- In this sit down with founder of Lululemon Chip Wilson, Patrick Bet-David discusses his new book Little Black Stretchy Pants and the good and bad stories on the journey to create the yoga-inspired athletic apparel company for women and men.
Order Little Black Stretchy Pants amzn.to/2CShFF4 - This is a book about ordinary people who took an opportunity to be creative, to be innovative, and to maximize their potential.
Chip Wilson’s part in this story comes from the learnings of thousands of mistakes. He set the culture, business model, quality platform, people development program and then got out of the way. Lululemon’s exponential growth, culture, and brand strength has few peers and it is because of those who employees who choose to be great. This book is also about missed opportunity - five years of missed opportunity. Chip was playing to win, while the directors of the company he founded were playing not to lose. Starting Nov 27th, the paperback will be available in bookstores across the country.

I love this material that Lululemon has it's great for workouts I love rollerblading great interview Patrick thank you
Great interviewer!
It would be great if you could add this interview to Valuetainment Español. A serious fan of Pat’s ideas and points of view or most of them.
How Patrick manages to interview so many incredible people is a testament to his awareness of greatness.

It’s a testament to his sincere kindness and sincerity, a sense of culture.
Indeed!
This guy dropped so many jewels! One of your best interviews Pat.
A
What jewels jumped out at you most? I really liked the "if you see something expressed 3 times, it will become big!"
Agree 100% what an insightful hour. I had to look it up, Under Armor was founded in 1996, the guy Kevin Plank started creating and selling products in the years prior. Right at the same timeframe as Chip was making his transition from Surf/Skate to Yoga. I think Plank has about $2.5B net worth today.
You said it all

These videos are free?! Amazing content. Vision and predicting trends has to be the most understated rule of life
From an information/entertainment standpoint this really is by far the best time to be alive!
boy that was pure fireeeeeee. oh my gosh. he actually expelled the real side of business behind closed doors. legendary guy
There’s something about this guy, he’s got a good spirit.
Just had an epiphany about Valuetainment. Most viewers probably realize that we are witnessing a personal journey. Most of us realize that Patrick is also asking questions for his own benefit, and for our benefit. This particular video is extremely valuable and has sealed the deal for me as to why I have subbed to this channel. It is an evaluation on how the sausage is made. It is inspiring to me at the moment for two reasons. The first is that Patrick would help us all by providing this content. The second is that how the sausage is made has far fewer views than his mob videos. To me this indicates there are many more day job dreamer/consumers than people making the sausage. Us little guys should not get discouraged.
Best interview. Appreciate all your interviews and this one connected with me stronger. 1. His perspective 2. quantifying human behavior for employee performance.
Got the book. Looking into Landmark Forum. Thanks Patrick!

*SUCCESSFULL PEOPLE DON'T BECOME THAT WAY OVERNIGHT.* *WHAT MOST PEOPLE SEE AT A GLANCE-WEALTH, A GREAT CAREER, PURPOSE-IS THE RESULT OF HARD WORK AND HUSTLE OVER TIME.* *I PRAY THAT ANYONE WHO READS THIS WILL BE SUCCESSFUL IN LIFE..*.
You're right ma,,
that's why I have to start forex trading 2months ago, now am making constant profit from it ..
Natural, there’s a lot of math involved in forex trading,,
but this is often presented in forms of daunting technical charts, indicators, patterns..
Trading systems allow you to limit the factor of emotional influence on decision-making,,
Chip is such a gem of a person, and that's why he is so successful. He is spot on about creative people in an organization, they are rare and often attacked by majority of their teammates. It is sad how corporate america has gone downhill.
This is a huge issue...
People will sell they momma in corporate America
I watched this interview twice, and it goes by so fast. Really enjoyed it.
Amongst the best”PodcDast” or conversational dialogs that I’ve been able to learn from. Appreciate you PBD you Always pushing creativity!!
Great content Pat!! Who’s watching in 2021
Pat is teaching me how to listen to people. I'm 54 and just learning how to listen to people. Pat has mastered this skill.
