    Thanks for the video; it was really informative. I really liked the shot of your friend in New York (the one they wanted to charge you for), not only the lighting, but the composition blew me away.

    great stuff enjoyed the tips and approaches always good to hear thoughs and techniques - And I love the look of the rapidbox line up but here in the UK even the smallest 26 inch with reflector dish, speedlite insert and grid is over $500 which I suspect only pros will pay

    Great video. I just purchased my first Westcott item - Rapidbox and it will be in tomorrow. I'm stoked about using it as I do a lot of Senior sessions as well as family/children portraits. Is there a video that you do that solely focuses on using the rapid box?

      Excited for you to get your hands on it! We have a lot of videos on our channel featuring Rapid Box. We did a recent video on family/children portraits using the Rapid Box: ua-cam.com/video/5bgrdG4mzSs/v-deo.html

    lol... when the guy asked about metering the shot. I am glad you verified the question. It sounded like to me he said "could I meet her she's hot."

    I’m new to flash and found this to be very helpful! I was wondering though when you were talking about increasing or decreasing power after your test shot in TTL mode. How do you achieve this? Where or which buttons do you press to increase or decrease while in TTL mode on the FJ80 and FJ200?

    Great breakdown! Question, I’m about to purchase my first speed light. I want a rapid box as well, 26” or the 36” to start for portrait and some full body shots, for both outdoor and indoor?

    • @WestcottLighting
      @WestcottLighting  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for watching David!! 36” will give you more options for closeup and full body light coverage. 26” is smaller and more portable, but optimized for closeup portraits.

    Before even using flash, what are your settings? Do you set your camera up using the ambient light and then use the flash. I have taken pictures for various organizations with really bad lighting and I'm not sure if I should use the ambient light which usually means a high ISO or bring down the ISO and lose some background.

    • @bgbrandon06
      @bgbrandon06 4 роки тому +1

      Before bringing light to the situation, get your environment looking how you'd like. This means depth of field, how bright/dark you want the environment, etc. Then bring the flash in and light your intended subject.

    Time @ 1 hr 07 sec how did you not wash out the gel back ground light on floor with the main light flash?

    • @bgbrandon06
      @bgbrandon06 4 роки тому +1

      You can do this a couple ways. First, the light from the main light will "fall off" quite quickly and not reach the background if its on a low power like in this example. Second, the background light was on a higher power setting, so even though some of the main light is hitting the background, its getting overpowered by the gelled light due to its closeness to the background and its power setting. I hope this helps!

    How tall should your light stand be when using a modifier? Is there a general rule? For example when you're shooting someone outside in the Metroparks.

    • @WestcottLighting
      @WestcottLighting  2 роки тому

      Typically an 8-10ft light stand will give you a lot of options especially when trying to bring a light above your subject.
      This is our go-to stand for on-location shoots:

      @@WestcottLighting Thank you for the link. I bought a light stand for my first flash last weekend and it only goes to 6.5'. I should've went taller I guess.

    Lapel mic location = lots of amplified swallowing noises
    Maybe move it down a bit away from your throat 😉

    Why do most of the outside photos look fake/photoshoped? Is it too much power/light compared to the background?

    • @WestcottLighting
      @WestcottLighting  3 роки тому

      Exactly, not balancing your flash and ambient light has that effect. We actually made a video about that here: ua-cam.com/video/cwNaK2k6AF4/v-deo.html
