Max Buller Probably so they see the name QANTAS and the slogan Spirit of Australia and other detailing. Also it would be difficult to actually see the name QANTAS, which could also be a reason why they didn't add the name on the belly of the plane.
Weight has to be considered too remember. This amount of extra paint already adds a lot on to the aircraft and there is only so much it can take. I don't know the specifics of it, maybe they could've still painted the whole plane fine but that's not my call to make.