Easily among your top best interviews with a noteworthy industry leader that I've watched, Pat. Thank you for doing what you do to help us all get to know these great minds! I loved his insights into business partnerships/finding a counterpart to balance your traits, always love a good reading recommendations list, and I was inspired by his perspective of what it's like to be a creative visionary leader and how we have to create the time to be our space cadet selves, even as all the technicals are carried out to achieve the goals. I will definitely download his book! Would surely love a signed copy, thank you! -JD Schein.
This is one of those interviews that I save in a private list that I share with my inner circle and I often go back to and review.
Full of golden nuggets and powerful takeaways that can be immediately implemented. That is one aspect I appreciated about this interview.
Oftentimes, I watch interviews where the concepts are either abstract or lead back to 20 different places to do research about, then I need to put the pieces together to come up, hopefully, with the right answer, strategy.
This was on point and easy to digest. Thank you, Pat.
1m soon Patrick :D
Thanks for everything.
✔
3m soon
1. Will learn about marketing
2. Will learn about culture
3. Will learn about vision
Then any other book or video from these conversation . I bet every body no UA-cam programe like Patric bet david (valuetainment ) has . Every startup should watch these before they going to start any kind of business . Thank you so much Patric bet david for being who you are today .I have read almost 50 books then I saw these video and it summarizes all . Unbelievable .
Man I love both of these guys content!! They inspire me to create my own vision!!!!
I counted myself blessed when I discovered your channel,it has helped me so much am watching almost all your enterpreneurs interviews you had. Thanks so much am from Zambia
I love Patrick's questions and how respectfully he places the question, asks very important questions and gets a lot of inside information which very few people are capable of.
i loved the creativity question, that how to strike a balance between creativity and logic, excellent ! and a brilliant calm humble personality of the Ceo, so refreshing to see a grounded thoughtful decent Ceo
Chip is a real character! Amazing how he can spot trends
"I couldn't prove the future, and it's so easy for metric people to prove the past.". Chip Wilson
That sunk real deep!
This is going on my lunch - to watch list. Good job PBD and team 👍
chip is a real entrepreneur, take notes
Im totally taking notes
Man I like this guy!!!
Not only is he a Salesman, he’s a great visionary and creative person!
Just hear his thoughts, predictions, reasoning, etc! Dope! 😎
Thanks for this interview!
This is probably one of the best interviews I’ve ever seen! I just finished reading the book and it was amazing!! I’ve always love Lulu and it was really interesting to learn more about the story and the founder behind the brand.
Did you hear the books he recommended, I can’t really hear what he is saying on the second book.
Could you tell us the name of the book? Thanks
@@armandoc6675 the book is called little black stretchy pants
Half way through. Without a doubt, One of the best business interviews I've heard! Thank you!
Class is in session...Thanks a lot Mr. Bet-David...talk of people who made me start my Business, finance and law channel....From Kenya with love!
Love it. See you at the first LIVE Valuetainment conference.
Race to 1,000,000!!! Talked to Chief.. He said this is it Pat
The first thing he said resonated with me instantly. Everything that comes out of my imagination and comes into the real world I'm instantly im happy with it and want to improve it. You are gold.
*I felt like everything that came out of this gentleman's mouth was life changing.*
*I wasn't expecting to finish this video, but now I might have to play it a second time.*
This is one of the best business interviews I’ve ever heard. Such good back and fourth. I love this and learned a ton
This is such an interesting real life scenario of a founder holding the position of capacitor within an organization. Of course the current will want to avert the redirection if given the option.
Fantastic example of economic inductance and capacitance vs resistance. TY PBD, you're quickly becoming my favorite channel.
What an incredible model for older founders to learn from. Great stuff PBD.
One of the few great hosts that asks important questions and allows the guest to speak, learned a significant amount from this. Cheers to Pat and Chip
FIRE👂👏 He represents so much of the creative side of all of us who has been compromised or muted by the fallacies of the metric people.
Thank you Patrick for being so good at getting down to the crux of what we All want to know, everytime.
Amazing interview, as an inexperienced business owner I found this very informative. Thank you.
