The accident occurred when Mihir's speeding BMW rammed into the couple's two-wheeler in Worli, Mumbai.
Mihir was arrested late on 9th July 2024 after a two-day search by the Mumbai Police. He was hiding at a resort in Shahapur with his mother, sisters, girlfriend, and friends, who were all also arrested for helping him hide.

1. Bar Involvement: Mihir partied at Juhu’s Global Tapas Bar before the accident. The bar owner claimed Mihir only consumed food and Red Bulls. The bar was sealed by the Excise Department, and illegal construction was demolished by the BMC.
2. Arrest Details: The police tracked Mihir's location through his friend's phone signal in Virar. Mihir had changed his appearance by cutting his hair and trimming his beard to avoid detection.
3. Confession: During interrogation, Mihir confessed to driving the BMW during the accident. He admitted he knew Kaveri was stuck under the car but ignored signals from other drivers, fearing arrest.
4. Court Proceedings: Mihir was presented in Dadar Court on 11th July 2024. The police mentioned his confession and his attempt to mislead them by changing his appearance. The court ordered Mihir to remain in police custody until 16th July 2024 for further investigation.
5. Victim’s Family: Kaveri’s husband Pradip and daughter Amruta are demanding the death penalty for Mihir, questioning why he hid if he hadn’t consumed alcohol or drugs.
6. Political Actions: Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde removed Rajesh Shah from his position as Shiv Sena’s Deputy Leader. CM Shinde also announced a ₹10 lakh financial aid to the victim’s family and assured that everyone involved in the accident would face the law.
