Great review sir, I have the OG 1701 and still hoping Playmates do a 1701 refit Voyager and 1701 E Sovereign class star ships. I used to see all of these toys on the shelves while being employed at TRU in "93
Yes several people have said the same thing in previous videos. I wonder what prompted the change? I’m glad for it because of the stands for Voyager and the Defiant.
This brings back memories. Between my brother and me, we had the Enterprise, Romulan Warbird, Vorcha Attack Cruiser, and the shuttle craft Goddard. Wish I sill had them.
I swear when I got mine in 93 it had a stand. As did the generations one and the talk series one from 94. The generations one was the newer combadge and the first and third were normal tng combage base. Meby some had it and some didn't. I never used them. But I played hard with mine. I'm gonna get the new one. I got the tos on sale for 30, I'm hoping I can get the new tng one soon. So jealous of the diamond select d.. Also this new one, I don't see paint on the bottom of the ship, no painted phaser arrays. And I wish the battle sections head had detail.. but its great to see toy companies making good toys like the 90s stuff. Star wars has some great micro machine battle fleet sized stuff with the little 1 inch figures. Which goes with all the trek and wars stuff I have from youth. Goes great with the runabout model due to the size.
As a kid, I had the Enterprise D that transformed into the future version seen in All Good Things. I believe it was Playmates (didn't they have a monopoly on making Trek toys?) because it had an all red deflector dish.
You are absolutely right. Playmates had the license. I’ve seen that ship on eBay and have thought about getting it. I have a lot of stuff already though.
Huh. While the screwholes don't bother me much, (it's a toy that can be displayed, rather than a display model that can be interacted with), the missing ventral phaser array on the saucer makes it a hard nope for me, along with the lack of detail that the older model still had. The lights are great, sure, but I think not enough to offset the obvious corners that were cut during production.
Love this new Enterprise d! Including the light up deflector dish. I was a little kid when the 92' Enterprise d came out and I loved it and played with it and wished it could separate! I have no complaints about this new one. Its not a display model or meant to be screen acurate to the last detail. in the words of Woody from toy story: Its a Toy!! T O Y Toy! Its made of plastic! Its a child's play thing! Lol! But seriously.. lol! But for real i don't care that its not screen accurate or has lots of screws in the bottom, or doesn't have the Aztecing Patterns or the texture. Who knows maybe playmates couldn't find the original molds for mass production of it or the original plans or maybe they just had to recreate it to make it separate. Lots of possibilities. I love the new one as is and when i can ill buy it! ❤❤❤
Why do people always ignore the fact there's literally NO detail on the bottom half of the toy and secondary cobra head section? NO One seems to point out and criticize this part!
The lack of paint can be Easy fix with acrylic paint markers , I did that with mine and looked a lot better sadly the lower phaser array that is another issue
It is the weirdest thing, having that lower phaser array like that. The entire bottom, other than some sticker applications, is a blank slate. Bonkers. I wish I had a steady hand, maybe some day I'll try doing some painting! Couldn't hurt.
SOCCER SECTION! I mean, the Enterprise D is so big and has such a small crew compared to its size, they could easily fit entire soccer pitches in there. They could have a dedicated sports deck with soccer, cricket, ultimate frisbee. Who needs holodecks?
Diamond Select looks like it was molded off the 6 foot model and the Playmates look like they used the 4 foot model. The secondary hulls tell the tale.
What gets me is the sheer LAZINESS on display in the paint apps on this one. I’ll forgive its other flaws, but when you have to bust out the hobby paints to fix the lack of paint apps?
I completely agree. The paint app is the worst I've seen in a Playmates Trek ship. It's disappointing. The lights and the sound are what, frankly, I've been looking for in a budget ship like this. I'm half glad Playmates lost the license before we saw a Voyager and Defiant redone. Those aren't perfect light wise, but their paint and molding are LIGHTYEARS ahead of this 2023 release, which is baffling.
Great review! What is the size comparison between the 2023 Playmates and Diamond Select version? Can you post a pic? We don't quite seem them side by side at 13:45...but really appreciate the comparisons!
It is obvious the 1992 version is far superior to the 2023 version. The Separation Ability of the 2023 version is not a not an improvement. Playmates should have simply used the forms from the 1992 version and just added additional lighting effects and surface details. The Stand on the 2023 version is horrible.
A Joke this model, hope it only coast 20 $. A toy yes but nothing more. The old Art Asylum kit looks waaayy better. Is it really so un easy to make a kit without those huge screholes=? The deflector is not recessed anymore. Well its a childs toy, but even eaglmoss doesnt look god and its 2000$!
It’s like they stopped detailing it halfway through sections

Just ordered mine thanks to your upload! Can't wait to see it. Thanks for the content
I wanna say the Generations tie-in had a stand, though still no saucer separation.

@@mattwest9554 it was a WEIRD stand, too. You slid off the battery door, and the stand had a battery door permanently affixed to it.
great memories. cant wait till i get mine ! great review , thanks.
And the slider battery lid on my 92 Enterprise d never wore out.

The GOLD version of the 92 model (though I think it came out a couple years later), did come with a stand.

There is so much that is wrong with the 2023 version, that it's hilarious when people don't notice the problems.
It’s so bad. I want one but geez.
Thank you for being you.

The phaser ray is missing on the lower side of the soccer section

I’ll post that to the channel tomorrow.
@@mattwest9554 any luck with the comparison shots?
I have the 1992 version
Awesome
Phaser strips missing or not colored in, the impulse engine on the drive section not colored in and just looks cheap.
in this day and age of computers and technology , i expected a bit more detail
Found this in Target for 30 bucks and absolutely could not pass it up
Could of gone a little more and gave us a better detailed cobra head
👍👍
missing half the windows also

Hey !!!!! Don't bash Eaglemoss
I love Eagle Moss models. The majority of their stands are horrid. I can't sneeze near my XL Voyager without it falling out of the stand.

just goes to show you new stuff sucks and old stuff is good
The original is so much better.
I don’t know what I did with my 1992 version)”or my Klingon battleship! 🥲 but I think I’m going out to buy this!