Work not to inspire your generation but to leave a legacy for future ones... I got this. Thanks PBD❤❤❤
Love the way you interview Patrick. Model of real excellence and preparation. Love the future/present focus of the interview. Fascinating stuff where you begin to consider the power of creativity in business. Keep up the work. 1 million subs on the way :)
Love these interviews recently Patrick.. you are killing it! You are a great interviewer! Awesome channel!
If this video taught me one thing it's if people focus on your pants they're probably not focused enough on the right thing. #Focus
His book is a must read. Great insights into the ups and downs on the journey to become a billionaire
Phenomenal interview. Phenomenal guest. Just a plain phenomenal program. Well done, the phenomenal, Patrick. 😊
Dude. 24:31 I'm already thinking: Do I really want to IPO? One way or another my baby is not getting lost in the numbers. Also, already added 3 books to my buy list. I love that he referenced Good To Great by Jim Collins (and team). I absoultely agree that a level 5 must train some to become better than them. I've been saying it since before I was even aware of the multi-leveled leadership diagram: my goal with any cook is to train them to eventually be better than me. Though I also said "it's not going to happen because I'll never let you get better than me, but I'll never steer you wrong on purpose and I will teach you everything I know if you're willing to listen." As Chef Damon "Fish" Woods always said "Homes, I'm going to keep talking to you, but here's the thing; all I can do is drop gems, its up to you to pick them up."
Exactly
Holy shit I cried when this man said something like, if an artist is happy with their work, then they are not an artist 🤯🥹😭🤯 thank you very much Mr. Bet-David for letting me hear this!!!
This interview is a goldmine!!
One of the best I have seen...
Awesome founder. Brilliant insight. Thoroughly enjoyed watching this, and I watched the whole thing.
Thanks Pat!! After following you for the past few months, I got super motivated to learn from other people!! I plan to start my podcast in the next couple of months 🔥🔥❤️
I resonate with Chips mindset and creative feeling ; explaining the future to those who look at metrics from the past because I know it’s a feeling of where it will go and at times it’s like pulling teeth as I’m launching a tourism leisure business in this opportune times. No place to get creative then a world crisis .
Wonderful interview . It aged like fine wine .
Almost there! Thank you so much Patrick!
I would disagree about creatives being unhappy. I know many creatives that are happy that does not come from being completely happy about their creations. The result are not what gives them happiness rather its the energy of going through the process and efforts of creating something. So the act of creating gives more happiness rather then the results of the creation itself. Once something is created you move it out of your mind and move on to working on the next creation or project.
Great interview and lot of great insights to be learned from it!
The best first ever. Really resonated with me.
Nearly 1 million Pat 💪
holy crap! returning to a just-filmed video to play it thru to take notes yourself; PBD, you just gave me a new learning technique/habit. TOTAL VALUE RIGHT THERE!
THANK YOU YET AGAIN!
Awesome interview pat! I learnt how to be a better leader, keep trying even when you fail and how a creative mind thinks! Keep up the good work!
Cheers!
Chris 22 coming from the army
One of your best! Big takeaways:
1. Protect your creative people
2. Everybody wins, love what you do
3. Logic proves the past, ignores the future
4. Board chooses CEO to make leaders, then finds his replacement. Investors value stability
Thats crazy becasue when I hear something 2-3 times I know the universe is sending me a message. And I pounce on it.
Yeah I found this particularly interesting. It sounds kind of hokey pokey but I think it makes sense empirically. If something new shows up in 3 different places within a short amount of time then it must be movement building.
Pat we appreciate you, you are such a fantastic interviewer and really pull so much insight from your guest... so interesting thank you!
Chip´s website was not included as a link. Integrity. Love the interview
What was the 5th book?! 1. Good to great by collins 2. phycology of achievement by Brian Tracy 3. the landmark forum 4. habits of highly effective people. 5. Did he say "the Goal" or "the Goat" by Rosenblatt? Can't find that one.
i appriciate your time and the great values of both of you. learning new things from you everyday pat. much love
I love the quality of Lululemon. I've tried multiple other big name brands for fitness and general athletic gear, and Lulu takes the cake just about every time. I gotta tell it like it is.
