Lemeki and I met on a Film Fiji producer's course in Suva. Then a friend, Vama, and I decided to help another Producer 'Avian Sharma' with his short horror film in Ba. Lemeki was playing the evil being. I brought my cameras, lighting and sound equipment and operated the main camera. Vama operated the main LED light. Then Avian and Lemeki came down to Naboutini Village on the Coral Coast a few times to edit the horror movie on my fast computer. I said to Lemeki on the second trip - stay a while. Then on Naboutini [nearby village] day [a kava celebration among other things] I stayed back and wrote '3 wishes' which is now Episode 1. The next day we rounded up Lukia. I checked to see how yellow his eyes were [from grog celebration] and he looked okay. So we grabbed him and put him in the truck and filmed '3 wishes'. From the opening second I could see that Lemeki was going to kill it. Then Lemeki said we should call the show 'Ratu Na Veli'. The Veli in Fijian folklore was captured by a villager on Beqa Island also in Serua. The Veli gave the man a wish in order that he be let go. The villager asked to be able to walk on fire. That was the start of fire walking on Beqa Island. So it was fitting and we changed the name and made it into a series. So its funny to me to put Lemeki in funny situations and he always kills it. Now we have a few episodes to put out before we have to film again - but we also have an 80 minute script for a full feature called 'Ratu Na Veli and the Rock of Wisdom' - more of a drama - and covered the length and breadth of Viti levu, particularly the mountains ranges of the interior. But we also have many new episodes of the series to film! It's hard to decide which one to do next, but there is one Episode that we absolutely need to film next! It combines the Veli story with another well known story mythology. Anyway - thanks for your support!
@@NewFossilFiji Incredible process! I'd read about the Veli across some articles + papers but have yet to hear it from the mouths of elders. Finding this was just my luck. Keen for upcoming projects from you guys. Vinaka vakalevu for bringing this story to life in a humorous way :)
