It was an honor to play with you too Ian! This is Trevor, who brought Blue Farm (though they called it Vamp Farm). What a fantastic tournament. You and the rest of the finalists made a big impression on me, and now I'm trying out each of your decklists against my shop's meta.
Congrats on your top 4! This tourney was insane, every game was intense, everyone I played with was on their A-game for sure. I took Sythis to a 1-2-4 record. Pilot skill kept me from 2 wins, which is unfortunate, but I'm grateful to know I have a lot of growing to do as a player. It was nice meeting you too! Hope to see you at the next one
Congratulations on the top 4!!! I adopted this deck from your primer quite some time ago and it is by far the most consistent CEDH deck I have piloted. It has been dubbed “the most resilient deck” in multiple matches!
Congrats on the top 4. Cavern of souls probably names humans in that blue farm list. Helps cast tymna and also gives uncounterable to stuff like ranger captain / abolisher. Also edge cases to call goblin for Dockside. Just a flexible land that honestly a lot of people are sleeping on.
for reference - one of the times that Brian Coval had the Cavern of Souls in hand, they had both Ragavan and Dockside in hand as well, which both happen to be PIRATES!
Really interesting to see so many blue farms had a great game with you 4th round of Swiss and had fun talking to you and just seeing how many people actually showed up a lot of great players congrats once again on top 4 good job Ian keep it up
Congratulations on your Top4! It's also refreshing to see a deck that's mid range and doesn't rely on black. I consider black really powerful due to its tutor access.
Going back and rewatching this now, it's crazy to hear how similar your thoughts on blue far line up to how Coval built and played his list. Certainly shows some common patterns of thought among the people consistently doing well in the top ends of the format
Gotta say thanks, I didn’t realize defiler of dreams reduces malevolent hermits cost in the graveyard too. Adding malevolent hermit in place of something now. Because im playing equilibrium and hullbreaker horror and cloudstone curio anyway. I can get my control pieces onto the board with the backside and then put it back into my hand and put a counterspell back onto the table. Probably cutting skull clamp as I have a fantastic draw engine already.
Happy to see your Dawnwaker Thrasios deck make it to the top 4! I agree that this list is one of the best decks in the format and your work and results show how great it is. Where it's lacking in the black color identity, it makes up in the incredible card quality. I've also had some mixed feelings about [[Vizier of Remedies]] and recently swapped it out with [[Machine God's Effigy]]. So far, I've been reasonably impressed with the result despite the 4MV. It can act as an extra [[Dockside Extortionist]] which immediately taps for mana, combos out with [[Devoted Druid]]. I think the ability to tap for blue mana is also relevant when making infinite mana with Druid. This allows for some flexibility to not worry about Thrasios being in play. I also like that this can ETB has a copy of any creature in the battlefield. I've been seeing a lot cEDH lists neoform into Koma, Cosmos Serpent, Toxrill, the Corrosive, Hullbreaker Horror, or even dropping Consecrated Sphinx and they seem like high ceiling copies that are hard to kill since it's not a creature. Also at most tables you can get yourself a 4MV Tymna to copy. Wanted to hear your thoughts on this guy in place of that "layered" Devoted Druid win line. 👺🧜♂
This is very cool tech, I am extremely interesting in testing it out. Metamorph overperformed for me over the tournament so maybe more clones could open some interesting doors
Red elemntal blast and pyroblast really good "protection" counterspells. Also worth running just to kill all the draw engines- rhystic, mystic, kraum, etc. Would switch Spell snare for pyroblast myself haha
Did you face Jackelope King's Vhal / Noble Heritage brew? I've never seen anyone else play it and they managed to make top 16 with their curious deck. Congrats on top 4 yourself!
Congrats on making Top 4! Can i get your thoughts regarding your decision to remove Vizier, will this be the direction moving forward? How about replacing REB with Aven Mindcensor?
Great question. The short version was that I never was able to effectively utalize it during games. I like either mindcensor or March as the testing slot
This is probably common knowledge, but I was wondering whether or not big events like these are proxy friendly or not. I'm peeking my way into cEDH with a no-proxy deck, but it's taking me quite a long time to build on account of the costs, so basically.. I'm wondering whether it's worth my time to continue buying my cards legitimately, or if I should be proxying some of the crazier ones! Also, I've seen a fair amount of your videos and love watching them. I really like how you go over top 4's and help understand what makes the decks so powerful (:
@@ComedIanMTG thanks for letting me know! I’ll probably continue to slowly build my deck up, then. It’s unlikely I take part in many tournaments, but I want to give myself the option to do so. I appreciate your videos, and your response!
No hard stax lists or winota was interesting to see in top 16. There were plenty of medium hatbear style thrasios piles but other than that no ROL stax decks that I saw. And I'd assume winota got hated out in the Swiss now that people see how amazing it is
Very brief and skipping over the long development of farm decks, but most "Farm" decks accrue value and they were generally Green. This deck is devoid of green and has come to be known as "Blue Farm"
Farm comes from the original farm list where tymna and bruse had a satirical fan fiction written about them. It usually indicates tymna + partner + dorky creatures + ad naus. Blue farm was the kraum variant boasting blue which the Archetype did not originally have
Brother I want to send you a deck list Rograhk and Thrasios, and see what you think of it. I don’t want to put it on edhrec because it’s too powerful to hand out to people imo. I haven’t brought it to tournaments but do play local cedh pods. It’s very similar to a blue farm build. Defiler of dreams and Shrieking drake is my Ad Naus. It’s not really a stax deck but I do run winter orb and static orb with a good amount of instant speed interaction for them. But all of that instant speed interaction is simply incidental. It isn’t designed specifically to interact with those two cards but any artifacts I control, typically making them all rocks. Once I get one of those online all my tokens become so many extra turns ahead of the table that it’s very hard to interact. Galazeth prismari is a favorite of mine because I run 11 total instants and sorcs i almost always have something to play after it hits. I only run 1 counterspell and it’s not one you see often. Sublime epiphany + lifeforce + Douse is my counterspell package. Alongside sigil tracer. I don’t run that many wizards but Thrasios is a wizard alongside sigil tracer. Sublime ephiphany is also great right before your turn on last enemy’s turn to counter their spell and put your own orb back into hand.
Congratulations on your tournament performance! It's funny to hear other content creators mention ComedianMTG or Ian from Comedian and I'm like hey I know him! 🤣 Small request / constructive criticism from an eager subscriber: It would awesome if you could reach out to some of the top 4 finalists to under the deck choices before you post the breakdown! For example I would love to understand the reasoning for including Lavinia or Cavern of Souls. I mean the reasons are obvious as it's printed on card... but what went into the testing for those cards, were there specific match ups that they felt they improved, shifts in meta that justified them etc. I know it's easier said than done and will possibly delay the video. But I think it would be well worth it to include the info from an informed position. Not a slight! Just a humble request.
the old original two color partners need to be banned. Along with kenrith. But the commander's committee do not recognize competitive so golos got banned for doing what he was designed to do....
Sigil tracer is only in 2980 decks. That’s hilarious. Seedborn muse has entered the chat. My opponents rule of law has become fun 🤩 oh your gonna force of will my nyxbloom ancient? 2 mana tap sigil tracer and Thrasios I’ll force of will your force of will. Also very political card. People using removal on your stuff will have to deal with you being able to copy it and reflect it back at them. Making them want to target others. I can win on t1 using Jeska’s will rograhk twinflame and dualcaster. I use to try to win on t1 using Altar of the brood and undead alchemist but I’ve found creature decks like mine to be very far and few. Also it’s a bit harder to do the t1 altar undead alchemist just due to the mana needed let alone needing opponents to have a certain percentage of creatures.

My Tymna & Thrasios PEMMINS POD deck list is very much similar to your deck and the other TnT ... so adaptive and always puts pressure on the game 🔥🔥🔥

Didn't play against it but it looked sweet

Why can I never find results anywhere other than youtube? There aren't results on Monarch's website.
How many players were there?
It's on their discord. There were around 150 players

It depends on which group organizes the tournaments. Some have a small list of playtest cards while others are much more liberal with proxying

Just do it , please!! We were wondering here in Europe, due to the fact we had no meta breakdown.