When Chip was speaking about creative people, he reminded me of Jobs. Greate interview Pat
A very interesting interview with Chip Wilson. Pat, you know how to conduct a great on-camera interview. Thank you for suggesting it to us. We appreciate all of your work that you share with us.
hey patrick your a good reader of people, you even know how to dress accordingly depending on who your interviewing,i love strategies and mind chess moves, keep motivating and educating my guy! thumbs up
Pat you're almost at 1 Million Subs. When is the conference dude...cant wait!!!!!
You can tell that this is a real legit successful entrepreneur. Not like Uncle G or any other guru marketers that are out there.
Thanks for the short Portugal reference. I'm a portuguese living in Portugal very big fan of your content. Thanks for sharing that much value.
Been a fan for years and somehow missed this. Glad I went back and was rewatching videos. Thanks pat
I like this guy, so calm, thoughtful and unfazed about whats being discussed. Gonna watch this a few times :) Thanks for the video @Valuetaiment.
I like the creative vs metric dichotomy. He comes at entrepreneurialism and corp America from a diff all-encompassing holistic perspective.
One word. Priceless. Thanks Patrick and Chip
Thank you for inventing yoga pants.
Great insight.
I miss the surf skate clothing as I am a big guy myself 6 foot 2 and grew up in the 90s wearing high quality skate and surf branded clothes. I ordered some new tshirts from a surf shop a few months ago and they all came thin fit and I had to send them back. I can't find any thick jumpers any longer and most of the clothes are low quality for men now. I went to Singapore and visited the billlabong shop and found some men size tshirt, i bought 20 of them.
I’m here through research for my own goals. I guess I’m on the right track
amazing interview. this guy knows business
This was an amazing watch and actually made me feel much better seeing some of my own personality traits in him it really put things in perspective.
This video is 2+ years old but the information is still useful. always quality content here.
Thank you for the referral on today’s Monday motivation video. Definitely worth the watch. 💎💎💎
What a great interview. Intelligent questions and intelligent answers. Not enough of these in business media.
Interesting dialogue about creatives vs. metrics (performance) based people. Agree about the tension between the two. A couple strategies we employ to "meet in the middle" is 1) thorough consumer & market research on the creatives' ideas to vet and validate them and 2) test before fully rolling out. To add --- the consumer should really drive the ideas that the creatives then use to innovate which, in turn, should drive positive results....because you gave the customer what they asked for! :)
Thank you very much for this awesome content! Learned more here than in business school, shows you how much the education system needs to be revamped.
I really like this video, Chip and Patrik have shared so much great information on how to look at things.
I love this episode. This 100% speaks to me and how I look at what is my business going to look like in the future
Great interview. I will be showing this to my 10th grade social studies class for our unit in the industrial revolution. I have them make their own businesses!
This man is Neo in the matrix he sees the world beyond numbers
Thanks for providing this content
this interveiwer is awesome!!! Thank you
Patrick this was a good interview, I see his perspective. You can conquer someone by stepping on their head or you can be inclusive and bring someone and you up a level.
Almost one million subs. Keep your word Pat. 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾💪🏾
Geez, I’ve been watching back and forth for 3 hours. Learned a lot.
Convenience and practicality is what will sell and evolving technology is what will make that happen
priceless to hear advice from experienced entrepreneurs and their mistakes, so you have a chance not to make the same. Thank u for sharing!
Amazing interview! For me it is by by far the most educational interview so far on this channel. Thank you both for providing such a great content!
I also did the Landmark Forum (and the entire Curriculum for Living). Agree that it is absolutely transformational across all areas. Highly highly recommend!
I’m already liking this man. He is into swimming! Cold water gives you such energy.
I also did the Landmark forum and grew up in the surf industry. Great interview!
You're a great interviewer Pat. Arguably the best!
Wow this is definitely one of the best interviews - top 10 that I have seen in my life! Chip just taught me more than I learnt in 4 years at business school 😂 as always excellent questions Patrick. Phenomenal questions! Thank you 🙏🏼
love how proud chip is at pointing out how they killed jeans . i dislike jeans :)
This is a great interview! I learned a lot :) I’m going to share it with other people
Wow Pat. One of your best interviews yet. Thanks for this. You're killing it by the way.
