I hadn’t posted for ages and I wanted to give myself a challenge to try and write, record and edit a video in 1 month. It’s a little D.I.Y but I made this to help me with a current series I’m writing. If there are any things you think you could add to it please let me know in the comments below. How To Write A Manga One-Shot
This is a video of deconstructing three mangas: One Piece, Naruto and My Hero Academia. I've attempted to unravel their structures and to create a formula on how to better write a Shonen type One-Shot. Hope you enjoy! 0:00 Intro 0:55 Prologue 5:53 How to introduce your Protagonist 10:27 How to write a Story 12:09 Theme 13:49 Thematic Question 15:11 How to Create a Protagonist 16:01 Internal Obs...
I'm a young 11 year old and im making my own manga while being in 6th grade this video was also good help but Im doing the drawings in paper then tracing them in the digital art app and don't worry my drawings are actually good not exaggerated like most teenagers draw

MASHLE: 'muscle over magic', embodiment Mashle Burndead, thinks he can savely live with gramps, does not know anything about the magic society DEMON SLAYER: 'how far would you go to save your sister', embodiment Kamado Tanjiro, thinks he could keep his sister save, does not know about demon (slayers) You don't need an one-page prologue. Nobody said you need it on page one. Make it exciting for people to get involved.
Omg that one page made me jump on my seat xD didnt expect that

@@OUTRAGE.eX1 wow that’s so awesome to hear! Thanks so much!
I'm gonna write the next One Piece because of this guy, for real. 🔥
Hahaha thanks so much! Once you write it please send it to me, I want to read your manga!
This is a great way to start a one-shot easily, like this a begginer's starter pack imo! (But there are still great ways out there, but this is like the foundation you will need to progress as a begginer!) How can you use it? Just follow it for a *long period* of time, because there's no tutorial that will make a one-shot for you, only if you take the actions. (MANN, YOU HELPED ME A LOT, BLESS YOUU!)
Thanks yeah I agree with everything you say!
top tier analysis, congrats 👏
I was trying to think of panels that caused this reaction in me and there's nothing that will ever top a page from Billy Bat (I won't say it's contents in case you haven't read it). The first half of that manga is probably the best example of this video's contents, one of the biggest page turners I've ever read. I swear your analysis are 1000 IQ stuff. Idk how you manage to spot and break down these storytelling techniques but it's SO helpful. My mangas will owe you one 😭
I read Pluto and 20th Century Boys, I haven't read Billy Bat yet but I need something to read so I'll give it a go :D Oh awesome I'll check it out! I'm so happy that it helped your manga out! I mainly make these to try and gather my own thoughts to help me with my writing haha so it's really cool to hear that it can help your manga! Please send me a link when it's done I'd love to read it!
Thank you my manga might be good

New subscriber here! Your videos are so helpful! Do you have any advice for someone who wants to create a manga but can't personally do the art? I'm a writer, but I can't draw very well.
@@Abilovesbooks I’m glad I could help! Yeah I also can’t draw and use illustrators haha, that’s a great idea for a video! I’ll add that to the list :D
@@sdpad1899 Thanks for responding!
this is so helpful
Thanks so much!
I think, *Hero academia's setup is more brilliant for this writing style than you think* , Let me explain by adding couple of my observations. Theme: Heroism Dramatic Question: Can a Quirkless Person Become a Hero? Answer: Yes! Because Heroes is are define by the qualities someone have, not by strength. If you lay out these qualities, these are; brave in the face danger, reckless, impulsive, ready to help out for a friend in need, fight for justice even for his hater if needed, don't give up easily, Humble, morally good. and of course somebody who says "My body move, before i can think" when it comes to saving someone. ( So, This is the (ending) truth, you characters will reach at the end (this exact answer), Now, to make it a story you just need to start far away from the truth to make the change more dramatic and interesting for the readers, but don't force it, starting with main character knowing and believing the truth while everyone else believes the lie is also a good setup) Character who will explore the question and reach answers : 1, Deku, a quirk less character but all the above mention Hero's qualities, ( He knows the answer, but need external validation) Deku will just a positive change arc with validation as a center, or ( he believes the truth, while everyone else believes the lie arc) He will begin by doubting his future ( will my hard work will be rewarded?, can I become a hero?). ----------------- Then. Will see his inspiration All might and jump on the chance to get the (answer) validation -------- Get's a disappointed answer and Give up on the idea,------ but when his childhood friend get in danger he jump in save him ----- This action will change all might mind, he will make an exception for deku----- "You Can Become a Hero" 2, All might, Mentor character that will reach the truth, regain his spirit for being symbol of peace a little more and then help, Deku reach the truth. Reasoing: it not deku going though the change but All might, as he is the only one who can validate the answer for deku! Cause he is inspiration behind his dream. So, All might will have lie the character believes to Truth arc! So, He will start the story Weak and with limited power-------- He is disillusioned with his hero life------------ then a young kid, get in his way and ask is it possible for someone powerless to become a hero--------------- Remembering his wounds, he wll answer No ( show his wound ) and leaves feeling bad------ later, he Then encounter a situation where a monster has taken a kid hostage, however find himself unable to transform to help ( he is mentally burn out) -------------- Then, with the action of the same powerless boy from earlier, he will be remind what it truly means to be a hero ( its not superpowers but spirit) ----------- get over himself and transform to defeat the monster -------- at the end change his answer just for deku, find him and tell him personally, "You Can Become a Hero" Combines all together, and throw in some side character for more world building and impact, and you have the First Chapter of My Hero Academia. Hopes it helps someone You
Wow I love all of this detail! Yeah that's why I said in the video this is the reason we love stories because everyone can have their own interpretation! :D
This got me to read the manga and i don't even read manga.
Wow that's awesome to hear! It's got some great moments in it! :D
Nice. that's good advice for all writing types this breakdown of unexpected moments and revelations not drawing on too long and not becoming too formulaic and expected. I'll keep that in mind.
Thanks for watching! :D
Thank you! I’ll watch this video again for good use.
Yeah I've used it a lot for my own writing haha
As an aspiring (comic/ manga) writer, this is one of the best videos about comic specific storytelling I’ve ever seen. Wonderful example and break down. Thank you!
Wow!!! Thank you for the amazing comment! I hope to make some more just like : D
superbbbbbb!!!!!!!!!
Video came up in my feed and impressed with the quality from a small channel, keep up the good work!
Thanks so much I glad you liked it! Hopefully more content on the way :D

