I love shotput and it's been really tough on me because I have the discus spin mastered and throw a 150 as a freshman and for shotput with the glide I threw a 39 and hopefully I csn transition to spin and hit over 40s

Should be able to. Discus translate to shotput rotation so it shouldn’t be so difficult

...In my high school shotput in the 70s, is when Brian Oldfield made headlines with his rotational methods. As gliders, our Throws Coach (John Parks UCLA) would say the rotational methods were not yet developed for high school putters thus we stayed with the glide. Al Feuerbach was my stepping stone with this torqued glide technique. I agree with Coach Arete on the fact that achieving "balance" is a key pillar. The other lesson in shotput that could be discussed more often is that shotput (and all the implements) demonstrate that personal incremental improvement equates to personal achievement. Something I fall back on all the time throughout life. Persistence, practice, technique, incremental improvement in normal every day life.

That's exactly how it was back then. Depending on who you talked to, Oldfield was either a maverick or a heretic. But at 63, I still lift and I'm going to get a 12 lb. and start throwing again, this time with the spin. It's not too late until they cart me out to the curb.

Great videos. I listen to them on a regular basis trying to learn to throw. I am a blind paralympic athlete looking to enhance my throwing ability. I can currently the road 31 and 1/2 feet from a stand throw position in the shot put and 170 ft from the same position in The discus. Do you think your chain reaction would work for me as a paralympic athlete? I will be down in Arizona April 1st through the 6th for the desert challenge games.

The a standard for the Olympic team in the shot put is 41 1/2 ft and the a standard for The discus is 142 ft.

Edward Saunders depending on the classification. It does work. Some classes things do change considerably. We will be working with 2 athletes in town for the games.
