The cringe level and awkward situations are priceless in this season. David Brent tries his best to be a likeable boss who is everyones friend and falls flat every time. The interactions between the staff members is fun and Tim and Dawn's parts go together really well to make a cracking series. Josh, also the watch back ability of this show is there as it is subtly layered. You literally pick up stuff you may have missed by rewatching,
David Brent is also playing up to camera - the constant little looks etc He knows he's going to be on TV and wants to come across as the "funny boss". In the US office, they ignore the camera crew.
Honest question, how is "couloured's" different from "people of colour"? I don't agree with either of them, but somehow the latter is acceptable. Makes zero sense to me.
@@jimbojones8208 I think "coloureds" was associated with a racial catergorization - i.e mixed race - in South Africa during apartheid which is probably why it got bad rep.
@@jimbojones8208 there was a time when it sounded racist to say 'a black man', so people said 'a coloured man' and since then it's basically flipped back. So in a weird way, Gareth was kinda right there, at least if this was filmed maybe 10 years earlier lol. My nan's generation say coloured because they were taught that was the most PC way.
It's still considered totally fine and PC to call a black person black. POC and BIPOC, like BAME in the UK, is an attempt to basically say 'people whose background isn't White British and/or Irish'.
i love how david pretends hes throwing the article written about him in the bin, then gently and carefully places it on top of the waste paper bin so he can fish it out later hahaha. love the video dude, keep em coming.
The BMC joke is also interesting as they all misunderstand it. The joke doesn’t center around the idea that it’s true, but statue queen is such a racist and is so I to oral that she gets the answer just from those questions. They were still right that it was inappropriate
Yeah I would say smug and arrogant. I also feel like Neil wasnt too different from David in wanting to be liked by his staff. The only difference is he didn't overstep and seemed to be respected more by his staff
Neil isn’t in Finchy’s league when it comes to unpleasantness, but I always get a feint underlying sense that he enjoys David’s discomfort and putting him in his place.
The last episode with Dawn: I thought it was clear she was disappointed in Tim not following his goals and starting to turn in David with his phrases like “vis-a-vis” and “pie”. If you watch the way Tim talks in that moment, everything he says sounds like David Brent is saying it. That’s what Dawn doesn’t like. She can see him becoming the next David in that moment. And that’s what flows into this episode.
@@SanxBile Usually he does, but in that moment he’s explaining himself seriously to not look like a hypocrite. Dawn even tests him, laughing in disbelief “pie”, but he doesn’t laugh back.
That "song" that they were "singing" right at the being was actually a hit single in the UK charts, around the late 1970's I think. It was called 'Ma Nah Ma Nah', (I think) !!!
Season 2 has a different feel to season 1. Brent is still incompetent, obsessed with being “popular” (as opposed to Michael Scott who was more interested in having people like him), insensitive and with ridiculous double standards, but here we see him totally spiral out of control and be unable to deal with his new situation
I’m a new subscriber and loving these reactions, I love that you really seem to enjoy yourself 😄 (I binge watched a load of your League of Gentlemen vids first) The people in the office not laughing at Brent’s joke is a bit of an exaggeration and a bit unfair on Brent. I mean, they weren’t hilarious jokes but neither are Neil’s, I guess it’s all about the delivery and how likeable the person is who’s telling it. It’s just done like that to further illustrate Brent’s awkwardness vs Neil’s cool demeanour. The Harry Enfield “Only me!” was very well known here in the 90s/00s, they’re just being quite harsh in not politely laughing at his terrible impression 😅
Go back and watch all his vids. He's a great reactor! I recommend Frankenstein's labs, Sebs Duran, and King Boomer for great comedy reactions too. Best laughs on YT no doubt! Awesome US movies is a great reactor too. Obv it's movies, but this 40y/o man is like an excitable kid!
Furthermore, how could you ASK “What are they doing”?! Are you serious?!? It’s an OBVIOUS Sesame Street reference , late 1960’s, 1970’s kids KNOW THAT music in their SLEEP! Muhnamunhaa!
Tim ends the first episode of this series just like how ended the last episode of series one - getting embarrassed by Lee. Senior Sales Rep and a jacket changed nothing.
Though people who aren't from the UK &/or not familiar with the English sense of humour get many of the jokes it can be difficult at times to pick up on the more nuanced aspects humour in the word play, the personalities & relationships.
To be fair.. Tim was treated appropriately at the end of the clip, the boyfriend walked in on him flirting heavily with his girl & all he needed to do was move him away to make his point. No violence necessary, dominance asserted & Tim knew he was in the wrong.
Uh, that was assault. And doing it at work, in the office means the sack. Granted, some of the raunchy things they do in the office would also warrant some form of discipline.
Whoever advised you on dawn is SOO wrong! Dawn has a dream. Of becoming an illustrator. Tim leaving to pursue his dream of studying psychology was impressive to her. If he can do it, she can. Or at the very least she could liver vicariously through him But when Tim chose to stay 1) it kinda reiterates that no, youre stuck in this dead end job forever 2) he began talking LIKE DAVID BRENT 'the pie' 'vis-a-vis' She was disappointed in Tim for losing his nerve. And without Tim there she probably would've left eventually. With him there she'll stay
Can't believe how many people don't realize that Tim talks like David in that one instance as a JOKE. He's not starting to slowly transform into David! 😅 Dawn doesn't find it very amusing though since yeah, he sort of let himself down.
The David Brent Cringeometer is already reaching critical levels in this episode as he lurches between awful unfunny 'stand-up' and piss poor impressions,to some low level racist "humour" and totally misreads the room 😬
Always thought the lady boss comes across as most unintentionally racist. She says the joke is bad because it's saying "black people should be proud their only achievement in life is having oversized genitalia". Well that's not what the joke is saying, or implying, at all - but that's the thought that immediately jumped in her head when she heard the joke.
This episode is so beautifully painful! Josh you have the best sense of humour man
And a great accompanying laugh!