Bro I read it last weekend and I wasn’t thought it had so much effort in the story and I wanted to stop collecting it but I’ll see the price for the box set!
Yeah I should really buy the boxset in the future! There are some arcs that are a little slow but there are some really great moments in it :D
Great editing on this one man! Really enjoyed the last segment of the vid, the perfect chapter is the one that turns casual viewer into fans. :)
Thanks so much!!! I love that comment! Hahaha
The goat, to someone who’s never engaged in manga content before his certainly has me hooked. Much better editing than so many UA-camrs I’ve seen online delving into other topics.

Absolutely agree…! Very helpful on top of that..! :)

great manga deconstruction. i hope you continue with this kind of videos.
Thanks so much! Yeah I've got loads more ideas for videos :D
ay about your previous videos, i enjoyed the idea, but do you have ideas on how to progress on the plot? how to add said obstacles (mostly arcs as well)
How weird I'm literally uploading a video now on that topic haha that's crazy. This next video will be discussing ways on how to make good opening chapters. My idea was to make a little 3 part series. Video 1 is my first video on how to write a first chapter, this video uploading now video 2 is about how to make good opening chapters and then the 3rd video I'm going to make will be about how to write an arc. Hope you enjoy it!
thanks you
Glad I could help!
Can i request ,about how to make a character ?thank you and Godbless
That's a great suggestion, I'll look into it! Just finishing up the next video.
Hey! Either my next video or the video after that I want to do it on your comment. So I’ll put your comment in the video if that’s cool with you? Haha
@@sdpad1899 sure,it's fine👍
You are awesome man, keep going
Thank you! Next video should be out in a month or two :D
Thank you so much, I wanted to make my first One-Shot and this will help me so much
Awesome I'm glad I could help! :D
To add one point in this, there's no need to force yourself to make oneshot perfect, since oneshots are the way to practise drawing skilks, writting etc. and getting feedback, that's how the famous mangaka's started their journey with creating manga
Yeah agreed! I’m planning to make a video on that topic in the future haha
I hope you keep posting videos, both have such excellent analysis!
Thanks so much! My next one should be out in a few months and I think it's my best video so far :D
This is so good! I'll keep it saved to go back to it. I felt relieved when you said this sort of formula doesn't apply to many stories, because looking at the one I'm making right now it lacks most of these points. I was thinking "I just made a shit first chapter didn't I?" lol
Hahaha no! You didn't make a shit first chapter! Yeah this one is very specific to a Shonen style first chapter haha but there are even different Shonen mangas that don't even follow this one. It's just something I noticed that helped me out. I made another video recently about making another first chapter and instead of looking at internal + external problems it just focuses on plot haha. Good luck on your first chapter! Send me a link once it's finished!
@@sdpad1899it will be some time until it's posted because I want a lot of chapters already done to ensure consistent uploads. I was going fast with the script and made it till chapter 17, but drawing takes LONGGG. Thanks for being interested, it encourages me to keep going lol. Do you have comics of your own posted online?
@@buira9482 I've been making and then scrapping lots of manga chapters. I wanted to make a series but realised how time consuming it would be to do that so instead I'm going to try and make a short collection of one-shots and then start posting them online. I'm currently working on one at the moment. Yeah of course, send me a link once you've completed it! I'll send you a link to mine once It's done :D
