Udayagiri, Dhauli and Sishupalgarh | Ancient Kalinga from Ashoka to Kharavela

Ancient Kalinga revealed in the remains of its greatest protagonists - Emperor Ashoka the Great and King Kharavela.
The slaughter at Dhauli hill brought Kalinga to its knees in 261BC. In the aftermath of death and devastation Emperor Ashoka Maurya of Magadh adopted a Dhamma that impacted centuries of Indian history. He codified this in the Dhauli Rock Inscription. 200 years later Kharavela, ruler of again independent Kalinga rebuilt Kalinga (present day Sisupalgarh) and conducted two succesful campaigns against Ashokas descendants at Magadh. The story of Kharavela is inscribed and sculpted at Udaygiri Caves
