can use any 12v LFP bms that you want, this battery comes with a plain Jane 100amp model. You'll just need to make sure you can fit it in the box.
Thanks for the quick reply, ordering two right now. Steve

Would it be ok to just put a lifepo4 battery into a battery box without taking the cells out from the original box?

You could always try using those new micro 12v LFP batteries.

Amazon, all the product links are in the video description so someone can find most of the same parts to build theirs.

Correct, I used 12awg silicone wire from Amazon and higher quality terminals so that it could handle the full 20 amps.
Could you suggest a method to heat the battery ?
This website will give you some ideas for heating the battery:
oemheaters.com/category/982/12v-and-24v-silicone-rubber-heaters
Probably just a small thermally activated heating pad? They use those on the internally heated batteries, so you probably can do that yourself.

Nice but tell your friend to buy the DR prepare with the battery hub built in.
You're limited to 100w charging and only 10amps output on that HUB (unless you want to use the main terminals).
@Jasonoid - Solar Power, Batteries, and More! yes but what a nice bundle and no work needed

Too many commercials
I can't change the 'mid-roll' commercials on videos under 8 minutes long, that's youtubes choice unfortunately.
