I work in a school, both as a teacher and as a school evaluator. When teaching I use the iPad, and it is a fantastic device, primarily because of airdrop. I use goodnotes to make notes in class, with a projector to display said notes. It all works, etc.
I have also started using the Remarkable PP. I use this to a. make notes in meetings and b. mark essays. Making notes by hand, writing in front of people works far better than having a laptop (which is a barrier to effective rapport building and communication). Additionally I remember more when writing than I do when typing. Might be an age thing. The RPP replaced my moleskine notebooks and it did so seamlessly. The infrastructure and architecture of the rpp cloud support works seamlessly (pretty much like the apple architecture) and the syncing is fantastic. It may seem like a simple thing but it works really well.
What gets me is that these tech companies are missing a real opportunity with schools - specifically with boarding schools. Schools will be all over a low priced e-ink device with syncing, secure architecture and NO browsing/social media possibilities. Why boarding schools? Well, due to safeguarding concerns, students have to hand in devices at bedtime for many reasons. A device without such capability would be a dream.
For classroom note taking, if there was architecture (there may be that I am not aware of) that would allow group sharing of notes, with the ability of students to sync notes to their individual devices and annotate them in real time, would be great. There is nothing quite there yet.

@kitbetts-masters with any of these can you take notes directly on the pdf and save? Just like I would on a real printed copy? Also does the RMPro have a “size advantage” being slightly bigger for a PDF from a professional journal. Often it’s important to have the text and accompanying diagrams visible like on a real page. Debating on waiting for a 13.3” but then would sacrifice color.

reMarkable is a serious notetaker and something of a reader. If you want more than that, you need a Boox or other such device. I keep looking at the reMarkable and while I tell myself, "not yet", I keep coming back to it. Higher resolution for color means more to me than brighter color. I'm really interested in getting an e-ink device mainly for reading and annotating music scores. I would prefer to have a colour option, as I like to use colour annotations. Basically what I need is something that it is easy to load up a whole lot of pdfs onto and to organise them into groups (aka 'playlists' or set lists). Within those groups I need to be able to quickly navigate between the files. While in a document, I need to be able to change pages quickly, and sometimes to flick to a specific page which might not be the next one. The RMPP appeals because of its larger screen, but I have also heard that the page turning is unreliable, and that file organisation is really poor. I'm wondering which device/s you'd recommend for my use case. I haven's seen many videos that cover music reading or organisation of many (hundreds) of pdfs.

    Books tab c Ultra
Bigme s6 for sunlight visible note taking outside with picture taking.
Hi break which I'm trying to use like the s6 but...

It's mainly the phone and the RMPP The others get picked up when they're needed and not necessarily every day. To be fair the Samsung 12-in tablet only gets picked up to read larger format books or watch a video. Or work on an occasional digital puzzle.
The highbreak only goes out when I need GPS along with sunlight visibility.
The s6 only comes out when I'm going to take pictures and notes outside in the sun.
So the things closest to me and that I use most often are the phone and the RMPP.

Kit - I've got both (borrowed from friends). Don't you think that the WRITING FEEL is way better on the Remarkable than Note Air 4C? Feels like pencil on paper with Remarkable and more like feltip pen on the Air 4C. I like the marginal but significant increase in resistance on the Remarkable. BUt I love the flexibility on the Note Air 4C - for all the reasons you mentioned (workflow). ANd I think the size of the Remakable is better too. Wish these two companies would get together and make the ultimate one that brings all the pros of each together. But again, what do you think of the writing feel..

Boox works with both and yeah, I'm the same for work, I have to install Ms company portal, or Azure, or whatever they call it now, I use authenticator on the phone and I can sign in that way. You allow the company permissions like setting security level and ability to brick the device if lost and then you can have separate badged apps for work. I've shown that in a few videos with the Note Air 3 C and Tab Ultra C Pro, so I won't do another one right now, but yeah, it's something that works. 🙂

Scribe Advantages: 1) Faster, no painful loading times, especially in PDFs 2) gorgeous higher resolution display and it's visible, it's more contrasty/sharp 3) front light is more useful than I would like to admit in various lighting conditions and in the evenings, I also love the night mode to invert the colour 4) reading experience is much better as you would expect with highlights collected in 1 place, built in dictionary, etc 5) Better battery life 6) No subscription costs 7) Support for pens with buttons, very handy 8) PDF experience is way better with ability to adjust the contrast 9) Less latency when writing, you can really see the reMarkable lagging by comparison 10) Conveniences like magnetic wake/sleep, sunrise/sunset screen temperature, etc
reMarkable Advantages: 1) More templates 2) Ability to access PDF annotations from other devices 3) Can duplicate/move/delete pages in PDFs (great for writable notebook PDFs) - incredible you cannot do that on a Scribe 4) Layers can be useful 5) Conveniences like quick access drawer and 2/3 finger tap to undo/redo 6) Your PDF notebooks don't have to live in your "book library" like on the Scribe (the kindle software is frustrating like that!) 7) Lasso select tool allows you to rotate even if it's a bit less responsive than on the Scribe 8) Ability to draw straight lines 9) Lack of a backlight (or the limited backlight on the Pro) means there is less gap between the stylus and the writing surface which is noticeably better 10) Keeps your current page on the screen indefinitely even when it's asleep 11) Print to reMarkable is cool to "print" your web page there, but formatting and performance leaves a bit to be desired.12) Pen snaps way better to the side of the device (though the dedicated loop on the Scribe magnetic case is great).
Both have convert hand written text on demand (not in the background unfortunately), the reMarkable can do it on the device, the Kindle does it in the cloud BUT it allows keeping your handwritten notes, just makes them full text searchable which is awesome! - Both offer an easy-ish way to load in files, Scribe you just load them into your Kindle app on any device, reMarkable you download the app or browse Google Drive or Dropbox (no sync though).
Both lack full text search across your handwritten notebooks, both don't allow you to create links between pages/notebooks.
It's really difficult to pick one over the other but the reMarkable2 certainly is starting to feel dated with basic things like no sleep/wake when you open/close the cover and the slow performance, at the price they charge for it, it's hard to justify it in 2024 and the colour one has far too many drawbacks in my opinion.

As an e-reader, the Kindle Scribe is fantastic.
What you need to consider, the Kindle 2024 is the exact same hardware as the kindle 2022. I had one and returned it because when annotating and exporting PDFs, it flatten the layer, when viewing the annotated document, the annotation is all pixelated, totally unusable, it’s a toy. You cant really markup kindle books, that was an absolute disappointment, as for your hand written notes, it has the same issue as exporting PDFs. For me it was absolutely useless.
