Its always over 12 inches of run. In this case he has 6 inches of rise for every 12 inches of run. If it had read 5 on the common rafter scale. It would still be over 12 inches of run. Rise is up and down run is horizontal
Using the Blue print for determining any angle or measurement of something built guarantees the part or piece you cut or something you built won't fit. Only uneducated architects and engineers cut measured parts from prints versus measuring what was actually built. Engineers and architects with little or no field experience, ones that don't leave there comfy office, screw up more projects.
A roof pitch is the ratio of 2 non-hypotenuse triangle sides. 12/12 pitch is 45 degrees, or the arc tangent of (1). 6/12 pitch is the arc tangent of (0.5), which is about 26.6 degrees. A roof pitch of 5/12 is nearly 22.5 degrees, so that would come closest to half of 12/12
That’s definitely not the fastest or the easiest. The fastest and easiest is to use an app on your phone, but they are probably two or three other methods that are easy.
Wana know a faster way with no stupid level needed? Put your square at the peak and follow the cut of the fascia. You computer geeks need to stick to what you do best
All these people saying well you can use your cellphone/app to figure out..🤔 What if you don't have a smartphone? What if there's no service where you're at?🥱
Wow, you're able to read 26.57 degrees from that scale, it's truly amazing!
Excellent, concise, correct video. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Where did you pluck 12 from for the 6-12 pitch
Same question. No where on the speed square was 12 indicated
Where do you get the 12 from?
In 12 inches the rise will be 6?
Every 12 inches in it goes 6 in up. It's not rocket science
@@chrislull670 actually, it's used in rocket science, it's called glide slope.
Good tips
Or a compass on your iPhone covert degrees to pitch
If your trying to find the pitch fast your eyeball the square
Is that the true angle or does it have to be subtracted by 90?
@@nirmal6632 Nope, that’s the true angle:)

Dah
How about for a hipped roof when there is no gable?
Thx for your help ❤
Great video 😊
Thanks!
Check out the blueprint

If you don't have a level you can use a string and a rock!
If a 12/12 roof slope is 45°, then why is a 6/12, 26.5° and not 22.5°
A roof pitch is the ratio of 2 non-hypotenuse triangle sides.

6/12 pitch is the arc tangent of (0.5), which is about 26.6 degrees.

@@PanzerRabbit-correct,I just use my digital angle finder, much quicker
2023 everybody has a app
My boss doesn't have a smart phone. Not everyone has them
If you want to get fancy, buy a smart level. Way easier but way more expensive
New square?
"...the square hole"
1 foot level and a tape measure
Bro 6/12 pitch is so steep you’re high
6 12 is perfect not so steep you gotta worry about falling and steep enough to where you aren't hurting your back bending over.
Walkable no problem i can stand on the edges and screw in gutters no problems on shingles it is worse on metals
I use my phone 😅😅😅😅😅but i do know this methods
DO IT FOR A WALL. NO ONE CAN TELL ME WHAT PITCH A WALL HAS.

💯 And it’s about learning a new technique. ‘Smart’ phones aren’t making people smarter!
