    I totally love the sandpipers I'm with you on that my favorite shorebird I call him Tweety birds and I love the way they can run so damn fast. And yes that was it. See those are sea urchins. Some people eat them. I've never tried them

    You're about to hate me. I went Saltwater fishing for the first time the weekend before labor day. I hired a beach guide to "show me the ropes". No pompano that morning, but got a permit. First time ever saltwater fishing. He told me they were rare, but man... You tried for 5 years before catching one. I feel your pain.

    I see you like Penn spinning reels, since you seem to do a lot of bait fishing, you should look into getting the Penn live liner series (or another brand), it has two separate drag systems, one you set up for waiting for a bite, when you get a bite, flip the lever or just start reeling, and switch to the fighting drag, set so you don't usually have to tighten the drag, unless you get a hit from a much bigger fish than expected. Other brands include the original Shimano bait runner, as well as Tsunami, Daiwa and Okuma. I have three different ones excluding the Shimano and Daiwa ones. Don't use any other style for most bait fishing!!!

    • @fishingthemidsouth
      @fishingthemidsouth Рік тому +1

      I looked into those reels while doing my research. I won't speak for Justin, but I am hard on my equipment, and you have to get up to the slammer series for the live liner to be fully sealed. The information I found online is that rear drag is just something else to break and adds additional complexity. What I've landed on is counting the number of half turns on the reel to get from fighting drag to sand spike drag. When I get a hit, I just crank that number of half turns. Usually seems to be about 2 half turns.

      I only fish saltwater, I've had the Penn for almost 4 years and the Tsunami and Okuma for about 9 or 10; years, and haven't had any problems, I just rinse them in fresh water after use. The Tsunami is a smaller size, great for even slot redfish. The Penn is larger, with up to 30# drag, the Okuma is in between

    • @JustinReedFishing
      @JustinReedFishing  Рік тому

      I have looked into them before and just never pulled the trigger. I've heard mixed reviews on the drag failing but I'm sure that comes down to how well the gear is maintained.

    • @JustinReedFishing
      @JustinReedFishing  Рік тому

      @fishingthemidsouth I'm pretty hard on my gear too and saw the same info regarding the drag. I think I need to start adding a 2nd half turn when adjusting my drag haha.

    Hey from Destin! Congrats on the Permit Duo! Are you still catching sand fleas in the surf?

    • @JustinReedFishing
      @JustinReedFishing  Рік тому

      Appreciate it! Yes I am still finding sandfleas. I scoop the lip in the water to find them.

  • @bob7320
    @bob7320 Рік тому +1

    This is awesome... I fished Destin during my vacation with fish bites and shrimp but looks like based on your videos and other creators sand fleas is the best.
    So does your setup not use any weights?

    • @JustinReedFishing
      @JustinReedFishing  Рік тому

      I have good luck with shrimp and fishbites too. Best to have several baits at all times and once you find out what the fish want to eat use that. During the Fall I had a lot of days that Sandfleas were what they wanted though.
      I use 3 and 4oz weights.

    I’ve used owner hooks on the recommendations of tons of UA-cam fishing channels but I’ve never had so many hooks literally break in half as I have owner brand hooks! Everyone I watch swears by them but they’ve cost me several fish! Is there maybe a bad batch of them out there or something?

    • @JustinReedFishing
      @JustinReedFishing  Рік тому

      You must have gotten a bad batch. I've been using them for years and have only had one break out of all of them. Only had a couple straighten out too. I've caught bull reds on the #6 mutu lights.

    You're catching baby permit. If you want to do a real video, get in touch with me. I'll put you on top of a number in Naples where you can get 20 30 lb permit. Get out there at first light before the other boats show up with dollar blue crabs big boys

    • @JustinReedFishing
      @JustinReedFishing  9 місяців тому

      I'd love to catch a nice size one! We don't get the big ones here in the Panhandle area and it's not a common catch so 2 baby Permit was exciting for me haha. I might be in that area visiting family this summer so I'll keep this in mind.
